Also run a thin coat hanger down the overflow pipe. These get plugged also when someone in the past put "Pellatized" stop leal in the Radiator
Like mentioned above check spark timing and have spark lever half way down when driving . Also check fuel mixture .

A few years back when Martynn Vowell and I were trying to get Derrick Pangs runabout going we used a repopulated version of that to make up for clearance on his warn engine. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the trip Dick. It was great hearing my dad's voice again. So I stole it(downloaded). My dad was so excited to go on that trip and my nephew went on it because I wasn't able to get away from work. He has a video log of the trip he took (my nephew) . Thanks again for posting Dick.

The best thing is to call Birdhaven. They will know. Somehow when my dad was messing with it he lost a wire that carries the charge to the battery and didn’t know that it had a diode in the wire and wouldn’t charge very well. Birdhaven helped me sort it out, this was one of the earlier alternators. ...

How old is the fuel now.
How is the timing.

Coils good and properly adjusted.
Engine might still be tight from rebuilding.

Re: Here I go again .... to OCF
Steve’s on the road again. After a big plate of Biscuits/ Gravy he departed here on his way to JeffCity and beyond. Had a little starting difficulty but my hill came in handy. After a couple of pops and putputs was running on all four as he hurtled up my hill at 9:30 AM. Safe travels Steve and Godsp...

After seeing some of Steve Jelf's assembly pics , his engine is going to fun like a fine Swiss watch and do 50 MPH all day long
I wonder what kind of oil he's going to run.

Re: Could it be the Oil ?!
!0/30 is great for running around town. If doing any long distance runs I'd use 15/40 or 20/50. I used 1/2qt ATF when I was using standard 10/30 and it did help with chattering. I've since switched over to full synthetic 20/50 Z-Rod by Amsoil or Walmart 20/50 4stroke motorcycle full syntec and no ch...

Re: Radiator cleaner recommendation
I've used Cascade dishwasher soap to degrease, Flush with water then an overbite soak with CLR . Rinsed with baking soda to neutralize.s it would also work if very careful not to spill on exterior Rinse again and fill with coolant of your choice. I haven't done this on an all brass radiator. Guess i...

When I was putting on my Rad. I was using new mounting hardware and springs. Turns out the the springs I was supplied were too stiff and long. So I cleaned and reused the old springs .

Re: GOOD NEWS about 10w30 motor oil
I use 20/50 synthetic, Like it a lot, but I don't use the stuff for modern cars. The friction modifiers cause Some T clutches to slip. I use Amsoil Z-Rod or WalMart 4 Stroke Motorcycle full syntec oil. Most motorcycles have wet clutches like the T. Some guys love synthetic blends but mix their own. ...

I used poprivits. I d on't know what they were made out of but sure didn't seem to be aluminum. Put them in a vise and used a hack saw to remove part of the flange to look mote like correct split rivets and filed to smooth out to the cylinder portion of the rivet. Used an old icepick to tease the we...
