Re: Instructions

Nice job Dean. My 1911 Touring car project came with a new J V Auto Group top kit. I plan on installing it when the weather here in mid Illinois stays warm enough. I also have new top bows that need shaped to the top irons first. Both tasks seem rather difficult. Art

engine pan bolts

Should there be cotter pins in the engine oil pan bolts? The bolts on my 11 are installed from the bottom with the castle nut on top but there are no cotter pins installed. Thanks, Art

1911 progress

I have put new transmission band linings and rear brake shoes on, removed the body from the frame and started dry fitting some pieces. I have also made a windshield riser board and refinished the Kingston coil box. I also welded and shaped a new tip on the parking lever pawl. I need to rivet a runni...

Re: preserving brass

Thanks for the responses. As I was typing my question I did think about this being like a"what weight oil" or "mystery oil" question. I did mean for my question to be about preserving the cleaned finish on the smaller latches, brackets, etc. Art

Re: FJ - Legendary Kim Dobbins

Kim helped me purchase my 11 after I followed FJ’s advice to ask Kim about the car. FJ said if there was an early T for sale in southern California Kim would likely know the car. FJ was right. Kim didn’t know me but took the time to answer my questions, he knew the car and the seller, and then he he...

Re: 1911 firewall

Thanks Marshall, I notice your length of 28 1/2 inches is about 3 3/4 inches shorter than the top of the lower section of the my firewall and in your pictures appears about the same. In every picture I have seen of an 11 the riser part is the same width as the bottom section. The bottom section is a...

1911 firewall

My 1911 touring car project came with only the bottom of the two piece firewall. Can someone post the dimensions of the windshield riser section of the firewall? Is the windshield riser section constructed of a solid board or plywood like the bottom section? Thanks, Art

Re: Early Beaudette Body Numbers

For restoration purpose what would you do about the body number if you had a new (Ray Wells) built body? Would you stamp body numbers on it it the correct locations or is that considered improper of fraudulent?
