Re: Radiator availability - Black Cars - Aug 2023
Ordered from Ecklers but they sent what appears to be a Model A radiator. They gladly refunded my money but when I went to order a replacement the 2024 price jumped to about $500 higher (had a coupon and 15% military discount that would lost, plus tax will be higher). They couldn't guarantee I would...

Re: Solid rubber tires & felloes
Interesting about the legality. I don't plan on driving on public roads, so may be a moot point, but I wanted to know, I found this in the CA reg's: 27450. When any vehicle is equipped with any solid tire, the solid tire shall have a minimum thickness of resilient rubber as follows: (a) If the width...

Re: Solid rubber tires & felloes
Just wanted to keep it somewhat original, everything else on the truck looks original - pulled from a barn. I don't plan on driving it much. I live on hill, so even after its restored I'll need to buy a trailer and tow it to the flatlands for testing. Engine runs (new gaskets), radiator has leaks, b...

Solid rubber tires & felloes
Model TT, probably 1924, stake-bed, C-cab
Rear wheels are solid rubber, rim is steel. The wood felloes have some dry rot. Can they be replaced when the tire is solid rubber? Spokes too?

Re: High beam vs low beam headlights?
I replaced my 6 volt bulbs with LED's in my TT. They are a lot brighter. These have high and low beam, basically the bulb has an internal 50 ohm resistor on one pin to dim the LED's. Unfortunately the 6 Volt LED bulbs that I used don't have much difference between high and low. The resistor needs to...

Re: 1926 T - Replaced 6V starter and Bendix still Sticking
Sorry Lisa, didn't mean to hijack your forum. My goal was to churn up some information that could be related to the same problem that Lisa (and several others) had. Hadn't seen a Babbitt freezing the Bendix as one of the possibilities. I've learned enough to finish here. Hope Lisa pins down the actu...

Re: 1926 T - Replaced 6V starter and Bendix still Sticking
To answer a couple questions, the hand crank won't turn. The hand brake was in neutral (brake on). I'm now thinking that since the babbit bearing is gone or destroyed, the bendix may have slid into the starter where the bearing belongs and jammed. A bearing, plus oil seal, should keep the Bendix fro...

Re: 1926 T - Replaced 6V starter and Bendix still Sticking
The magneto is fine. The gear was stuck on the flywheel so it didn't move toward the magneto, just the starter shaft. Looking at the magneto voltage with an oscilloscope, I don't see any missing cycles when cranking by hand. Engine speeds up on magneto. From the great rebuild videos on YouTube, look...

Re: 1926 T - Replaced 6V starter and Bendix still Sticking
Have the same issue. What was interesting in my case is that loosening the starter and jogging the truck didn't help (model TT). I beat on the starter too. After removing the Bendix spring and heads, the gear and starter were still both stuck. Starter backed out about 1/4 inch but no further. Had to...
