Matt from Strong's Garage in bad non T accident
I'm sure many of you who use YouTube are familiar with Matt and Jim from Strong's Garage. Recently, a video was put out by Strong's Garage informing of a recent accident involving Matt. Figured I would pass along the news. He was driving his 1966 Ford / Mercury pickup truck wind someone ran into him...

I put a set of wilwood disc brakes, like what can be bought from the vendors, on my 22 touring. I have probably had them on about a month and a half and I've put about a thousand miles on them already. Personally, have nothing but good things to say about them. My plan is to first get the car running. When we ran it a few years ago, it was mixing oil and antifreeze bad. I'm hoping that it is just a head gasket, but we'll see. If I can get the car to at least run and drive that would be great.

Re: 8 volt
Our 25 touring runs 8 volt. When Grandpa was still alive before I was involved apparently he was having troubles with it running or starting on 6 volts so he converted it to 8 volts. He added a bunch of light bulbs and other jerry-rigged things to the wiring to converted back to 6 volts when it came...

Re: Shift handle idea's
Well, you could use a foot pedal, just the top, and really confuse people and say its the gas pedal...
Or an old rear axle roller bearing. Might be a bit more ergonomic.
Maybe an old bushing or radiator cap.
Just a few ideas

Re: Cracked Block
Thanks all.
Im glad that it is probably an old crack that reopened. I have noticed that it is quite Rusty in the water jacket and I have been progressively taking chunks of rust out and flushing the system.
Hopefully, its been that big since it froze, and I dont have to worry about it getting bigger.

Cracked Block - Update
I was looking my T over yesterday and noticed that the left rear half of the engine block was wet. It has always been a little moist near the bottom and since it never caused an issue, I just left it be. This time however, it was the whole side, up close to the head. I cleaned off the moisture and w...

Re: Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
Aside from a few smaller things, my wheels are done and ready to roll. I enjoyed the process and found it challenging and a good learning experience and I learned a lot. I encourage anyone else who is not trying to build a professional restored car to give it a go. I was quite intimidated by ...

Re: Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
Once I got my new spokes I sanded them and varnished them with the teak oil and clearcoat. I drilled the holes for the hub bolts and installed the hubs. I am happy with how the wheels turned out and unless you look close the two new spokes look pretty much like the old spokes. I should add that I de...

Re: Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
This is a controversial subject for some. Others don't care. As Larry says, for cars before 1925 so-called "natural" wheels are a modern fad. I'm less of an originalist than Larry, but I'm with him on this. Before 1925, Model T wheels should be painted body color. Even on 26-27 Fords, I believe nat...

Re: Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
I painted my rims twice, with just a brush, and they turned out pretty well. After the paint dried, I started working on the staining. I decided to use watco teak oil and rustoleum/varathane varnish to protect them from the UV. I brushed on 3 coats of the teak oil with a bristle brush, being careful...

Great post Austin. These kinds of info posts really help the hobby. Thanks! Thank you! I figure it will help with others to take the plunge in refinishing their wheels. Personally, I dislike natural wheels. They were not offered by Ford until 1925. I have a car that had natural wheels when I bought...

Thank you for all of the work you have put in to all of these parts! It gives me hope, being younger than most, that there will be NEW QUALITY parts for sale that don't cost an arm and a leg in the future.
Thank you!

Re: Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
Once all of the hubs had new races, I could focus on my rims again. I decided I wanted to sandblast the fellows, without removing the spokes. I took masking tape and covered all of the surface before I sandblasted one wheel, it turned out better than I thought, so I repeated the process with the oth...

Re: Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
Once I got the old inner race out of my new hub, I had a coworker weld a bead onto the outside race. Once enough weld was built up, we quenched it in water, and I was able to tap it out with a punch using the weld bead as a lip. I was happy, I sandblasted it and prepped it for the new races. I had t...

Re: Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
Switching to my hubs, this is where I ran into my problems. I started by masking off my races with aluminum tape and sandblasting. I was going to remove my races anyway but decided that they were still savable. Sandblasting went well and both hubs looked nice. My issue came when I removed the races....

Re: Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
After I removed the hubs, I began experimenting with sanding the spokes. I started with 60 grit sandpaper and going with the grain, resisting the temptation to wrap a piece around the spoke and go the other way. DON'T SAND AGAINST THE GRAIN. I spent probably 3 or 4 afternoons after work doing this f...

Re: Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
I began by removing the tires and wheels from the car. I took out the inner bearings with a punch and a tap of a hammer. I them removed the outer hub plates from all four wheels. I wanted to clean and inspect them, remove the races and paint them anyway. I removed the hubs by tapping on the ends of ...

Refinishing a set of wheels, my experiences
I recently got done refinishing my wheels on my 22 touring. For the most part, I enjoyed the process. It presented a few challenges, but I learned some things to do, and not do when I do it again. I decided I wanted to refinish my wheels not too long after I got the car and began working on it. The ...

Interesting, the first car looks a lot like a T that was on (auction?) Not too long ago. Note the ragged top, solid tires, and square radiator.
