With a friend cranking hold your hand over the air inlet of the carb. You should get a strong suction.Just pulling the choke might not do so use your hand. Are your spark plugs wet with gas?? If not before you reinstall the plugs put a little gas in each cyl then replace the plugs and try it. :D Bud.

Long ago when i found one in my grand dads barn i asked what it was used for? As told 60 years ago it was to get the timer up and out of all the mud, water, dirt, and snow of the roads of the time. :D Bud. :D

Re: How did they do it?

I wonder if the staged photo was either a adv for tires, tire chains,Ford,or better roads. The well dressed driver looks more like a salesman ? Uncle Sam"s tires from way back were harder than rocks and now some have a way to adjust air pressure on the go.Speaking of on the go,Rich drink more water. :...

I think tall tires of any type tend to step over mud, snow,or ruts rather than plow through.Ever drive a two wheel drive tractor in deep snow and see the front wheels slide rather than roll?? :D Bud.

Re: The Mortgage Lifter; was: "The Ford Cheaper than a Horse"

One cold winter day when we were cleaning out the grandparents house i got the tractor pulling a model T trailer stuck in deep snow.My dad hitched the team and the snow was so deep i had to dig a spot to crank the F-20! The team stepped into the pull and the tractor did not move.My dad backed the te...

Re: The Mortgage Lifter; was: "The Ford Cheaper than a Horse"

Yes no,and none of the above. The teams were largely kept for old times sake long before the 50"s with the advent of semi modern tractors in the 30"s.Often much like horses the steamers often had to sit while their boilers could make more steam to go on.There were steamers that burned straw for the p...

Re: The Mortgage Lifter; was: "The Ford Cheaper than a Horse"

That picture shows not the need for any Ford but the number of horses to do that work.Horses eat hay or pasture and if they are worked a lot of grain! The cost of the barns, hay, grain, horses, harness, and man power sold many crawler tractors and while Ford built the Trackson i think it was much too smal...

Re: Snow, good or bad?

Snow being either good or bad depends on the amount received and when. If the crops are still in the field a little can go along way. When you only get a little and you wonder why the combines are not running,it is because when a slight amount of snow hits the fan it will melt causing ice to freeze o...
