Difference between early and late frame brackets for body brackets?
by
Tbird » Tue Oct 14, 2025 12:29 pm
I have an assortment of frame brackets for my 12. These are the ones that are riveted with two rivets to the sides of the frame that the body to frame brackets would mount to. Some the steel is thicker than the others.
Anyone know if the earlier brackets were thinner or thicker than later ones?

Does anyone have experience with what the rate of incline may be in order to starve the carburetor and cause my T to stall? With older Model T’s that had the tank under the seat, running out of gas on long inclines was a common occurrence. Not so much with the ‘26-‘27 that had the tank in the cowl.
There was an old T era cartoon of a Model T salesman taking his customer for a test drive. As he approached a hill he knew the T could not make before running out of gas,...

I did upholstery on collector cars for about 30 years. Saddle soap is good for older leathers, especially for those that are surface coated. More modern leathers that are vat dyed do not recommend saddle soap, just a cloth with warm water and regular soap.

There is an oil tube inside the engine with the funnel right below the magneto to direct oil to the timing gears and Rod & Main #1.
The best way to clean it is to remove the front cover and blow back from the front to make sure it is clear.
But on an assembled engine this is not very practical.

There is a hole in the rear axle housing where the bushing for the brake cam goes. It looks like it is for oiling the bushing. Was there an oiler for this? It seems like oiling this would allow oil into the inside of the brake drum, but who knows.

Yes an oiler goes there. Only a couple of squirts of oil will fit. I have never had a problem with oil and the parking brake.

I had the same thoughts about making repairs. A prominent collector told me not to do so. It can devalue a good original sign. Besides, on this one it looks like two nails were driven through the bottom to mount it some way, so the panel itself would need repair, possibly extending the damage in the process.

Anyone have the Rich Baughman AC Brake linkage setup that would be willing to share the dimensions for the rods from the brake pedal to the bellcrank and the rods from the bellcrank to the brakes? Also, if you have the instructions that came with the linkage set?

Interesting.
I notice the rod clevises mount to a small plate that acts as an equalizer.
The secondary pull rod has a spring to remove the slack from the system.

I saw this tool at a friends place, it had the Ford script stamped on the upper part of the handle so i did some research on it. Apparently sometime in 1913-14 time frame Ford used this tool in their service operations. Does anyone have any further documentation on it? Attached is a picture and the only info I could find related to Fords use.

Some tools with Ford stamped on them were for plant use, so they stayed in the plant.

The current bridge washer offerings are not made correctly. They got the thickness and shape correct, but didn't do the stamping correctly. Why? There is a round stamping around the stem hole to help the bridge washer seat on the tube. Is there anyone anywhere, that is capable of doing this?
Last post
Larry,
It is not that they are reproducing the bridge washers wrong, it is that those bridge washers are made for modern truck tire inner tubes, not Model A's or Model T's. They may be similar, but they are not the same, and as people are finding, they do not fit the original clamp on style metal stems or tires.

I need to design a reflector out of metal to mount on the spare tire, have 24 of tape and four screw mounted plastics and plenty of steel. I do not want a triangle because I believe it has a legal meaning. So, what does everybody else use? I need some inspiration.

Hi folks
question.
I have a plunger type Hand Klaxon horn which has a badly rusted diaphragm but is otherwise in good shape. I don't know whether to make the new gaskets out of gasket paper or rubber, and am not sure if diaphragms from a motorized Klaxon will fit the old plunger types.
It is marked The HAND KLAXON -- Lowell-McConnell Mfg. Co,...

A Model A Ford horn kit might have a large enough diaphragm.

We just completed another video for our Model T Camp and Adventures channel on You Tube. We are not monetized and make nothing from the videos. We also are a couple of old dinosaurs making videos and never use any form of AI.
This was a combination of us being Old School and the rest of the family group being Modern as to camping gear.

Mike. We have a 1929 Zagelmeyer pop up tent that we tow with our 1927 Model T touring. It has wire wheels on it that match out car. So only one spare needed. We have Sure Stop Disc brakes on the car so it stops good on good roads. But we are going to add electric trailer brakes this winter. That way I'll feel more comfortable pulling it on gravel....

So a while back I posted a request for NH rebuild tools, of course Scott Conger responded, (Thanks Scott). But yesterday I received an email from Colleen Winchester saying she had the rebuild tools as well for only $80. After a couple of questions I could quickly see where this was going, normally I am pretty busy, but I thought I would engage....

How Far Should Timer Rotate?

mortier » Sat Sep 27, 2025 3:12 pm
First post
My New Day Time doesn't seem to rotate far enough when using the spark lever. It only goes maybe 10-degrees (say from 12:00 to 1:00). Should it rotate the entire distance the spark lever does?
Last post
Mike Kosser wrote a simple procedure to verify the timer moves far enough between full retard and full advance.
Basically the timer needs to move at least 0.91 to get full range and best performance on any timer you use.
I stole them and have posted them here.

I hear when installing any felt washers and other pieces you're supposed to put either gasket shellac or some rtv on them before instillation on all sides. my question is though if its an issue or not when it comes to the sides of the washers, for instance the seal on the front bearings, they rotate, so wouldn't the shellac sticking to the rod and...

what oil would you say I use? like a heavier gear oil or even a grease or should it be lighter?
I use ordinary engine oil, some use grease. Not sure it makes a difference.
When using oil I soak the felt, not just a coating.

Google: Ford model a speedster gas tank argentina . Then look for a facebook post.
I figured they were some sort of modern re-creation, manufactured in small numbers for a specific niche market. I can only recall a very few era photos showing such a shape gasoline tank. I suspected they were not made in the USA because most of the modern era...

What have you done to/with your Model T in September?
Made a sleeve between the timer and the adjustment rod; used grease. There was that much play. (background is 60 grit)
I had used screws with a plus + in order to attach the rain gutters to the top wood and tried to hide my sins with some black silicone.

I searched the forum but didn’t come up with much. Does anyone have a slick way to store the hood when it’s removed for maintenance or repairs? I’d rather not have to disassemble it but also don’t have the room to just sit it on edge on the floor.
Last post
I place it sitting verticallly on a piece of carpet, or cardboard, or even grass. Folding it in a sort of W configuration.
