Re: '26 vs '27 roadster...... What's the difference?

I needed those sill plates about a year ago. First ordered them on Howell's website and never received them. I called and left messages with no call back, even sent a letter. I was persistent and one day Ryan answered the phone, I explained how I ordered the sill plates on a specific day to which he...

Re: Headlight Adjusting Tool needed…

My '26 had same issue but not as severe. I simply made a tapered shim to place between H/L mounting "foot" and fender. It took a lot of experimenting to get the correct taper and direction. For appearance I made a similar "gasket" for the opposite side. Quite pleased with the results. My car has an ...

Re: Wheelwright wanted

I am aware of Johnsons in Oklahoma. Their website leads me to believe they do very good work. I called them yesterday morning and left a message and then sent an e-mail. So far, no reply at all! Called Mr. Stutzman late yesterday as he was on Steve's list, left a message and got a call back at 8:00a...

Re: Wheelwright wanted

Spoke with Mr. Stutzman this AM. He is located about 4 hours drive time from me. He said he's not overwhelmed with work right now and offered to do my job WHILE I WAIT! Ordered a new hub. When it arrives I'll be on a road trip. Mr. Stutzman assured me as long as there are no kinks in my fellow any d...

Wheelwright wanted

looking for suggestions/recommendations for a professional who is capable of completely respokeing a front wheel for a '22 T that was in a collision. If anyone has a really nice wheel to spare, that would be just as good. Asking for a fellow model Ter who is not a board member. Please contact me via...

Re: Spark plugs

My 26 T came from the PO with a distributor that looks very similar to the one in your picture. The housing on mine is stamped with the VW insignia followed by a 9 digit number followed by a C and was used on '60's &'70's Beetles. I matched tune up parts with NAPA and came up with cap # EP274, point...

Re: Chatter slow speed & reverse

Today I removed the bands. I no longer believe they are Kevlar or meaty. 2 out of three have rivets worn a lot. To my surprise, all 3 drums & bands are narrow style. Brake drum has a score mark but not deep, no cracks in any of the drums and all the pedal ramps look good. I'm going to reline with Ke...

Re: Chatter slow speed & reverse

Car does have a Ruckstell, but not being a hot rodder my road test has been done in ruckstell lo. Bands are coming out at my leisurely way of doing things so it will be a while before I post results. I need to find my band clip as shown. No one mentioned to count the rags that one packs in and count...

Re: Chatter slow speed & reverse

Thank you, I don't believe the bands are too tight. Pressing HARD on the pedal there is a healthy inch space between bottom of pedal & floor mat. I'm very inclined to remove bands & inspect lining condition, band roundness, etc, but hope to do so thru inspection cover as there are no oil leaks now. ...

Chatter slow speed & reverse

recently succeeded getting a '26 T running that came from an estate & know no history on (see thread "Distributor Question") Have not yet insured or registered car so only road tested on my dead end street. Engaging low & reverse creates a substantial chatter and braking is pretty poor. Removed tran...

Re: Distributor Question

Hello everyone, I used all NAPA Echlin line parts. Points CS313, Condenser EP259, Cap EP274. Points & condenser box says made in Mexico and are identical in appearance. Cap says made in Germany, fits well but contacts are made of material different from the old cap, hopefully better as the pickups o...

Re: Distributor Question

Great news! Thanks to all contributors, points, condenser, cap & wires this car runs. As you can tell from the month delay, this has not been a priority. Now that the engine is running (it sounds strong too), I'll move on to another step of trying to get this car back on the road. Thanks for everyon...

Re: Distributor Question

The suggestion to take the old parts for match up was a good one! Matching parts have been ordered (not in stock, believe it or not). When they arrive and are installed, I'll post update. Thanks for all the help!

Re: Distributor Question

Thank you to everyone for the information,
Your posted pictures do look very much like the distributor in my car. All the input has been most helpful. Any suggestions for the best replacement points & condenser?
Thank you, Peter

Distributor Question

I recently acquired a 1926 touring that was part of an estate and know no history of the car. It's not a bad car, but it is equipped with a distributor that I am not familiar with. It appears like the Clip On Distributor shown in Lang's catalog but the distributor body has VW stamped in it as well a...
