Re: Oil

A year or so ago I had the same question about oil and it was suggested to me to use Shell Rotella T4 15w40.
From someone that professionally builds T engines and a lot of them. I have ran this oil in my rebuilt engine from the start.
So far so good.

Thanks for the info. Now that I know what it is I will be keeping it now. i will look into mounting it on the frame as well. Do you know
if it was a stock item or after market access.

Re: Horn will not fit inside 1926 Coupe hood after installing a water pump

Scott thanks for the kind words. I was surprised that the post would get such a reaction. I just want to get the car on the road and drive it. I can tell a fib or two about what parts are what and get away with it. Here is a photo of the horn that will not work. I found it searching for horn photos....

Re: Horn will not fit inside 1926 Coupe hood after installing a water pump

Prior to 26, all T horns mounted with a bracket to the left of the cylinder head, away from the water inlet. In 26, when the coil box was located in that space, the horn had to be relocated and a new bracket was made to locate the horn using the two bolts holding the water inlet to the left side of...

Horn will not fit inside 1926 Coupe hood after installing a water pump

Sprucing up an older engine and am putting a water pump on it. There are threaded holes to mount the horn bracket but when I mount the horn it is now not inside of the hood. Does anyone have any suggestions or photos of how they overcame this problem. I will probably figure something out but was cur...

Re: Larger 1926 Brake Drum

Hey Craig and Speedy, Thanks for replies. Right now I have a 1922 engine that came with my 26 coupe when I bought it. I have bought a 1926 engine block and am going to rebuild it to replace the 22 engine. I was hoping that I could put the larger brake drum on the older transmission before I go looki...

Larger 1926 Brake Drum

Can the smaller brake drum in an earlier transmission be replaced with the larger 1926 brake drum if you use the 4-dip crankcase oil pan or
does the entire transmission have to be replaced?

It turns out that I do have one of each but did not know that until today. I just went out to look at both pans and sure enough 3 on one and 4 on the other. Thanks for that. Still new but learning.

Re: Magneto Clearance

I think we are going to try Scott's suggestion and put the shim in. Hopefully it is in stock. This engine might not be in the car very long once we get it on the road. Just want to drive it a bit and then swap it out. We acquired another block with a 1926 Ser. number and are going to rebuild it from...

Magneto Clearance

A bit new to all this. Engine was vertical on the engine stand when I put a new magneto on. Put the transmission assy on to measure the gap. Too big, so I put shims under the Magneto and put the assy back on and checked the gap. All the gaps were anywhere from .035 to .042. A little wide but I figur...

Re: Setting Valve Clearance

Hey Mark, Just to be clear when you said No. 8 fully open and then said No. 6 Closed did you mean fully open on 6 or is it fully open or fully closed and that would apply to the valve you are adjusting.

Re: Setting Valve Clearance

Interesting stuff. Regarding Scott's question the crank is used and I was going to use .010 for clearance on both intake and exhaust.
I have read that exhaust clearance can be .012. As far as the rule of 9 that is completely new to me. Can you elaborate a bit on the
theory behind it?

Putting new valves in 1922 engine. Should both valves be closed when No. 1 piston is at TDC.

Makes complete sense. Thank you again. The excitement of buying a 100 year old car soon
becomes the reality that all you bought was a template. I guess I will have to also buy a new
intake manifold to replace the Zenith one.

Scott, Thanks for the info. It was on a stock 1922 engine that was in a '26 Coupe when I bought it. I am trying to get the '22 engine going with this carb so I am hoping it will still work. I will put fuel into it and see if it holds or leaks. If I actuate the throttle should fuel come out of the je...

I was wondering if anyone has any kind of instructions or directions to dismantle, clean and test the S4BF. Installing Pistons

New to Model T engine assembly. I have rebuilt other engines in the past and had to align timing marks on the cam and crank gears. I am in the process of doing a valve job and putting new rings on the pistons for my '26 Coupe. Have read and watched some videos and it seems that after the valves were...

Can anyone shed some light on whether to use the original one I have or switch over to a solid state one. A description of the original one could result in generator failure and the solid state ones sound like they are more reliable. I found them on Snyders web site and the cost is a lot less that r...

1926 Transmission Pedal Spacing

When I found my 26 Model T and checked the serial numbers, I found that the engine was a 1922 build. I was able to acquire a block with serial number for 1926 but it will be for a backup engine. During the teardown I noticed that the pedal trim plate had been cut up and a new slot was cut for the C ...

Paint Color options for 1926 Coupe

Was wondering if anyone knows if Straw paint color was used for wire wheels on a 1926 Coupe.
If it was, would anyone knows what the color formula is to mix the paint. Also was the 26 body painted with
enamel or Acrylic Lacquer? Thanks.
