I don't believe the low/high shift is ever going to be as we expect it. Imagine in a more modern car starting in 1st or 2nd gear, getting up some speed (but not over revving), then dropping it into 4th (direct drive in most modern 4 or 5 speeds). I used the hammer finish Rustoleum in a light grey, not as good the old Hammerite, but they look good. Note that I live in AZ, and don't deal with a lot of water and corrosion.

My '17 touring had a one piece rubber hose when I got it. The hose hung down and rubbed on the throttle or timer linkage. I installed the pipe with the 2 hoses which stays above the linkage.

I've done the foam roller method as shown here by Wayne Jorgenson. It works great, looks good. I've also rattle-canned multiple coats of Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy. Again, works great, looks good. It looks much more, what I would consider, original.

I used 609 on my outer races, and they are fine. However, mine had some resistance to spinning, and I'm sure my smallest feeler gauge (.002" or maybe .0015") would not have fit in the gap. Leave it the way it is! No states make mistakes, therefore they have very poor processes for fixing mistakes. Pursuing this path of having the state change information regarding the car can only lead to heartache and expense.

Another option to consider might be Marine Tex. It was used my GM to repair Vega blocks in the 70s. It was even machinable on block head gasket surfaces. More expensive than JB, less than Belzona.

I run an 8 volt in my '17 with an electric starter. No issues, runs very well. BTW, neither Tractor Supply nor Interstate could get me one. Batteries Plus was about two days out. (the kid at Tractor Supply showed me what he was sure was am 8 volt, explaining that the new type 8 volts only had 3 caps...

I believe that standardized DOT tire codes, including 3 digit dating codes, began in 1971. The current 4 digit dating code began in 2000. Old T tires may be too old for a dating code.

"very warm" sounds like heat, heat equals point of high resistance. That can also mean "highest" resistance relative to the current flow.

I need to do some carb repairs on my '17 touring car, but I'm not able to ID the carb. Hopefully I've attached a picture. I've added an arrow indicating a cap on the top, between the throttle shaft and the needle, that my help in identification.

Personally, I'd choose the bear. I did that same task last summer. I could mount the tires with just the tubes, but not with the flaps....until, I used the big ties straps just like you've got pictured. They made all the difference in the world.

Thank you for the replies. I did watch a youtube about mounting with zip ties. I can see where that may help keep the tire closed, and the flap in the tire. I got stuck doing some dirt relocation, but will get back on the T in a day or so.
