The cam is so tight in the cylinder cover that I can't jiggle it so off comes the pulley I guess.
Thanks for the input.

Remove cylinder front cover?
Hi all, I'm trying to get the cylinder front cover off my 1914. The manual suggests it comes off after taking out seven bolts but mine seems to hang up on the fan pulley on the crankshaft. There isn't enough play around the camshaft to get the cover off. Does that fan pulley need to come off or am I...

What does a worn low speed cam look like?
Hi all, I am chasing down dragging bands for my new kevlar band install. I know I have some work and need to get the new bands round. You all suggested I check the pedal cams, too. Brake and reverse look pristine. Low speed starts compressing the band around half way to the floor. It seems like ther...

Re: Transmission Racket - Uh Oh
Norm, Just getting back to this project. Like so much of what I undertake, what I thought was the problem is unrelated. I fixed the magneto "problem" by replacing the 50 year old spark plugs with some new $3 jobs from Napa. Not authentic but idles smoothly, runs smoothly at speed. That was easy. Tha...

Re: Get transmission bands round
Yup, it's the slotted kind and I have the old style aluminum cover. What was on the car. Someone thought the new bands were a good idea at the time. I'll just flip them around. Not with the car at the moment but will surely check the cams next in there.

Re: Get transmission bands round
I also have the old style hogshead but have bands with detachable ears. I put the reverse in with the detachable ear to the passenger side otherwise the transmission binds but didn't do that for the other bands as they didn't seem to be bothered in the past with cotton. Maybe that's not the case for...

Re: Get transmission bands round
Thanks for the suggestions. I have been going slow adjusting. I followed the instructions riveting the linings (ends first and push the extra around to get good close contact with the band). Pedal to the floor boards barely does it for low and brake. I didn't know about checking the pedal cams so wi...

Get transmission bands round
I replaced old tired cotton bands with Kevlar. That and new spark plugs fixed a slew of noises and performance but the bands seem draggy - the car creeps and seems to have to work a bit harder than before. I suspect I did a poor job getting the bands perfectly round since I didn't have an old transm...

Re: Transmission Racket - Uh Oh
So after a lot of taking the transmission cover off and putting it back on I established that the noise was not present with the bands out. I relined the bands, reinstalled everything and the noises are gone. I can only assume that even though it wasn't apparent, the old linings had worn badly enoug...

Engine Oiler
I have had the internal oilers installed for many years. To check oil flow I took a bolt out of the forward end of the pan inspection cover with the engine running. There sure was a steady flow of oil coming out when I checked. Didn't do a before and after but it sure looked good after.

More than five miles a year but less than a couple hundred. It was rebuilt in 75, was driven occasionally for a decade and spent a decade on display. Now I drive it to the post office every so often during the summer. :D Corey, I was looking for something like you show. I felt all the screw heads, l...

Re: Transmission Racket - Uh Oh
Interesting - I took the transmission cover off again and don't see anything going on with the magnets. Everything looked normal. I took the bands out and clamped down the cover and there is no rubbing. So it is related to having the bands in the car? They look to be cotton and are 40 years or so in...

Transmission Racket - Uh Oh
Last fall I started the T (1914 Touring, stock, no starter except me) and after idling a minute it sounded like something came loose in the transmission. It sounded like when you put playing cards on your bike to flap on the spokes. I shut it down and could hear some sort of mild abrading when I tur...
