Some years ago my sister Joan began acquiring Model T post cards to give to our dad. Pop died 24 years ago and my sister tucked them away. Enjoying all of Tom Rootlieb's photos have lit a fire under my backside to dig these out, dust them off and share them. I think there are about 75 of them. This survived into the 1960s on Dad's paint shelf. I tried it to highlight the Firestone on my T tires. It wasn't a paint but a dressing. I ended up using Hyplar acrylic artist paint. It still is on with some cracking.

If I understand your problem correctly, you are making up a shortened driveshaft tube from loose parts to fit a Muncie you are installing. You have a new old stock driveshaft ball end to use in the shortened tube. The clearance at the ball in the Muncie housing is 0.040, which is to much play. Because the driveshaft angle is steeper than stock T...

Do these things first. Check the wire between the magneto post and the terminal block. Then check the wire between the terminal block and the ignition switch. You should have continuity between all these points, however, there should be no connection between the magneto and the battery. Be sure that the switch either connects to the magneto or the...

If you clean up the steel tube of the column the brass quadrant can be slid down the tube so you can get at the column under the quadrant. A simple coil (choke) can act as a variable resistance (actually impedance) in a variable frequency AC circuit. For the operating frequncy range of the T magneto, I'd think you'd need an iron cored choke, similar to the primary winding of the T coil. It would be placed in series with the devices, such as lights, that you wanted to provide with...

Rainer, if you apply some petroleum jelly or some cooking oil on the hood and the new leather it will possibly squeeze in. Only use a rubber hammer when working on the hood. This coming Tuesday will be 6 weeks post open heart surgery for me. I had the works done, double bypass, two valves replaced, a MAZE procedure for afib and a pacemaker installed for a heart block. Anxious to get back to working on T projects. Any thoughts on when that can happen? I'm scheduled for cardiac rehab in January and I expect it will be...

Here is an informative youtube video on the effect magnets have on pacemakers. This is good news for all of us with pacemakers owning Model Ts with magnetos. I couldn't capture more than the title but encourage all of you with pacemakers to watch it!
It's called Medtronic pacemakers and ICDs and how they react to magnets . . .

Hello,
Over 10 years ago when I first put together my 1926 touring I used a stack of washers rather than body blocks and I spent lots of time adjusting the height of each stack to get the doors to open without problems. The washers worked, but I am wanting to use the wood body blocks. My issue may be that my body has had a lot of life, but I...

Thanks Jeff!
I imagine that you are correct that the frame/body is bent.
Here are the height measurements I found:
T3600A Left Front 1-1/2”
T3600A Left Middle 1”
T3600A-B Left Back 3-1/2+”
T3600A Right Front 1-3/8”
T3600A Right Middle-1-3/16”
T3600A-B Right Back 3-1/2+”
Note the center on both sides is lower forcing the frame to bend.
Now I...

Many knew Huff was Henry Ford's mechanician on his first racer, Sweepstakes, and held the carb open when HF made his world record on ice in early 1904. I discovered an interesting solution to the age-old problem of putting a conventional group 1 battery in a Model T battery carrier. Takes care of that tipping problem once and...

How many know the difference between an original Ford bolt and nut and the Home Depot variety. The new replacement bolts that Lang's sells are an exception.

I too use brass thumb nuts but without any washers on both the coil box and spark plugs. When the nut is almost tight, with the terminal a little to one side, I turn both the nut and terminal tight. Most of the time, they stay tight.

Back in the late 1960's, I had a Depot Hack made from a 1923 touring car chassis. The body, I think was a Syverson body made in Illinois. I don't know if it came with an under body spare tire rack, or whether the previous owner added it, but there was a place under the wooden body in the back that the spare rim and tire, slid into.

Some of us have both Model T’s and Model A’s. I’ve hand cranked all my Model T’s but have never thought of trying it on my 160A. Considering the different crank design and difference in compression how hard is it to start a Model A with the hand crank? With my arthritis I doubt I’d ever try….

I have done both and many others. I cranked my 26 Buick a lot in high school. The biggest I have cranked up is a 1917 American LaFrance T-head six. Over 900 cubic inch displacement. I have also started a Caterpillar 60 with a crowbar in the flywheel notches. The compression release helped on both of those. Any engine you are strong enough to pull...

Hello all
Can anyone identify this tool?
The seller that I spoke to thought it was for removing valves out of a Model A, which it certainly is not meaty enough to compress valves by any means.
On the handle it does say “Model A” but that could mean a lot of things. Thoughts? B75BB31F-47C2-4CAA-B853-E264E5718C71.jpeg...
Last post
It is a valve spring compressor for Model A and Model B 4 cylinder engines. The tool in the second post is used to remove the valve guides in those engines. Hope that helps.
Yes, Once the valve guides are tapped out with the tool the valves come right out. Guess I should have been more specific….😊

Thanks for the advice. I have the old ball off and the tube is almost 10/1000 larger than the hole on the new one. I can turn it down to a good slip fit. I like the idea of getting it aligned and on with locktite, then doing the rivets. I will make sure to do it at 90 degrees to make my sons life easier at some point.

On the way to work this morning I found this rim in the trash, I think it has a broken repair crack , I don't have any spare, welding it is no problem for me. The tire on it says 30/3-1/2 oversized, I haven't tried to put air in it yet

Remember to keep the metal valve stem -- it can be reused...
If it's old enough. If the tube is the modern type the stem base may be too small for reuse.

There is no need for a special plug for a remote battery charger. The battery under the seat, next to the fuel tank just sits there. I charge it when I get home again by hooking one lead on the charger to the battery terminal on the coilbox, and the other to earth on a manifold clamp.

Apart from the 0.47 pF, the crucial specification is the capacitors ability to handle quick raises in the voltage (spikes). It is measured in dV/dT (change in voltage pr (milli)second and should have some relatively high values (>400V/mS if memory serves me right) and it is this specification most commercially available capacitors fail on after...

Using a solenoid would not cushion the starter action when applying 12 volts to a 6 volt starter. It would prevent stepping on the starter by mistake and would assure a positive electrical and mechanical engagement. A failure to step firmly on the starter switch, or a starter switch in poor mechanical or electrical condition, can cause poor...

A thin coat of a sealant that would remain flexible would be the ideal for wood. As mentioned, paint or other coating that cracks or peels will allow moisture in, and then the remaing coating will tend to keep moisture in the wood. A penetrating sealant, like thinned down paint, is best. I don't know why contact with steel promotes wood rot, but...
