front hub identification

My late Oct 11 built Touring came with restored wheels with two different style front hubs. From reading past posts and an article by Royce I think I have one early hub without a step machined for a speedometer gear and one later with the machined step. I think the non machined one is correct. Would...

Re: Wheel bearings.

it appears that I have two different front hubs. One is of thicker construction with grooves in the inner and outer race areas. The other is of thinner construction, slightly shorter and no grooves and appears to be slightly egg shaped on the outer edge. Both were rebuilt and painted when I got them...

Thanks for the replies. Mitch, I watched your video last weekend! I do prefer to keep all things original and have placed a WTB ad in the parts section. Art

Wheel bearings.

My Oct 11 built Touring came with rebuilt wheels but no wheel bearings. I have read a few past posts about the early hubs being of thinner material and a danger of splitting when roller bearing races are pressed in. Should this be a concern and do you recommend the roller bearings for this applicati...

four new Universal tires

I have four new black Universal T driver tires, two 30/3 and two 30/3.5. The 30/3's came with my 11 project and I just took the wrapping off. The two 30/3.5's were just purchased and delivered two weeks ago. I have decided to go with white tires instead. The price is 145.00 each plus shipping.

Brake rods

The brake rods that came with my 1911 project are straight, but the ones in the suppliers catalogs have a couple of bends in them. What should the brake rods look like? Here is a picture of mine and the ones in a Langs catalog. Art

Re: Instructions

Nice job Dean. My 1911 Touring car project came with a new J V Auto Group top kit. I plan on installing it when the weather here in mid Illinois stays warm enough. I also have new top bows that need shaped to the top irons first. Both tasks seem rather difficult. Art

Should there be cotter pins in the engine oil pan bolts? The bolts on my 11 are installed from the bottom with the castle nut on top but there are no cotter pins installed. Thanks, Art

Thanks for the responses. As I was typing my question I did think about this being like a"what weight oil" or "mystery oil" question. I did mean for my question to be about preserving the cleaned finish on the smaller latches, brackets, etc. Art
