You should have no trouble with this, if you can find suitable patch material, both upholstery material and a coating similar to what was used in the original material. Neil, if you want to give it a go, I recommend buying a poor condition radiator to fix, unless you current one is hopelessly bad, ie has a fan sticking through it. You could try Bob's radiator in Agawam, I know they will touch old radiators, not sure about re-coring or if paying for a professional r...

Laminated glass would not be less likely to crack, just would contain all the pieces it it does, either way still broken. The mirrors are the difficult and expensive piece, flat glass can be sacrificed to the acetylene gods (if that was the cause). If you did want something that might survive an ace...

I would use boiled linseed oil, the closest to an archival/reversible finish you will likely get, plus since it is a drying oil, it will not leave an oily mess. Keep the coat very thin, you aren't painting it, it may take a week or so to be fully dry. Put oily rags outdoors, preferably after soaking...

I don't think that's daylight, just a glint of light reflecting off oil/grease sitting on top of the bushing (which appears to be short). It is hard to judge wear based on that photo, but I would be more comfortable if I saw more wear on the top of the yoke. Scary.

I think that I would remove the inner cable, clean the sheath, and silver solder just the damaged joint to make a fillet to bridge the broken section. I believe the Bermuda name is much later as well. The earlier ones were made by Bevin Bell in CT, although I have also seen them marked with names of retailers who sold them, but those seem otherwise identical to the ones marked Bevin.

The early ones were plated brass. Some may also have been plated steel, at least partially. The brass ones have a crisper tone than the later ones.
