Re: A/C Brakes
I installed AC brakes (well repro). I also moved my handbrake back a bit. I really wanted to use cables, but I also wanted straighter less angled pull on the AC brakes and original brakes. So I moved the original brake levers out by a few inches by welding in some round bar to the handbrake. Then I ...

Thanks everyone for the kind words. With the wrist pins, I did worry about the wire locking. I made my own outside oil line - the high capacity one from hogshead to front of sump. It’s 3/8 stainless steel I used for the fittings and some clear tube for the hose. It does send a lot of oil down there… anyway one way to verify is have a bit of clear tube. I am tempted to put a filter in line.

I welded mine. I tend to go overboard on these things, so welded in a piece and ran a sleeve (tube) over the top and welded that too.
If you have a pipe bender, you can use that to unbend or straighten it out a bit. I used mine to straighten the crank and bend all kinds of bits for car and boat.

Re: Lock N Stitch
Maybe not best advice here, but I did my repair with stainless threaded rod. I drilled and tapped a hole in the middle of the crack. Then I threaded in the rod and then drilled an over lapping hole and did the same again and so on. I used a welder with stainless 309LSI wire to weld across the ends o...

Re: Camshaft outlook for 2023?
Hi all, Received my Cam a couple of weeks ago - thanks Chaffins - now trying to finish the engine which as always is fighting back. I swear this car is cursed. Thought I would mention a couple of my issues and work arounds. May not be the proper way to do things, but I am quite also fussy so I seem ...

Hi Mark,
Did not see the message, but sent in my order today, hope I am not too late as I really want this car back on the road after 3 years of hassle and rebuilding! I am guessing that the cams come with the 7.5 degree advance built in?

I’m confused as I thought these shoes were just for 1926-27 cars? I am about to put my 1923 together and there is no space for shoes, and they had none when I took it apart. I had to file the notches out but they were not too bad. The Mike Bender videos do not shoe any shoes either.

Re: Camshaft outlook for 2023?
Hi all, Don’t suppose there is any news on when camshafts will be ready? On a side not someone just tried to scam me, they said they had a Stipe camshaft, I smelt a rat when they claimed to have a 1923 Stipe Speedster, so I asked if they had a cam chain and oil pump for a T… They did, so I asked if ...

Re: Camshaft outlook for 2023?
Well I bought a new camshaft bush. It has the cam follower clearance notch and the groove too. So next to fit it and I think I will buy a 19mm reamer as that will be just over 0.748. I will slot it into a 19mm inner diameter bit of tube that I will use as a sleeve for the reamer to a bit of 19mm or ...

Re: AC brakes cable question.
I will be fitting my ACs eventually if I ever get the engine back together… I do not have the cables or link. I am planning to use a marine style pulley for running rigging (steel pulley) of 7x7 stainless cable and then stainless cable 1x19 5mm to connect to the brake pedal. That way all three means...

Unfortunately I don’t have old triple gear bushing or gear to make one. At what point would you say it is too worn and time to change? I am guessing that the steel or cast iron (some people say it is steel?) bushing is tougher than the brass?

Re: Camshaft outlook for 2023?
Hi all, Quick camshaft related question whilst I wait for a new cam: I am checking my rear bush which is either steel or cast iron. The rear journal on my worn camshaft is about 0.747 to 0.7475 so I think it has 0.5-1 thou of wear on the rear bearing journal. The mid journal was 0.7465. I put the ca...

Hi Mark, Great news on Camshafts. I suppose the rear bearing will need driving out and changing too then. Mine is okay I believe, so I was going to leave and start reassembly today, but if I need to change it to fit the new re grind cam, then I guess I cannot reassemble now, so it will have to sit o...

Hi all, I have tried all the usual places too as I just went to fit my cam and realised that one lobe was badly worn (I should have been more precise in checking it when I took it all apart two years ago now). Not sure what to do now, I don’t fancy getting it reground considering my luck with dealin...

Re: Measuring piston clearance after rebore
The lifters were okay in hole size, but I am putting in new std lifters to get round any dishing. The valves stem holes were a bit worn so oversize valves and recut seats. The babbit was good overall, and even after bedding to 1.5 thou, I still have quite a few shims. I did fit a new centre cap just...

Hi all, Well I called another machine shop that had straightened the con rods for me and took the block and pistons to them. They do lots of vintage stuff including stuff for vintage racing and such. Re: Measuring piston clearance after rebore
Thanks all for replies. I have just checked all 4 pistons in all 4 holes and they all measure the same. So in-line with the pin about 11-12 thou at base. 90 degrees to pin at base, less than 2 thou. At the level of pin, but 90 degrees to it is 3.5 thou or so. I had assumed that the taper of the pist...

Measuring piston clearance after rebore
Hi All, Well I am slowly progressing, crank is now good as are the con rods all at 1.5 thou clearance with no binding. They were a pig to balance, I ended up doing twenty measurements and averaging… So I thought I would check my pistons. These are new cam ground 0.20 oversize. I told the machine sho...

Re: Driven plate bush to transmission shaft
Thanks for replies, I have not removed my old bushing yet fr9m the driven plate. My brake drum has two bushes in it so was I suppose done at a time before that changed to one. It feels fine with no indication of any wear on the transmission shaft and it does not feel loose. The amount of slop on the...

Re: Driven plate bush to transmission shaft
Thanks all for responses. I bought the new bushes and they (unfitted) are just as loose as my current bush on the transmission shaft. I think my transmission shaft is good. The main bit is .998 or very very close to it. The driven plate bush runs on the thinner diameter bit of the shaft that I have ...

Hi all, Well I have constructed an engine stand so I can stand the whole assembly on end to check and set mag gaps, run out and 4th main alignment. Just to add, I am not sure Scat ever replied to Langs either… They had not when I made my decision to accept Lang’s offer. I ended up straightening the crank myself. The box had Scat and the details written on the end so it was the original box. Hi Everyone, Well I am a very annoyed and pretty depressed. I live in the UK and have a 1923 Speedster that needed a new crank. So I did what I thought was the gold standard and ordered a new Scat crank. 9 months later, it arrived in the UK and of course I had to pay shipping and 25% in import taxes...
