Interesting stamp mark on my frame

In the process of cleaning a frame today, I came across this stamp mark inside of the right front rail. I've not seen one before. It's the only mark.
Also, my rear leaf springs have the mark of FORDX an UA on them. 20220113_105224.jpg 20220113_105255.jpg

John, the spring steel was most likely hot rolled. As it is formed, and rolled down to size, the final roller would have the name engraved into it. As the steel passes that final roller to make the finished size, the name would be left proud of the surface. Structural steel beams will usually have the manufacturers name created in the same way....

Buckeye is one of the few places to buy that regulator farther down the page, as it is only used on early 6 Volt alternators.
They are easily destroyed by a battery charger.

Original coil capacitors test 1.5 to 3 micro-farads

I have acquired a number of old original coils. Most of their capacitors indicate 1.5 to 3 micro-Farads. I have checked the capacitor-tester in both the 1 to 3 and 0.4 to 0.5 micro-farad range. References indicate that the best replacement capacitors are 0.47 micro-farads. None of these old coils test in that range. Should I presume that all of...

As an FYI
1. Model T Fords have bands. That stated, be very secure with protecting a capacitor. I understand that most bands with guitars start in a garage where a model T can be parked. Bands can upgrade to the quality caps used in Fender and Gibson guitars. Made of durable high grade polyester, and favorites for vintage restorations or new...

I’m looking to buy, borrow, or take some pans to a pan straightening jig near eastern Pa, Southern NJ or Delaware. Anybody know of one in my area? I bought that ‘24 Coupe that was involved in a crash, near Reading Pa, a few years ago. The frame is toast and I’m expecting that the pan also got tweaked in the accident.

BATTERY BOX LID -- ORIGINAL ?? -- WHAT YEARS USED ??

I have a battery box lid I picked up and by my research I think it is an original and never used. I need a second set of eyes on this to confirm it. The corners are folded around a bit and the hole where the battery cable goes through is folded over. ( Not just a cut hole ) I see no wear marks of the lid being put on and removed several times....
Last post
While the tabs on the battery box lid will position the lid on the box, they do nothing to hold the battery down within the box. A wooden spacer will lift the battery to the correct height, but the battery still needs to be clamped down. Wooden spacers on top that keep the lid spaced just above the tabs on the side will allow the hold down clamps...

I don't claim to be an expert, nor do I have an original unmolested original interior to photograph, but from my investigations, the striped gray cloth was only used on the seats; red stripe on maroon cars; green strip on green cars, and white stripe on gray cars. Every time I see a bowery boys picture I wonder who ended up with their 1914 jalopy. I believe the series ended in 1955-56 and it seems unlikely that the car was not moved on to a collector. Does anyone in the LA area have knowledge of where the car went after the mid fifties. Seems like a pretty important car with all the on screen time it had.

No, her car would have been a Hispano Suiza. But she may have had the model T in her tool box, to be sure that she wouldn't get stranded out somewhere.

Ken is right. Just get those 2 accessory L brackets that fit under the crankcase with 4 bolt holes each that stabilizes the tranny cover, pan and block. I’m at the Dr. office now but someone will list the correct nomenclature.

More of a vent session here... I dropped a washer into the transmission.
Today was my day to install RM brakes on my 26 Tudor after buying them 6 months ago. I opened the transmission to pull the old brake pedal (the stock pedal had a tab welded to it for a different brake system) and put in a RMB pedal. I removed the key, stuffed rags in the...

I have tried using one of the magents on the flex shaft, the type that looks like choke cable. As long as the missing part(s) was on the transmission side, worked fine, but would hang up on the flywheel starter teeth when trying to feed it under.

It appears by the tooling marks and the inconsistency among the teeth I believe they were not hobbed. It appears they may have been indeed cut with a form cutter. That sounds crude and inefficient but that is what I am seeing on the low speed gear that I have. Typically what I have seen in the past with gears that were cut with a gear hobb there...

I would say that TT is pulling a stand up rake. Loading loose hay that high with a fork would be very difficult. Strattling the windrow is another clue.

UPDATE : A Solution To An Old Problem With Firewall Bracket Hardware

I am in the process of adding a starter to my 1916 T.
One problem I see coming up is the level of difficulty to install the firewall bracket nuts,
especially on the side where the starter will be.
I did it once on a '15 T with a starter and it was no fun.
So, I made these nut plates .
I threaded two 3/8 - 24 holes in a 1/2 piece of steel.
They...

Hi, everyone. I have a question about my new project's radiator: the lower fitting seems to be iron and it is badly rotted. I thought a replacement might be soldered onto the lower tank, but I am yet to find one for sale. I am headed to a local long-time radiator repair shop Monday, hoping I can find some help there.
Meanwhile, it seems...

Good advice about your radiator. They can still look “good” but can definitely fool you. Been there and done that. Do as others have mentioned and use some JB weld and some pieces of tail pipe or tubing to fix a decent repair and see if the radiator works.
If it doesn’t you can have it recored for around $6-700.00. Still not real cheap but you...

Robert,
If your 1926 is closer to being on the road, I would encourage you to get it running first. Having one that drives is a big encouragement to most of us. (And one that also stops.) Although it sounds like you may have another one that is driveable? And if so then you have one to help keep you motivated. I would not normally recommend...

Hello and happy holidays to all. I have been helping my friend Bob with his newly acquired 22 touring. I would recommend that you visit a good machine shop and have the surface of the block reground. Just take off enough to make it smooth. Do the same to the head if it is pitted like that. That will also raise the compression a bit. When you put it back together put the head on without any gasket and check that the pistons don't hit the head. The...

David, I applied the same logic to my 1912 van, except that in that case the whole former could be juggled around on the flat firewall. That allowed me to juggle the height and the sideways setting. The hood ended up fitting beautifully, with the built up rod hole 1/4 higher and 3/8 offset from centre. It is not noticeable at all.

I have this switch that I would like to hide someplace in the '27 touring.
Under the dash does not really lead to any place, but I would like to hear some ideas.
It seems that under the front seat might be the best place.
This is for an amber LED light that is mounted to the driver side bumper bracket.
I am open to suggestions.

Steve, I think they lost the plot converting the dimensions of that switch. It's huge if you believe what you read.
Luke, a small push/pull switch, mounted as I suggested, can be hidden. Just mount it further forward and dogleg the bracket up a bit if needed. I find if things are not within easy reach, they tend to be ignored somewhat.

The MTFCI judging guidelines give textual descriptions for each model year of the more common, later-used lamps. They also have two pages with 23 photos illustrating the lamps used from the beginning thru 1912 along with info on the stampings on the lamps. For example, In the text of the guidelines, for 1912 Sidelamps it says: Jno Brown Model 100...

That car is probably long gone but at least it will live forever in a photograph. At least we know about what type of car it was. I don’t think I have ever heard of a Marion until now. Looked pretty nice for a 1909. It belonged to a local Family here in my hometown.
Thanks for all the help.

Run your motor in the dark, sparks jumping between wires will easily become evident. My Dodge was running poorly until I opened the hood one night out in the driveway and saw the lightshow. Had sparks jumping from the spark wires to the headers on 4 cylinders. Don.
