Normally, there is some sort of a Vee groove in the bottom and then a clamping plate dangling from the underside...that thing grabs the Vee Way on the top of the lathe and then clamps tightly. That way it can be slid to some relative (useful for that job) and clamped tightly.

Concerning a Model T 6 volt battery, the Optima type batteries do a very good job of holding a charge in vehicles that are not driven regularly, provided there are no parasitic drains.

Another reason I have a 6.2 gas F250. Diesel engines cost a lot more to buy and it seems to maintain. I can buy a lot of gasoline for the difference.

When the spark lever is all the way up the tab on the timer is about 1/4 inch to the left of the large bolt at the top of the timing gear cover. I am standing in front of the radiator looking in and the tab is to the left of the bolt. That is the position where the timer is...

Shiny wouldn't last long in the country anyway, mostly the city folks probably kept theirs shiney because they had cobblestone streets and weren't driving in mud. OF course there was the Autobowl if you got mud on your tires!

Tire types and tire pressures on the combination will have an effect. Condition and suitability of the tow vehicle is important. The type of trailer suspension can be a factor. A hard cover over a pickup bed or a camper shell might reduce aero drag of the combination.

In 1922 Stanley made two distinct models, the 735 and the 740. Most 735s used 26 wheels and most 740s used 23 wheels, but time has a way of slipping different parts onto cars, so who knows what size are on the car.

Further, Stanley used lock-ring style rims, not split rims. Still, who knows what is on the car now.

I have no first hand advice. However, when we have a Cooker Tour , it seems most of the folks in our chapter start with fully cooked food that is simply warmed in the manifold cooker. Helps to prevent the possibility of undercooked meat. So, I'd say pick your favorite chili recipe, cook it at home the day before, then warm it up in the cooker. Or,...

I just finished watching the two videos and what I think is amazing is that these people went on a cross country drive from Phila to Alaska during the 1st year of the depression and thought nothing of it.

I finally figured out what happened to the Bachmann 0-6-0 engine, it's missing a brass contact. With it missing no voltage to motor, I checked the motor and it runs fine with jumper wires direct to the frame. I'm guessing a past owner messed with it, unfortunately its so old that I cannot get new contacts from Bachmann. Guess I need to check ebay...

Los Angeles is in a very bad location for a large, modern city. They ought to get rid of LAX. Mexico City could hardly be in a worse location for a huge, heavily industralized city. Pittsburg, Pennsylvania is in a horrible location for an industrial city. Eight billion people is four times too many.

Just be careful using Redcoat. Startron and Stabil will dissolve the stuff and it will clog your fuel system and worse.

As for speed, I'd think hard tires, light weight, and lack of shocks would make it necessary to keep speeds way down except on very smooth pavement or a really smooth, hard-packed dirt road.
