Daisy Mae's rear axle

Continuing on with the restoration of the running gear, up next is the rear axle. Daisy has obviously seen a lot, had travelled across the US in '16, and must have been driven hard, as every time I dig into something she show's me she's hurtin all over. So, out she came... Pulled the axle today. I don't even need to disassemble the thing to know the driveshaft thrust bearing is shot, simply looking at how chewed up the face of the 4th bearing is!!

Re: What have you done with your Model T in April

I hadnt really wanted to take Daisy all the way down, but given the rebuild of the rear as well as the tranny, the tear down began yesterday. As good as the top side paint is on the fenders/running boards, the undersides however are pocked with lots of small rust bubbles. Given coastal salt air, tha...

Totally agree. I'm so happy to see an interest in these cars from the younger generations. The blessing of knowledge should be eagerly imparted to those seeking it. Not sure about how it happens, purging, server upgrades, dead links, or just SH... But I belong to a Bullitt Mustang site where 100% of the posted pictures from 15-24 yrs back no longer exist. The mystery deepens.... The prior owner told me the car hadn't ran since 1935. I took that to mean it was original condition from that period. He further stated they were never able to get it started, and told me they figured it was a bad mag. They had initiated a restoration in '68, but stopped whe...

Norman, thanks for your feedback/suggestions. But the issue is definitely not an operational one, it's mechanical. Wayne, That is exactly what I had noted with my initial poking around... Depressing the pedal in/out moved the entire drum assembly fore/aft approx 3/8" I figured it was a worn bronze thrust face, didn't think about the sheared pin...but the symptoms sure point to a lot of cancer in various spots......

Pedals to cams are tight, bands are all in spec re sufficient clearance off the drum, and engaged with good clearance to the floor, and, solid lock up of the drum, with positive release. With initial start of the engine, and the rear off the ground, I confirmed each separate band operation/action. A...

Re: Wizard or Simmons flapper

Another suggestion when sand casting, is to use a thin rod and introduce relief channels in the mold to help draw the metal and eliminate the irregular edges and bubble voids as is seen in your first attempt. Easily trimmed/filed off in final finishing, but produces a more pure casting.

Nice selection of songs on your list. A little research I'm sure you could find lots more T focused songs.

Got some very minor bubbling in the head gasket between 2 & 3 above the lower coolant port.
Cranked down on the bolts when hot, lessened it some, but still spits out a tiny bubble every 3-5 seconds.

Some issues still to keep me busy...
No surprise...
