Is This Radiator Repairable?

First post
This is the same radiator as in my March 17 post. It is a round tube radiator. I thought it would be good to start a new post.
These photos show it after filling it with water. I found two leaks. One at the cast iron outlet, and one in the core. Sorry, the last photo would not go in vertically. A follow up post will show these same locations...
Last post
Neither one of those leaks looks so bad that you couldn't use it as-is, just to see how well it will cool. I'd do that first, then fix the leaks. Waddya' got to lose?

I can't get the passenger side door to close with new welting and door panel. It appears the door is too close to the subrail by the lower hinge and bottom of the door panel is causing it not to latch. The hinges look perfectly straight and not bent and the door is rock solid to the cowl. Taking out the striker helps.

Most everyone agrees that Henry Ford thought his son Edsel was weak and spent much of his energy trying to toughen him up, to no avail. I think Edsel was a gentle soul that would have loved nothing better than to spend his time with the engineers designing better cars rather than in management trying to fill the shoes of Henry. Car design is where...
Last post
I agree with the OP. Unfortunately Henry was not the type to relinquish authority. Edsel was a genius, but I doubt that he could possibly worked well in any capacity with his father as his boss. Ford would have been well ahead of where it was in 1927 if Edsel had his way. Ford didn't really catch up with GM and Chrysler until about 1939.

The leak at the outlet joint may be due to vibration or forces from removing an old, stuck hose. The leak in the core proper is likely to be from a micro-crack or a pinhole in the tube from internal corrosion. Be aware that any water spilled onto a radiator core may remain between the fins for quite a long time. Be certain that there is an actual...

I am relining the service brake on my 1906 Orient Buckboard runabout. All you forumeers grumbling about marginal Model T brakes take note: the Orient system utilizes one external band, a full inch in width, contracting around a massive 5 diameter drum on the left rear wheel.
I have a couple varieties of Model T woven lining on the shelf and...
Last post
...Glue wasnt necessary. Bonding the linings is a modern thing.
Modern, yes, but also necessary for this application — there was a lot of spring-back from the lining and there is no way the rivets could have held it snug to the band. The brake drum is only 5 diameter and the lining was not happy with that much curvature.

The Holley gave terrible mileage on the commute, always less than 10 mpg.

Those are classic symptoms Jim. The rust dust comes first, as the spokes 'work' in the felloe. The clicking comes a little later when they have become looser. It is best heard when pushing the car around without the motor running. Time then for a rebuild.

If someone in the past has installed a modern oil seal in the front of the crankshaft, you will have some problems. I don't remember whether I had to pull the engine to get it off, but the seal is one piece between the timing gear cover and the crankcase. I believe the record low price F. O. B. Detroit was $265.00 for the 1926 roadster. By then, I'm pretty sure that included self starter and demountable rims. ?!?
It would be interesting to know how much transportation and dealer preparation added to the selling price in various localities.

When I first bought my 1926 Model T coupe in 1970, I had no idea where to buy parts. I do remember the J.C. Whitney catalog was the first Model T parts source I bought from. Allan, the intake heater was on my car when I got it, and I can only assume the fuel quality prior to 1954 (when the car was last used before I got it) was worse than now, or the original owner just assumed the performance to be normal. It runs much smoother and with more power without it.

I thought that I had this book somewhere, I just had to find it. I had forgotten the size of the book and was looking for something larger. This book is MUCH smaller than you think it should/would be. There are also 2 volumes of The Automobile Repairman's Helper (same author, published at or about the same time) and they are the same small size....

Extra engine oil in Mountains?

First post
Hello,
I just wanted to see what you all think of adding an extra quart with an oil change in more mountainous areas. I recently read that many people will use 5 quarts in their T's instead of 4 to ensure good oiling to the front of the engine when driving in hilly or mountainous areas. Does anyone think this is necessary?
Thanks and God Bless.

An important thing about a magneto post oiler is to be sure the electrical parts don't block the entrance to the oil pipe. You might have to make a few adjustments to accomplish this. As long as it is open, the oil should flow very well. Best thing to use is multigrade oil because the single grade oil tends to be thicker when cold. Also the...

In Mr. Andersons 2021 catalog, he had these two types of 1915 horn tubing assemblies listed. Would anyone be able to shed some light on what the difference is between the two?

I would like to find a picture of the parts that are missing from this 1911 Stewart Speedometer Swivel. I got it with some other speedometer parts and would like to complete it. I believe it to be the early 1911 swivel because of the small, brass grease cap.
Any help will be appreciated. 1911 swivel body.jpg

Thanks for the picture. That’s what I was looking for. Now the quest begins.

Good day everyone
I am looking to buy a brass Model T. Preferably in the north midwest.
Last post
Another use Norm didn't mention is travel by Model T. That means not trailering, but driving to where you're going then driving home. The two main requirements are getting the T in shape for it and having the time to do it. Not many do it, but I enjoy it greatly.

None of todays lacquer thinners are as high grade as the reducer thinners for automobile paint due to the VOC laws. They work fine for most thinning jobs, but I use proper reducer grade solvents for my auto paint reducing.

This low hood is for my latest project. You can see the original black paint under the red primer. What is not seen at first sight is the panel damage.
In the 1960's a large city Ford dealership liquidated old stocks of parts to get them off the books so taxes on stock were eliminated. They had to be destroyed to avoid potential re-use. The result...

I am switching from a vaporizer carb to a NH carb on my 1927 coupe. I will need to move the arm on the throttle rod down about 10 to an existing hole on the rod. My problem is how to move the arm. Yes think about doing NOTHING else. As the man said, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Taking apart the steering column requires the careful removal of several peened rivets. You already have encountered the easiest to remove. Good advice about checking the steering bracket attached to the frame. You have a '26/7 steering column - if you have the...

Head Gasket Specifications - question

Been thinking of getting a head gasket. There are several types available, copper, steel clad, Fel Pro, and fiber with silicon squish. Started reading about how the thickness of the head gasket could effect compression but couldn't find any information on what the types being sold are spec'd at. Also is there a consensus of what a stock head...
Last post
With the current shortage of copper/asbestos head gaskets I measured the thickness of new and used gaskets.
The one new gasket I have on hand was 0.090” and several used gaskets 0.062” to 0.066”.
I have made a water bath and soaked a used one for a couple of days and then let it dry out. It had increased in thickness to 0.085” but I haven’t been...

Thanks everyone. I'm guessing that these are kevlar bonded to a cotton backing (see pictures). I had bought these new (many years ago) and only changed the brake band (1926/27) in the car at that time. That band is still in the car with no problems (that I'm aware of).

They look like 23-25 coupe or ford-or front doors. The Encyclopedia indicates that the fordor doors were aluminum but my 24 coupe are aluminum.
Bruce insisted my doors were not correct and had been replaced at some time. I could see one being changed after maybe an accident, but not both.

...
If you are providing vintage license plates, then the year embossed on the license plate must match the model year of the vehicle. In addition, DMV must inspect and approve the physical condition of the vintage plates.
To register your vehicle with antique or permanent vintage license plates, DMV charges a one-time $50 registration fee.
