Re: Model A's Voltage Regulators - Model T generator life
I have used halogen bulbs in my A for the last 25 years with the generator set at 14 amps, do about 50% night driving. could set up a sun volt amp tester hard wired Does the regulator keep the third brush to limit amperage output? ( rebuilt it 50 years ago, just replaced front bearing only) before t...

Re: Need some advice on the Starter/Bendix
If the battery is weak it may not start spinning fast enough to engage the bendix what is the battery voltage, and how much does it drop when engaging the starter How old is the battery, perhaps have it load tested. and be careful around a battery that has been constantly charged, if it is gassing a...

Re: Recharging magneto, current draw
when I first started working on my 17 I was worried about starting it, cranking as fast as i could with the head off the best that the magneto produced was 3 volts. After reading about the on car recharge methods I figured to try it. Removed the terminal post and took a long carriage bolt, slipped a...

Re: T Generator
A resistor put in series for the field can be used to adjust output — some of the higher priced cars used the headlight switch to also switch in a resistance in the field circuit when the headlights were off

Re: Gas cap
I had a reasonable press fit, but didn't want to ever find it over the feed, as I was soldering the thought came to me that with 2 vent paths the chances of total loss of venting became a lot less--- being it's a stock 17 I have to think of any problems the starter might have.

Re: Gas cap
It's brass, and yes English Ford, I remember now, had a 48 prefect with that cap. I made a baffle, drilled both ears at angle into top, formed piece of copper roof flashing and soldered it in --- going to be good enough I think in the 60s it was being sold as replacements, the coils have 1963 dates,...

Gas cap
I have been working through systems hoping for drama free starting, took out gas tank to clean and re position-- the filler tank had rotated so the seat tin covered the filler cap 1/2 way, in looking closely the gas cap has no vent, what was used for vent ?

Re: I have to jack up the rear to start it
My 17 at first cranked like stirring molasses, my thoughts were how am I going to hand crank this, the old oil I drained out was almost gear oil, I put in some used 5w30(360 miles in a Porsche- ),I took the transmission cover off and poured some on the bands, and back into the clutches ,poured some i...

I went back, I was going to do some deeper mining, the tag on the rim said there were 2 rims, the dumpster was a new empty one, I know a T lived at the house, I also found a nos 36 Ford front spring, I am going to put a note on the house to see if they want help cleaning out the garage and basement.

Re: Adjusting buzzer coils
Free scope I got--- if the coils don't wack it out--- the coils made my snap on vantage cry, locked it up crying, is ok once I took battery out, rebooted it. The Allen smart scope has many functions, so far I got all the scope functions working that I have tried. It has divisions using the width of ...

Will this rim fit
On the way to work this morning I found this rim in the trash, I think it has a broken repair crack , I don't have any spare, welding it is no problem for me. The tire on it says 30/3-1/2 oversized, I haven't tried to put air in it yet

Re: Magnet recharge and my quest for spark
Definitely a little over 6v, the trace on the meter shows it, and the 12v bulbs make 6volt brightness . I'm going to put the coil box back in tonight. Is ther a piston position specification for timing? I already fixed the wobbling, loose lever pinned with bent nail--(shrunk lever with heat and dril...

Magnet recharge and my quest for spark
After fresh oil loosened it up enough I could only get 3 volts AC, after reading past posts I gathered 3 hot batteries and my good 00 wire jumper cables, couldn't find anything other than north, and a little less than north I just picked a spot I could find again , marked it on flywheel, after 2 day...

Re: Have You Hank Cranked Both a Model T and Model A?
I hand crank my A often, easy cold, hot except when real hot and in the heat soak --15 min to 45 after good run ,I know to not give demonstrations. I was worried when I first got the T, it cranked like stirring cold molasses even though it had no compression, now that I changed the oil and filled th...

Re: How much is 1917
The engine has April number, I will look for the body's data, I haven't seen any metal plates--- yet, I am just going to sew up and patch the top pads and glue/sew patches on the top for now. The worst stuck bolts have been the 2 rear head bolts , very little rust, can still see die stamping scratch...

Re: How much is 1917
I am mostly curious about how much is original, not going for a points car, I know about the wheels, and scrounging a spare and bracket is added to my searches, it's complete enough that I can make it drive, at this point just local is ok, I am going through the steering and brakes, greasing everythi...

How much is 1917
This is my first T, the engine has a April 1917 number, in looking at parts it seems 1917 is transitioning year, I am curious how correct it is ,mostly so that I can know enough to get parts that fit. It had no compression and turned over real stiff at first till I got oil worked into it ,when I dra...
