Thanks gentlemen….You confirmed my sentiment…. New valves it is ……cut the seats with the new way cutter…. The camshaft is being re-ground and the adjustable valves lifters are already on the bench… a few folks had said that 3 thousandths was excessive…. Thanks for talking me off the ledge…..Lmaoooooo!

Do you have any idea what the static level is in the pan when the model T is on level ground…. how deep does the oil lay?
I’m frankly surprised there wasn’t more damage as all the other Babbits looked great!

Well, gentlemen, I want to thank everyone who took the time to post replies…… I ordered a set of standard valves, which I will try in the guides…. Ok….312 is new….. I just took a micrometer to my valves stems. The worst one is 308 and a half…the rest are split 309-310 So….2 to 3.5 thousandths under….how much is too much…. I’m tempted to use standard valves….. there appears to be very little side movement when I put the 310 valves into the valv...

Since so many are looking for a new cam…I’ve come to a dead end…looking for another option….does anyone know of any machinists regrinding stock cams? I’d ship mine anywhere at this point!

Does anyone have a couple of numbers for a stock cam….looking for the diameter….and the top of the cam apex to the bottom of the cam circumstance…(180 degrees from the apex of the lobe) and any wear limits…..I wanna see if I my original cam is useable!

TX….. I had done that to the valves before posting my update….. I put a washer underneath each valve…. that being said the valves weren’t completely open all the way… i’m going to try that one again….many thanks

TX…. Prior to tearing the engine down the engine purred like a kitten, and made zero noise until I spun the number two rod Babbitt….. right now the engine is torn down for an engine refresh…. so no pistons, connecting rods, head, etc.so the noise is pronounced while hand cranking the motor. Hey Forum Chums https://youtu.be/b_5CyTvX9fM After eliminating valve train noise…I moved on to the cam……the generator was already out as I had just rebuilt it…..I cranked with one hand and pushed forward on the cam gear with my left hand…..well three fingers of it anyway……no noise when cranked apply...

Thanks Jerry….but the punch marks are not to note position……not numbered 1234….but 2332…. it’s what I initially had thought until I saw that I didn’t have sequential numbers…..good info about honing….I was planing on doing that!

I have what I hope is not a stupid question….it was stated that the bands should be adjusted with the car running……I get that regarding the low speed band with the external adjustment… but one gentleman suggested that the reverse band should be adjusted in the same manner with the engine running…..f...
