Thanks everyone for all the excellent responses. I've been in touch with the tour guide we had, and he said that he's going to stop saying the Henry used Spanish Moss in the Model T.
I love this forum, everyone stays on topic, is earnest, and helpful, it's a pleasure to read.

Spanish Moss
I was recently in Savannah GA, historic district. (which I recommend by the way) and while on a tour, the guide said that Henry used Spanish Moss in his model T's. Later I told the guide that I thought that was unlikely, mainly, I thought, due to the scale of the operation needed. So he did a bit of...

Thanks for the follow up.
The cross member is actually riveted in. It's just the corner angle piece that is bolted in.

Re: 26 27 front spring loose
So, I dropped the spring out. This is what I found. There is no pad. The hole in the frame is whallered out quite a bit. There are 9 leafs in my spring. The washers were there because the nuts were up to the end of the threads. So, I'm still not sure if I have a usable spring mount. So looks like I ...

Re: 26 27 front spring loose
One other clarification: I didn't install the spring. It was the one thing I left as it was. I have no information on the history. I was wondering if the shape of the leaves tells us anything about it's origins? So, the question is how is it to be installed, Do I have the right parts to install it, ...

Re: 26 27 front spring loose
Thanks all for the quick Reponses. I should have said: I have rebuild everything, including the front axle, and all the bushings. Literally the only un-bolt-able thing I didn't touch was this spring. Now with the motor out I'm planning on rebuilding the spring. It's not as rusty as it appears. I'll ...

26 27 front spring loose
The front spring on my 27 T is loose. So loose that effects the steering. I know the motor mount is the correct year, as it has the boss for the front apron, but I'm wondering if it is for a TT, or if the spring is correct for my car? (It's a roadster pickup). With the motor out, and the weight of t...

Re: Wire Wheel Cracked, Repairable?
Update: I did get all my money back, but still have the silly thing! Now I need to think of a good way to incorporate it into a purely decorative purpose. (Table?, clock?, part of a giant Rube Goldberg machine?) Any suggestions on this direction would be most appreciated. As for the surface rust: I ...

Wire Wheel Cracked, Repairable?
I just purchased a wire wheel from Facebook Marketplace. It has surface rust, nothing very deep. It would make a good wheel, expect for one little fact that the seller neglected to disclose. It has a huge crack all the way around, just inside the bolt holes! So, now what do I do with it? I'm thinkin...

Re: Possible source for 26/27 Roadster top irons
Well someone scooped me on those irons.
Also, I placed an order with MACs (just to see if it was real). and it wasn't.
They cancelled the order due to being discontinued.
Thanks all.
If anyone has or knows of set please PM or email me.
It would be much appreciated.

Possible source for 26/27 Roadster top irons
I've been looking for the metal bows for a 26/27Roadster for a number of years. They have proved to be quite hard to find. However, while at Luray this year, I spoke with Mel, of Mel's upholstery. He informed me that he had begun working on making reproduction sets with an iron worker friend. Accord...

Re: Wanted: front axle repair
Mark,
Not at all, that's what it's for. The more the merrier.
The more attention this thread gets the better the chance we all get our axles fixed.
Also, you may want to see my post under parts, for a sevens axle tool.
You may see some useful information or options there.

Wanted: front axle repair
I have a 27 that needs upper and lower king pin inserts on the right side. I don't have the tools, so I would need to buy all that just for one repair. It would suit me better if I could bring the axle somewhere and have it done. I can remove the axle and bring it to a shop within a couple hundred m...

Re: Help identifying Model T pistons, please!
Thanks all for your responses! Attached are the proverbial 2000 words. With regard to bore diameter, I haven't forgot about it. I expect it will be suitable for 20 over pistons. I will check as soon as I get my hands on a 4" mic. (I've got one coming in the mail) I was able to check for taper and th...

Re: Help identifying Model T pistons, please!
I have a similar, but slightly different problem: 4 groove aluminum pistons, with really big ring gaps. Just today I pulled the pistons from a 27 engine that I purchased to replace the tired unit in my 27. It is low mileage, and so the plan was to take it apart, check all the clearances, address any...

roadster pickup holes in cab for turtle back?
I'm looking to buy a roadster pickup. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before buying one. I'm looking for pictures of what this area behind the cab would look like on a roadster pickup that came from the factory as a pickup vs. a roadster with a trunk. I find it easy to think Ford wouldn't bothe...
