Christmas Eve Drive
Merry Christmas! Every evening I use my 1927 Model T to haul milk and farm products the 1/2 mile from my barn to my store. Here is a video from my Christmas Eve run 2024. It was just about freezing and some combination of slush and ice. You can see the elevation of my driveway if you look at the bar...

Re: WTB: Coupe, Depot Hack or Huckster
Not my truck, but located near me in Gladesville, WV 26374. I've seen it in person, but have not looked it over closely. Supposed to be a 27, it has some kind of auxiliary transmission but I don't remember what. I looked at it briefly about 4 years ago, but went with a touring instead. The lady that...

Re: Parts Manufacturer Mark - W in a circle
The same W in a circle is on all the metal gears as well. It doesn’t seem like the same foundry would be doing the cast iron case as well as all the internal gears? Other than that W, the case is the same size and shape as an original Model A transmission. The gears all have the same number of teeth...

Parts Manufacturer Mark - W in a circle
Hi all! This is a long shot as this actually refers to a transmission out of a Model A. But does anyone recognize the manufacturer mark of a W in a circle? [see picture below] I tried the Model A Restorers Club group on Facebook, but so far have come up empty there. My gut tells me the casting for t...

Re: Model T Capabilities on Hills?
I was reminded that I never did make it back to update this thread as promised. So here goes, better late than never! I left off this thread in November 2020. Ernie went through absolutely everything in the rear axle, differential and all, tore it all completely apart, and replaced everything that n...

Re: Impressed with reliability of my 1914
Count me in the daily driver number. I have a ‘27 touring. It’s a mile on gravel roads from my home to the farm store I run. 1000’ of that is my steep driveway, which maxes out at the top with a 23% grade. I use my T every night to deliver goods to the store. I just pile the milk crates on...

Re: Shipping Options for Heavy Parts?
Unhappily the seller decided shipping would be too difficult, but we’re still looking for a transmission so this information may yet be useful. Thanks everyone!

Unhappily Fastenal draws a line and won’t ship east from beyond NM.ModelTWoods wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 5:06 pmOr Fastenal, IF they are doing third party shipping like they did before the Covid pandemic got so bad in 2020 that they discontinued it.
Will take a look at greyhound. Hadn’t thought of that one.

Shipping Options for Heavy Parts?
I wasn’t sure if this better belonged in parts or here, but it’s a general question, so here goes. We’re looking to get 2 cast iron Warfords plus radius rods, torque tube, and drive shaft shipped from AZ to WV. Has anyone shipped heavy parts like this to have advice on how to arrange it? We are full...

Re: Texas T Distributor Problem
Thank you all very much for your thoughts and advice! Just to provide some closure here, we figured it out. It had nothing to do with anything on the T engine or timing gear, it was all in the distributor head itself. And of all the crazy things… Let me start with just a bit of backstory. We bought ...

Texas T Distributor Problem
Here we go again. Why do all the odd things happen to us?? We are now having trouble with our Texas T distributor. We cannot get the rotor to line up with the contact points on the distributor head to spark at the correct time. It wants to spark directly between those contact points unless it spins ...

Re: Odd High Speed Clutch Problem
Clutch discs hanging up on drum lugs? This is it! While I wish it was as easier fix, I suppose at least it is fixable. Ernie says in hind sight those lugs were somewhat chewed up but he thought they were good enough to work. Clearly not. He took the clutch fingers clear out so all we had was low, a...

Re: Odd High Speed Clutch Problem
Anything else I can think of is probably an internal transmission problem. We studied the cam again and can't find any side-to-side slop in it. Nor does it ride close enough to the edge anywhere in its travel to fall off the side. Does it sound likely to you that it's internal? Would you share what...

Odd High Speed Clutch Problem
Hello! Once again I come to the MTFCA gurus for help. We are having an odd problem with our T and would love some fresh thoughts. The car: - 1927 touring, with a 1923 engine. - Fresh rebuild of rear axel and engine. Didn’t fully open up the transmission, but did install new kevlar bands, and the clu...

Re: Model T Capabilities on Hills?
Feel free to reach out. I'm not that far away from you. I think Fairmont is about 25 miles from Independence, but of course in WV, that means at least a 50 minute drive. Finally, someone who understands West Virginia! We’re on the western most edge of Preston, a corner of our farm is actually...

Re: Model T Capabilities on Hills?
Y'all are awesome giving us so many thoughts and so much advice. Thank you all very much! We are pretty much coming down to believing our drive is just too much for our T as is. Between the steepness of our drive, the lack of a run (the steepest part being at the top), the loose gravel where the whe...

Re: Model T Capabilities on Hills?
Thank you everyone for your replies. I certainly hear everyone telling us a ruckstell would be our best option. We can save up for one certainly, but it's just not in the budget right now. In the mean time, we found a 10 tooth pinion and we're hoping that helps just enough for now. I'd say it would ...

Re: Model T Capabilities on Hills?
Thanks for the reply Les. The ruckstell is more expensive than we are able to invest at the moment. The 4:1 or 4.44:1 is a possibility, but Snyder’s said no one makes them now?
We do have a Rocky Mountain brake that came with the car, but hasn’t been installed yet.

Model T Capabilities on Hills? - Edited 2 Years Later With an Update
***Edited November 23, 2022 to update the thread title. Scroll way on down the thread for an update to how our Model T adventure turned out.*** Hi all, My husband Ernie recently acquired his first T. The T’s are his thing - I’m just along for the ride (ha!). He’s not internet savvy, so I’m the one p...
