Re: Modern rear axle seals
Could only find 26-40-7 from any local venders. Found these on eBay. They are discontinued. If they work I’ll find another set to have on hand.

The fiber washers I received were .080. I had an older brass one that was .095. This forum has been great. Just looked up how to safety wire the ring gear.

Had to take off less then .005 off the drive shaft bushing using a suggestion from the forum. Glued a piece of emery cloth to a socke...

Pinion Bearing question
I have the drive shaft ready for assembly. Before I do final assembly a question, the bearings sleeve is 3 1/16 but my bearing is only 2 7/8. 3/16 of play on the sleeve is correct. Don’t want to start tightening things up and set end play in not.

Re: Rear axle update
I have new thrust washers. All the old ones were worn down to .085 and scarred. I have a friend who can mill me up a plug for the drilled out rivet. I’ll ordered new rivets tomorrow, thrust washer shims, and a few of small items needed.

Re: Rear axle update
I got the broken drill bit out this morning by slowly drill small holes around it. Would JB weld be strong enough to fill the whole and redrill or should I fill it with my wire feed? Here is the thrust washer they tried to braze to the broken drill bit.

Re: Rear axle update
It should have self destructed. One Babbitt thrust bearing missing. Three thrust washer rivets sheered off. I found what looks like a broken drill bit in one of the rivet holes of another. They had tried to braze and grind smooth the thrust washer to the broken drill bit. Going to be tough to get th...

Anyone have two good outer axel bearings they are willing to sell me? Should be reassembling this weekend. Modern drive shaft bearings are back ordered for a unknown time. Lucking my old bearings still seem in good shape.

Re: Rear axle update
No opinion on outer bearings? It’s still my main question. Should I stick with the solid rollers and just keep checking them For wear or bite the bullet for the sealed ones $$$

Re: Rear axle update
After going through lots of post I’ve decided to add the modern pinion bearing to the shopping list. Adjustable or non adjustable? New u joint going in and a new ball cap. Tail shaft measures 1.549 with very little run out so going with the .010 oversized.

Rear axle update
094DBD8B-723B-410B-AE7C-4132781ADED1.jpeg Clean 105 years of dirt and grease off the rear axle housings today. No wonder my t has been marking her spot. Found this in the right side housing. Should I try to braze or weld it? Was it drill to let out oil so it would get into the emergency brake drum?...

Re: Looking for a little help

Passenger side only had two thrust plates and no washer. After removing axle and before disassemble I recheck...

Re: Looking for a little help
Dodged the first bullet today. As soon as I jacked up the rear axle noticed the first problem. Spokes were all loose on the passenger side. After pulling the wheel found all the bolts loose and none of the nuts were peened Driver side all tight and peened . How tight do I tighten the nuts? End play ...

Re: Looking for a little help
I order the axel book today and I have the Ford Service Manual. I’ve also been doing a lot of forum searching. I did the outer axel bearings and seals two years ago. I’m pretty confident I can tackle this.

The grease helped but there is something binding under load going uphills. I’ll order the Front and Rear axles book tomorrow and pull the rear ended before something goes bad.

Re: Looking for a little help
I’ve been busy with other areas of the T I think I have forgot some simple maintenance. Took five full fills of the large grease cup to get some to squeeze out. When the temp cools down A little this evening I take her out for a run to see if that makes a difference.

Looking for a little help
I’m looking for an experienced T guy in Western MA to take a ride with me in my 15. This has been my only T and have nothing to compare it to. Not sure if the drive train noise is normal or needs my attention. Everything seems to turn fine with out any binding or unusual noise when up on the jack st...
