Re: Will a 1915 Touring w/ top down fit in a 6'x12' enclosed trailer?

- Hey Bob, Thank you for your wise observations. I didn't think about how I would go about "tying down" the front of the car in such a confined space. I did, however, recognize that an enclosed trailer would make stuffing the T full of luggage, wheelchair, walker, cold and warm weather gear, etc for...

Re: Will a 1915 Touring w/ top down fit in a 6'x12' enclosed trailer?

However, in theses smaller enclosed trailers the T's top must be put down to get a touring car inside. Therefore, in order to close the rear ramp-door I would need to det...

Re: Why great cars don't sell?

- I just had a sparkle of a thought. What if we identified ways to positively attract younger Model T enthusiasts and made welcoming this new blood to our club a priority? If successful this might increase demand for Model Ts. I read in the comments above a variety of rational pointing out why the y...

Re: Why great cars don't sell?

I am 59 yeas old, (the younger end of the old guys) I got into Model Ts because in the 1960s and 70s Cliff King, Lee Chase, and Ed Chatfield designed Model T picnics in open grass fields and next to streams where families with young children played Model T games with their fathers and grandfathers. ...

Re: How we rebuild a Ruckstell in Alpine, California

- Both Larry and Norm are correct with the exception that it was Perfecto Co., followed by Glover Ruckstell, who would have designed and produced this under drive, not Henry Ford. Mechanic Norm is dialing in the tolerance on the large bronze washer that replaced the babbitt washer, passenger side of...

Re: How we rebuild a Ruckstell in Alpine, California

In answer to the comment above, two of these photographs show the axles that were removed. In addition to those there is one photograph, the one with the gears now attached, showing the new Lang's axles that are 1/16" longer then original. These are the axles that will soon be installed.

Re: What Parts Should be Pre-Ordered When Replacing an Axle in a Ruckstell?

- Thank you very much for your inquiry. In answer to your question, I really don't know. But it's definitely bent. Larry Smith, my father, and I pulled the wheel and set a gauge next to the axle threads. It wobbles out of line about 3/8 of an inch. My suspicion is that it may have been bent before m...

Is there really such a thing as an "Axle Stretcher"? ... (eliminate wheel shims)

- Hello Fellow Model T-ers, A very generous and knowledgeable gentleman east of San Diego, CA has offered to teach me how to replace the driver's-side rear axle in my Ruckstell rear-end. It has somehow gotten bent causing the wheel to wobble like a drunken sailor on my 1915 Touring fitted with large...

_ In answer to your question, you can see where the crankshaft broke in the first day's pgotographs up near the start of this thread. There's was no bent pan. Although, Erik has a massive solid steel block of a jig to straighten any pan back to factory specifications. Also, no damage whatsoever to t...

Correction: Larry Smith was not "reckless" that day way up in the clouds. Rather, he opting for that ominous 18 degree plunge was a testament to his life long driving experience and to the refined and capable condition of his T.
