I too enjoy seeing the non Fords. Even at the peak, Fords were never more than half of the cars on the road and its important to see what else was around at the time.

Ford began offering electric headlamps for 1915, two to three years after much of the rest of the industry. Ford's late at adding electric lamps was due in part to many of Ford's customers being farmers and the like that tended to be somewhat conservative and sometimes slow to accept newer technolo...

Yes, that would make them bolts. Probably better to just use bolts next time. Here is a pic of the car cooling in the garage after its test drive. Re: No Spark, No Start Even After Work
The E-timer requires a 4A replaceable fuse at the coil box. It is not in the timer itself. I installed the fuse under my '26 coil box at the power-in terminal. I did not do the installation on this E-Timer and have no idea if the previous owner installed such a fuse. I'm not even sure where to look...

Re: Looking for Wiring Diagram for Non Starter Ignition Switch
Why did Ford provide a BAT terminal on the early cars with magneto only ignition? I see nothing connected to it but there must have been a reason it was installed.

I did the equivalent of this by using a screwdriver to short the plug wire to the cylinder head. Nothing on any of the four wires. Is pulling a plug as you suggest a more certain test? I sure do miss many things about SoCal including the Orange County Model T Club where I have so many good friends a...

Re: No Spark, No Start Even After Work
Did you confirm that the E-timer fuse is not blown? How do I check for this? It seems unlikely that it could have caused the initial issue. I might have blown it trying to find the trouble after the car was not starting by removing the coil box lid but that was later. Blowing a fuse on the second E...

Re: No Spark, No Start Even After Work
Yes, there is power at the BAT post, more than 6v. Before installing the coils in the box I was able to use the meter to check the pathway from the bottom strip through the switch to the MAG & BAT posts. It is an Orange County car and when running was very happy on the backroads of Klamath County. P...

After getting everything on the coil box assembled again, the meter was used to verify connections to the switch from the MAG & BAT posts and each of the high & low tention posts to the copper contacts inside the box. All sweet. With the box installed in the car and the coils in the box it all looke...

No Spark, No Start Even After Work
A couple of weeks ago I posted about a problem I'm having with my T. Its a 1914 Touring with a 1918 motor that has a starter & generator. This car ALWAYS starts until a few weeks ago when I had done a bunch of work & wanted to take a test drive. None of that work had anything to do with the motor, t...

Thanks Jerry for your advice on setting the meter. With it, I was able to test the new coil box bottom and then the switch itself. I'll keep that meter on the workbench to test the coil box build as it goes and then when ready to install test the bottom strip with the BAT & MAG posts as Steve sugges...

Thanks for your help here. The switch is just one part of a general freshening up of the ignition system. A couple of weeks ago I had prepared the '14 Touring for another test drive. I had done all sorts of tinkering and wanted to get another flush through the cooling system. Thanks for that, I had no idea that the rear wheels were made that way. The ones on my car do allow the Rockies but I'm not sure if it is a later large drum or the earlier small drum setup. I would love to see a picture of the Hayes rear wheel to see what was different.

"The tire industry consolidated tire sizes and the clincher tires sizes were back then 30x3, 30x31/2 and 31x4. I had no idea about this. These wheels were on the car when I bought it and I thought it was supposed to look that way. For Paul, i measured the spare Blockley I have, mounted on a standard 23" clincher rim. At 60 lbs pressure, the O?D of the tyre is 31 & 3/8" and the width is 4 & 1/16" Allan from down under. Yes, that's a great suggestion. In this case, the whole rubber stem looks to be broken where it joins the tube. The air hisses out more or less if the stem is bent this way or that. It hardly matters anyway as the whole wheel & tire assembly will soon be a wall hanger.

Yes, the push-pull switch is for the lights and they do still work, I just went into the shop & tried them. I also tried extensive jiggling & switch movements from MAG to BAT & back. This Samson will not be used on a car. I'll hang it up someplace in the garage as a display. The inner tube with a rubber stem is shot so there is nothing lost there. Can a 30 X 3 Tire Be Used on a 30 X 3 1/2 Rim?
As mentioned in the Samson Tire thread, the spare hiding under the very nice tire cover was a Samson. It is a straight 30 X 3 1/2 size, not the EX size. I have in mind getting the car on the road and out to a show in a neighboring town a distance of 30 or so miles away. The '23 has a good spare & I ...
