Fan Hub Oil

by

First post
What is a suitable oil for my fan hub?
It seems like regular 30W or similar oil would seep out. Maybe that is the plan and the reason for the reservoir.
Mike
Last post
You should get an order together to allow you to purchase the felt washer. It is uniquely suited for the purpose of holding in the oil in, while applying pressure to the pulley to keep it tight and lubricating the face of the rear bushing with the oil retained within the felt washer. I don’t thing there are any substitutes for the felt washer.

I've been having trouble with the starter. Previously the Bendix gear had gotten jammed against the Hogshead and the starter wouldn't move. Did you replace the low pedal cam and notch? If they're worn, which they pretty much always are, or the pedal is bent forward, it can be impossible to get the band adjusted properly.

if you are using a solenoid like is used on a mid 70's ford pickup, the bolt pattern fits right on the steering column bolts if you want to put it under the hood for easy access.

It looks like it's an original assembly as indicated by what appears to be the original lock wire.

A friend has a problem that may relate to the TT Truck Rear Axle Ratio.

The Jackrabbit Clutch disk pack was the secret, as it comes with 8 thicker Turbo400 disks and only uses 9 original disks with it, or perhaps 10 and they are available.
The main advantage is it improves the ability to shift from Lo to Hi or Hi to Low.
Snyders had a set and the transmission is back together now.

I have just a single stamped steel door key for my 24 coupe.
Are these keys numbered and available like ignition keys?
Are there blanks available?
how would I go about getting a couple more copies?
CF736 is the number on my key..
As an aside, I would also like another trunk key, are all of these the same?
I will pick up a third ignition key...

I was waiting on an back ordered item from Lang's and it came in today, so I added the tumbler and keys along with some other items.
I will see if any local locksmiths can provide copies of my original, and if have a leftover tumbler and keys, I may just have to buy a tudor to go with it..

Based on personal experience that strut is important and should be installed. Installed correctly, it maintains box shape and coil contact. Don't make it too tight (or too loose).

Adam, the wooden battery box was actually the battery case. The plates ans electrolyte were built into the pitch lined wooden box to make the assembled battery. The two hold down clamps engaged on the metal handles at each end of the case. These handles were there to lift the battery.

Because the improved 26-7 models had the larger diameter brakes, the rods were shorter. The lever on the cam was also longer, so the rods no longer needed the offset bends.

1925 or 1926 Roadster?

Redbike » Tue Apr 15, 2025 10:46 am
First post
I just bought my first Model T and need help identifying the year.
It is titled as a 1926 and the number on the engine is from 1926. (140?????)
However, someone with more experience than myself tells me everything else is 1925.
I this point I'm not sure what differences to look for between a 1925 and 1926.
Thanks for any help.

The lower edge of the bottom half of the windshield on the '26 and '27 open cars is curved to fit the new style cowl. This shows clearly in the pictures above.

Routing of tail light wire on 1926 Roadster

Can someone tell me the correct route for the wiring to my tail light. There is a small hole in the area of the bracket, but no corresponding hole in the reinforcement plate. This hole was in the fender when I acquired the car in 1966 and, I assume, was there when the previous owner bought the car in 1953 (price: $27.00, at auction).

Runabout Pickup and Runabout rear fenders for 26-27 are the same, perhaps some early production didn't have the lamp wire hole in the fender skirt. And there were reproduction fenders made back the the day that may be somewhat different. These rear fenders for Coupe and Runabout are the same, factory numbers 40130 Right, and 40131 Left....

If your original photo file is so large that it's rejected, keep it for possible future uses. MAKE A COPY of it and reduce that. Often, reducing the size by only a few pixels (under 5) is enough reduction for the copy to be posted, even if it's bigger than what the system tells you.

A loose hub damaged the key and made cracks in the axle and after some miles (hundreds) it snapped:

I've now bought a brand new axle and need to move the differential geat on the old axle over to the new.
I have access to a hydraulic press, but it seems there are some locking ring keeping the gear tied to the axle.

I have a 6 square plate welded to a thick wall tube/pipe. Screw a nut on the axle.
I made the jig yesterday, only difference was my bottom plate is 8 square. It worked perfectly! Both axle gears are pressed on and ready to continue the rear axle rebuild.

I hadn’t done this in a while and now I know why they sell them in packs of 10. Tried to install using a bolt as a driver like I have done in the past but screwed up a couple. Broke down and spent 3 minutes at the lathe making a driver.

Same here. Always tap them in with a small hammer.
It seems I lack the imagination for a more elaborate method. :D

Jerry,
Wish the jugs had not been “ lost.” The piston appears to be about a 1/4 smaller than the Horseless Age specs and I don’t know how to reconcile the mechanical valves (2) v. this motor’s atmospheric valves. Maybe a prototype of the prototype? 🫣
Cheers,
Rob

Fix for leaky Muncie

Howdy, My friend had a Muncie that was leaking badly from the shift rails. I built covers for the rail ends and it has stopped the leak. I used 3/4 in conduit and the plugs out of a metal electrical outlet box, burned off the galvanize with battery acid and welded together and welded to a piece of strap that was drilled to allow rails to pass...

Hi Dennis,
I have had this discussion with a gentleman that did this very same thing with poor results. After running some time it became very hard to
shift because the cups filled up with gear oil & stopped the shafts from moving. His solution was to have a tube that allowed the oil to return
through the other shaft. I'm sure he will chime in...

If the flaps/liners can be used in 21” split rims why can’t they be used for wire wheels too instead of the small rubber liner? Best John

Dan & all thanks ever so much. Just bought new tires & flaps then decided to go with wire wheels though not correct for the model year. Looks like rim liners it is. Best John

1926-‘27 closed car rear shade roll assembly

I am in need of two (2) rear shade roll assemblies for a 1926-‘27 closed car. That is the hollow metal tube that the shade attaches to and the (2) rounded end pieces that connect it to the wall of the interior. Does anyone have these that I could purchase? I need two sets. Cloth shade is not necessary. The picture shows the coiled spring ratchet...

Eric is correct. Coker sells Hartford. I suspect others may also, but I haven't asked around. I started avoiding Custom Classic because of the problem I had with them splitting. That was years ago, and the split-prone ones may no longer be in the supply chain. I have no reason to try them again as long as the Hartfords are good enough.
As far as...

I have a 1913 Touring that I've owned all of my adult life. I bought it in 1961 From Herschel (Hoot) Gibson in Irving. Texas when I was 18. It had been cut off into a pickup, and was used on a ranch until 1940. Fortunately for me the back half was not discarded, so it has the original on the car. It took me about four years to restore it, and was...

There were probably still some buggy and carriage builders around then. Maybe the traveling photographer had a custom top and a roomier deck built for his roadster to protect his equipment and supplies.
