Re: 1914 Runaouts
I think the compartment behind the tank was for the side curtians. That way you dont have to get out of the car to get them after its already raining.

Re: replacing touring top
We have installed well over 100 tops over the past 25 years. The dimensions in the model t ford owner book are in fact for the 1915-22 top and are very useful. The 23 and later top is a different and much easier top to get right from a kit due to the fixed bow positions(especially at the windshield)...

Re: Help with ID
The extra bolts into the cowl above the coil box is a dead giveaway that this is a 1917 or later body that has had a 15-16 hood former scabbed onto it. This car has no true 15-16 features and is likely a 17 model that has been back dated to look like a 16 model.

Re: Top Material
Larry, i believe the middle strap was eliminated from the top boots well before 25, thus eliminating the need for the special eyelet in the top. BTW i recall being involved with the release of the new top material with Eric Haartz as well. I supplied Steve Coniff with an nos sample of the material t...

Re: Kevlar band lining sets
The arguement that kevlar cuases drum failure simply does not hold up. I have taken apart over 100 transmissions in the past 25 years and i found many many cracked drums that had only been used with scandanavia or other period lining materials. The fact is that core shifting was very common on these...

Re: Early Roadster Top Irons
This is more complex than just the differences (and there are differences) between model years. The fact is that the six manufacturers of top assemblies that were suppliers to ford in this era did not standardize the the dimensions of the steel portion of the top bow assemblies. The variance was ove...

Re: 1914 Stynoski Runabout
Yes i brass plated any hardware that was brass plated originally. I agree that the top padding has not aged well. Easy to fix. We had it down plenty of times on tours.

Re: 1914 Stynoski Runabout
Looks pretty much like the day i finished it 22 years ago. Must have had pretty good storage. Since completing this car I have also restored a 1909 touring in 2004 and a 1911 touring in 2011 for Stynoski competition along with countless cars for others. I am glad this car has been well cared for. Li...

I have a 27 in my shop to have interior kit installed and it looks like supports and nailing strips are missing in the front and rear backrest areas. Anybody have photos to share of this area? Also pix of unrestored original seats might be nice to see detials of hip panel and backrest area. Thanks s...

Re: 1909-1917 Rim Nuts
All the hex examples seem to have a 1917 patent date on them and the round ones by schroeder are patented 1907 or something really early. Thats why the hex ones are easy to find. They came later. It is my opinion that all examples were nickel plated. I have never found any without some trace of nick...

Re: '19 Centerdoor restore... :)
My 16 coupelet (yes, at one time i owned two of them)was an un molested survivor right down to the green wool headliner and the frame did have the side holes for the 17 style firewall supports as your frame does. They also showed no signs of ever being used. Apparently they started to get the frames...

Re: '19 Centerdoor restore... :)
Don I have admired your work on these wood-intensive cars on this forum for some time. I completed restorations of several late brass era cars myself some years ago. Most recently a 15 coupelet that took herculian efforts of three different woodworking friends to help me complete. I am also a blues ...
