Re: Winfield SR backfiring through carb
Valid point, yes I should be “good” on fuel quality. It’s a modified period tank (late teens/20s, if anyone knows the year/brand I would love to know) tank that is below the spare. The tanks was cleaned and recon inside. New filter and I have a gauge after filter and regulator to confirm pressure ma...

Re: Winfield SR backfiring through carb
Thanks, the carb does have a slight surge when idling. I could recheck that seal. Regarding pressure, I backed off on it last year from 2.5 to 1.5 due to a flooding issue but since fixed the carb flooding issue by mating the needle and seat better . Might be time to bump up the pressure. SR pump wor...

Winfield SR backfiring through carb
I am having some carb backfiring and wanted to see if anyone had insights before I start “trying” things to fix it. Here is what I have: 26 engine, rajo BB head, Winfield SR down draft, AB distributor. Fuel is hand pump, set to 1.5 psi with an hidden regulator. Engine was built in the 70s, I rebuilt ...

Re: American Bosch ignition switch
Thanks for the compliment. Lots of planning and hours went into it. Even traveled to Mass. to see two original modified T’s with engine turned dashes at Lang’s for my research. Happy with the results, attached is the car it’s in. Thanks!

American Bosch ignition switch
I recently finished my American Bosch ignition switch for my new dash on my 23 roadster. The car has an AB type 448 distributor too. I bought an original wire loom and am getting to the point of connecting the loom to the switch. I don’t have experience with a stock model t switch or ignition system...

Re: Rajo OHV question
Thanks for the insight Ed! How well does your heat tubing work keeping your intake warm? It’s a neat look. Whole engine bay is very nicely done. Feel free to post more pics of your T/engine if you like!

Re: Rajo OHV question
For what it’s worth, I have a Rajo Model 30 head with a Stromberg RF. Have never had a water pump (or circulator) and have never overheated or boiled over. That said, I just replaced a 100 year old worn out honeycomb radiator core with a new V-cell core. But even with the old core, it never overhea...

Re: Rajo OHV question
Thank you everyone for your insight. I really appreciate it. It ran happy with the pump so based off the suggestions, I will clean up the pump and put it back on.

Rajo OHV question
For the guys running a Rajo ohv… or any OHV, do you need to run a water pump? I know in original articles in model t in speed and sport it was a common addition, but it seems the consensus now is a water pump is not needed if the rad is in good working order. I have a 26 with a bb, hot cam, model a ...

Re: Starting issues
Great input here. Car does not have a hot air connection, just open carb and is on a very nice homemade intake. Regarding the starter, that is on my list to check. I noticed the terminal post was loose and I suspect I may have over tightened it when I cleaned the connection as there is no other expl...

Re: Starting issues
Great input! I am going to try less choke. I choke less than previously but maybe I need to drastically choke less. Each one is different and this T has enough changed to make me chase my tail… Rajo racer- I think high compression is fighting me here. I am trying to avoid going to 12v so my plan was...

Re: Starting issues
Thanks for the input, it’s worth trying to ease up on the choke. I was thinking stock T choke process maybe.

Starting issues
Hello, I am having some starting issues with my T. I bought the car and it was in static storage so some of the backstory is unknown. After changing all fluids ect I am trying to chase down the starting issues but am running out of ideas. Engine cranks, wants to catch but won’t . If I jump it with 1...

Re: Bosch type 448 distributor set up
Instructions were great, set up as described and added the ground wire as instructed. It did start, but I am having a rpm surging at idle. I am running a Winfield sr downdraft. Any thoughts on the source of this? Intake gasket and carb gasket have been replaced…

Bosch type 448 distributor set up
Hello, I have a 26 engine that has an original Bosch front plate 448 distributor. The car has always been very hard to start and I am trying to verify the basics. Could someone confirm install instructions on an original Bosch 448? I currently have TDC identified, points are open but the rotor is po...

Re: Deep sump oil pan question
Yea, first post. Pictures won’t load…anyways, I didn’t build the engine but it’s a rajo bb, Winfield down draft carb, original Bosch distributor. Not sure what was done internally but the crank appears to be ground, smoothed and probably balanced. I wanted to use it because it was a piece of 20’s sp...

Deep sump oil pan question
I picked up a deep sump oil pan and I would like to use it on my 1926 non pressurized engine. I have other speed items on the engine so this would be a neat period piece for the bottom end. Looks like an original pan extended to hold 2-3 more quarts. Sump hangs between the wishbones. Pan has a singl...
