Go to your name on top header and open your user data, then click on message board to go to your long list of messages. At the lower right bottom is a icon with upright, click on that and it opens the menu to do what you want, then mark them marked and then delete the list with a click.

So my project to address leaking axle seals may have morphed into a bigger project. I removed the rear end from my 1924 TT to address the inner oil seals which I knew were bad. I had patched things together last year by replacing the inner and out bearing seals but knew that I was getting differential oil down the axle housing to the bearings. I...

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I have found a good worm gear. No joy yet on the axle so may just put back together and make sure its well greased. Through researching on this forum, I got connected with Tom at Model A Works and he has a set of properly sized felts coming for the inside seals and the driveshaft. I know they won’t perfectly...

It appears to me that if the emergency circuit has a simple single pole on-off switch, the right/left switch will activate both sides together. I think the emergency switch needs to have two separate terminals going out, with no connection between them. Is that right?

Is there anything in particular I need to know about centerdoors before I take a look?

Darel,
Good choice. I hope to one day learn there was a K in South America, meaning the model would have been to every inhabited continent.
The last location was Hawaii. The islands were a newer U.S. territory. In 1908 a Model K participated in a reliability contest with a White steamer, Packard, Buicks, Maxwell and Franklin....

Looks like I found a really effective product: Metal Rescue rust remover...

The best way to clean one of these tanks is to cut it open at the welds, clean/sandblast/coat it, and reweld it together. You can get by for a while with other methods but this way is permanent.

I haven't been back to this little town in years but remember a guard rail about the statue to protect it from certain death so to speak. there used to be a large building on the corner similar to the photo but it was burned in a fire I think in the late 60's. sure brings back memories however.

Hello Fellow Model Ters,
I am restoring my 1911 Touring Car that has a 1926/7 drivetrain. Today, while priming a bunch of its parts I discovered that the steering bracket has been shortened. A past owner has sawed off 3/8 inch from the leading end. I remember the car steering fine with this modification back when I drove it before taking it...
Last post
Steven, The Ford script tells me the bracket is 1919 or later, so not a 1911 part.
It probably does not make any difference that it has been modified, but if an unmodified one was handy, I'd use it. I don't know enough about the chassis of the improved model to know if there us a specific one for your application

I have a Model T steering wheel with the solid iron spokes, not the stamped steel spokes. Are the solid iron spokes cast iron or cast steel? I'm thinking of bending them straight to make a racing style steering wheel for my speedster project. I understand cast iron can't be heated and bent successfully but cast steel can.
Thanks, Gene

Some early manufacturers applied paint to their bodies using brushes. I know that Japanning sped up the Model T process later on. But I was wondering if anyone is aware of earlier Model T bodies having factory-applied brush painted bodies.

Just to divert a little, hand brush painting was done in assembly line production for English cars well into the 30's. I can still remember running my hands over the brush strokes and being fascinated that the paint was smooth on my great uncles 1936 'Standard' even with the obvious brush marks (probably due to a lot of hand flatting done). That...

Lookin for a place to have my 1927 Touring cowl repaired close to Grand Rapids, MI

I've been on the look out for a cowl for my 1927 Touring for some time and have not been able to find one, just learned the one I bought is for a 1926, for sale in parts.
Car has evidence of front end damage and possibly the stanchions being pushed/folded over towards the rear, I'm a newbie and didn't notice it until after I've had the car for a...

I’m wondering if there’s any good info on the Allen Coil tester in the new Book offered by MTFCA ? I have an Allen that Id like to try to restore.
Last post
I have restored 11 HCCTs and repaired a few more for people.
The HCCT on Page 9 in the book was my 1st restore and 11th restore/repair with a bad meter.
Bob Cascia did the meter restore and Ron Patterson provided information or parts on the others.
They are both available for help, some parts, and more information.
I am very grateful to both...

My first trip to Pate swap meet it was one row of parts next to the museum. Last time I went you could walk thru as fast as possible, never stopping and couldn’t have seen it all. Great event. Sad when it departed.

Over the years from spare parts received along with Model T purchases I have acquired approx. 30 sets of coil points I assume are used as they have minor surface rust and are not in retail packaging. With a micrometer to measure is there a minimum thickness of the points where they are no longer usable?
I do not know whether to throw them out or...

A Montana 500 Guru introduced me to the EZ lap diamond hone (fine) for refurbishing dirty/worn coil point contacts. This hone is readily available, inexpensive (<$10) and think it works very well.

Bill and I were friends, a few years ago we were E-mailing jokes back and forth on a regular bases. I restored some parts for his early vintage autos and in trade I received 3 of his crankshafts. Door Window Glass Installation

First post
I have purchased the bottom metal channel for the door glass for my 1927 coupe and the channel rubber seal. Can someone walk me thru how to attach the channel to the glass? The glass will be tempered. I assume I should not apply any pressure to the channel to clamp it to the glass, just rely on the adhesive.
I will use laminated glass for the...
Last post
Glass setting tape comes in different thicknesses, some is rubber (using that term loosely) and some may look like fabric/rubber. Depending on the thickness of glass and channel it is installed in, you need to buy the thickness that will not crowd your glass and will still hold it in place.

I’m in the process of putting a much better frame (thanks to Charlie Gagel) under my 26 RPU. I’ve got the leaf springs all apart to paint them and apply Slip-Plate. My rear set has 8 leaves. Is this the correct number?
Last post
Ha! What an adventure ! As I remember, the ladies pushed your touring too. ....,No ones going to look up to the inside of your rear frame crossmember. Just ensure you have a long enough rear spring leaf bolt and put a shorty on top of your spring stack. Don’t forget the rubber or leather pad on top.

My ‘25 Coupe is driving me crazy trying to bend the timer control rod so I get full travel up at the lever on the steering column with correct timing also.
The problem is that a outside oil line from the magneto contact to the left front of the engine is in the way and the current control rod is bent like a wet noodle already. I have bent the rod...

For the factory fit, trim that lower hose, the repro hose sets come with that lower hose cut about 3 long or more.
Factory size is 2 3/4 length , so that the control rod runs under the metal pipe, and away from the hose. Even with an outside oiler on the front plate bolt, the timer rod clears fine.
Have found the Lang's offered specific year...

That is why I suspected it was safe to post the information.
Another family member might still own the home.
I know several cases where the man went to heaven and his wife still kept the phone account and paying the bill.
Then too, an only child often keeps the home.

Is this correct?

Make sure the headbolt threads and bolt head shoulders are clean and dry. Do not use oil, particularly with an aluminum heads. I like 40 to 45 ft-lb with aluminum. The bolt tension greatly increases with heat.

1924 touring car top bows

Are the top bows on a 1924 touring supposed to be flat or have a slight upward bow in the middle? The old ones are arched and the new ones purchased are flat. Just wondered which is correct?
Thanks
Last post
I’ll be using the old bows as they are still good. The new ones are too big in both directions to go into the metal corner pockets. However the same supplier shipped the curved corner pieces and they fit perfect! Go figured!! Now to get everything riveted into place in the pockets. Bet that’s gonna take a while.

I'm following the guide to get my neutral dialed in. The yoke attached to the low speed pedal has quite a bit of play in the mounting hole in the pedal. Do I take up this play towards the front or rear of the car when setting the 1/16? Or do I try and center it within the play range best as possible?

You could have a broken or missing rear brake return spring. The '26-27 T rear brake shoe is a single piece of pressed steel with a single stout coil spring to pull it into the released position, not 2 shoes like most other vehicles. It's almost a full circle. I haven't handled one, but looking at a picture, it looks as if the shoe would tend to...
