Re: 1924 Touring top installation

Bumping up my search for help in getting my top replaced. I’ve been in touch with the folks at Classtique - very nice people, but they don’t travel to install tops anymore. I’m <this close> to pulling the trigger on the top kit, but I don’t want to get stuck with no way of installing it. I already h...

Re: How I installed a new muffler

Yes, sorry for the poor photo. The hanger is bolted to the cross bracket. I followed DHort’s suggestions to the letter :-)

I didn’t take the sticker off the tailpipe though :-( Too impatient. I figured it would burn off with time….

Re: How I installed a new muffler

Got it all hooked up this morning. Not visible but I turned the bracket around as advised IMG_4576.jpeg Quite a bit louder than the other muffler I had but it is quite a bit smaller. Not an unpleasant sound at all. Thank you for taking the time to make such a detailed description. It helped a lot! Bob

Re: How I installed a new muffler

Yes I see what you mean - Sounds like a good idea. I wasn’t sure which way it should face. Since I don’t have the tailpipe yet, I wasn’t sure how far it slides onto the muffler outlet.

I should invest in one of those pack nut things too….

Re: How I installed a new muffler

Ok, so I’m putting the FO11 muffler on. No clamp going on between the exhaust pipe and muffler inlet (for flex). The exhaust pipe slides all the way into the muffler with ease.

Tailpipe is on order, should have it tomorrow. Then I’ll clamp that part up.

FO-11 Stanley muffler

Looking to replace my muffler on the 1924 touring. I’ve heard it done that the 9N tractor muffler (Stanley FO-11) is a suitable replacement, and according to the specs it looks like it will work. Anyone who has used one, could they share how they mounted it? I don’t have a welder so other than takin...

Re: Jumping back in after a long hiatus

All of those things were addressed (fresh fuel, sediment bulb, new oil, lubrication of all points, new antifreeze, tire pressures, transmission lint screen, etc) when I got it out of storage. It ran fine on True-fire for several days, and after the timer/coils experiment it still runs great on the T...

Re: Jumping back in after a long hiatus

Thanks for all the replies and great suggestions. I got it to run on the True-Fire this morning. It’s amazing how much better old eyes and brains are with a good night’s sleep :-) Maybe the battery has enough current to run the True-fire, but not enough to run trembler coils at 12v? I see it as bein...

Re: Jumping back in after a long hiatus

The magneto is currently set up to charge a separate 6 volt battery for use with the starter only (with a kit I got several years ago from Fun Projects), so at present I can’t run ignition off of it. It’s a completely different system from the ignition. The mag is strong because I put in fresh magne...

Jumping back in after a long hiatus

Hey everyone, sorry for the long post, but here goes - I’ve owned a Model T (24 touring) now for almost 20 years. Some old timers here may or may not remember me from the old forum. Anyway, about 10 years or so ago my life took a different turn and I put the T into storage. I still maintained it, bu...

Re: Fan knock

Ok, so I got the split pulley on (yes Norm, getting that split pin in was a bit of a trial - I read an old post where you had mentioned that). Finally figured out the tension required and it’s humming just fine. Thanks for all the input guys

Why do you have lock washers stacked up between the hub and the fan blade?
To tell you the truth, I don’t remember why. I did that over 10 years ago and I’m only now starting to get back into it. It probably had something to do with the fan sitting flush against the pulley face.

Re: Fan knock

Thanks for the replies everyone. Crankshaft pully was as loose as a goose so off it came. I looked through my pile o junk and I found a replacement split pulley. I must have bought one years ago and forgot about it. I still have the roll pin too but I can’t find the cap screw. Anyone know the specs ...

Fan knock

Driving the other day I noticed a knock when advancing the spark, so before going on to more complicated things I thought I’d check the easy stuff, and the first thing was the fan. Good news is the knock disappeared after taking it off, so after inspecting the fan pulley I noticed a slight bit of en...

Re: charging 6 volt and 12 volt batteries with generator

Several years ago I changed my 1924 touring to a dual voltage system. For the starter and horn, they remained on the 6 volt battery. The 6 volt current is much kinder to the bendix and ring gear. To charge the 6V battery I got a device from Fun Projects that takes the current from the magneto and se...

Re: 1924 Touring top installation

Thanks for that reply. I’ve been on the fence for years at giving it a go myself, but it just seems too much for me to do. Meanwhile the time passes by. Classtique makes a great kit for sure. They’ve been on my short list. Did you find that their kit was easier to work with? If worse came to worst, ...

1924 Touring top installation

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a source in the Orange County NY area who can install a new top on a 1924 touring. Upholstery is out of my league.

Any leads would be appreciated - thanks!

1924 Touring car top installation

Hello everyone, it’s been many years since I’ve been here.... My ‘24 touring car has been collecting dust for awhile, and I’m thinking about getting her back on the road for the summer. I’d like to get a new top for her, it’s looking kind of ratty. Two questions: Which kit is recommended, and is the...
