1927 engine (Sold)
Almost complete 1927 engine with a March 1927 serial number. I purchased this years ago and believe the previous owner rebuilt it but never started it. The oil pan was clean and and it had all new gaskets. I did make a note that it was a .040 over re-ring. I do remember that I also lapped the valves...

Magneto not working
I’ve been able to start on battery and switch to magneto with no issues until today.
I’ve checked all the obvious (to me) places, connections and post. Also took apart the switch and found nothing.
I started this morning and mag was functioning, this afternoon nothing.
What am I missing.
Thanks,
Bob

Thank for the tips. I have a “pikes peak patent pending pedal” for trade towards a R/M pedal if anyone is interested.

I’m in the process of installing Bennett external brakes. I want to include the drum brake but need to adapt the peddle somehow so it has the cam.
Suggestions are appreciated.

Gaskets vs silicone
It has been a while since I’ve posted here, but I can assure you that I always looked and read.
My question is: on a oil pan, should I use a gasket, or would permatex only suffice?
I am tired of making gaskets.

I just finished flushing a radiator off an early Buick. I used a plastic kids pool, a swamp cooler pump and 4 bottles of Preston radiator flush. Lay the radiator in the pool and start with a reverse flush for for a couple days, change directions for a couple more and so on. I had to change water a f...

I soaked these in hot water over a period of several days. Then used a piece of wood and a finger nail to peal off lacquer coating.
It took awhile but the results was worth the effort.

Re: Piston ring seating
Update on progress. I found another set of nos rings that are .010 over. End gaps on old rings in the ring travel area were .035+. I will use a sizing hone to even out the cylinder bore and size the rings for an end gap of around .010. I also received a email from Dan H. who read my post on this sit...

Re: Piston ring seating
I have checked all the great thoughts you all have had. Timing good, valve seating good, spark good, carburetor good. Ring side spacing is between .001 - .003. I have also made an air adapter for plug hole as suggested and at 20 lbs I get blowby. I’ve ordered some replacement cylinder honing shoes, ...

Re: Piston ring seating
I have been unable to get the engine to fire. I believe it’s due to the low compression and blow by not allowing for enough vacuum to draw fuel vapor into cylinders. I’ve also splashed fuel into plug holes, no luck, not even a puff or pop. I’ve rotated the engine for a complete cycle about 50 times....

Piston ring seating
What are options when you can’t get your piston rings to seat? I’ve ball honed cylinders with a 45 degree cross hatch, new iron rings are of proper size and end gaps are good. Cylinder walls are not ovaled. First attempt I only got up to 20 lbs. on all cylinders and even at that I had blowby. Upon d...

Re: Leaking oil pan ear
I tried JB weld on both sides of ear. The leak seems to be coming from the top center somewhere. So, 4 hours later I’ve the pan off and there is no smoking gun, cracks, splits or loose rivets. The only thing that makes sense to me is it’s leaking at the gasket. Nothing obvious. I plan on applying a ...

Re: Leaking oil pan ear
I cleaned area as suggested and believe the leak is between the ear and the pan. There are no visible cracks or seepage on the exterior rivets.
I’m trying to figure out how JB weld would solve the leak.
I would like it to be that simple.

After replacing old valves with modern one piece valves, and reseating, I’ve been able to achieve speeds that I’ve never had before, 45+. After checking to see if I had brass thrust washers, I rebolted axle housing and drive line. How easy should the driveline axle unit turn? It seems to be pretty stiff when I turn it with a large crescent wrench. Should it be almost a free spool?
What could the cause of the stiffness be?
