I used manifold gaskets, copper clad from Snyders with new gland rings, do I also need the copper ring type gaskets too?

exhaust and intake manifold gaskets
Is one side or the other of the exhaust and intake manifold supposed to go a certain way? It looks like one side a small lip and the other side does not.

number 1 and 2 cylinder plugs carboned up
Motor seems to be missing and running rough. Number 1 and 2 plugs are carboned up with a little clean spot on tip of spark plug. Numbers 3 and 4 are super clean.
Is it a timer problem or coils or something else?
no trouble starting the car. Just does not sound correct.

1917 touring surges in Direct drive
My 1917 touring, starts and runs fine. It pulls away in low without slipping, but in high gear or direct drive it will surge like something is slipping and then it catches. when I go to neutral the engine has no surging. and again in low and reverse there is no slipping. Any Ideas what makes it surg...
