Headlight gasket installation

I know there are people on the forum who know the trick to get the headlight gasket to stay in place long enough to get the lens and outer ring in place. I'm thinking about small dabs of silicone on the gasket to hold it on the reflector. I had also thought of hoisting the front bumper up high enough for the rear end to almost touching the ground....

An update to the gasket problem.
Thank you all for your suggestions and support. I used hot snot (hot melt glue) on the gaskets and it worked perfectly. I had a bit of trouble with the left headlight not working but I figured it out to be a contact problem with the light bulb. All is working as it should and the delivery truck is coming along...

Just using a bottoming tap will not clean out the compacted carbon and guck at the bottom. The tap will do a great job of compacting it even more. I use a drill smaller than the diameter of the hole and gently break up what is in the bottom. My friend has a generator that is questionable. It has a John Regan voltage regulator but he's not sure of it's mechanical condition.
1.) Who near Michigan would be a good choice to rebuild it, and
2.) What would it take to convert it to 12 volts?
Last post
The fun projects regulators only work for the voltage designed. There are 3 - 6v, 8v, 12v.
If you are going to charge 12v, !/2 the generator output. 4 amps should be plenty.

I wonder if anyone has any experience comparing the operation and performance of a Holley G versus a Holley NH carb? I hear many people say that the NH is one of the best carbs ever made for the T while others praise the G. I have a nice G on my '17 and just bought an NH to try. I'm curious what to expect. Note, both carbs are Russ Potter rebuilds.

I put Holley Gs on my 1912 and 1913 replacing Holley NHs. I like the Holly Gs much better. Much easier cranking starting, better power accelerating and better power on hills. I have since sold the NHs.

I just today noticed a piece of small-diameter rubber hose on the choke control wire, the purpose of which, I assume, is to prevent the wire from falling through the slot in the firewall. This seems kind of shade-tree to me, so I was wondering if I’m missing a part here? I’ve been told I have a Holley NH carburetor, if that makes any difference....

I don't want to turn this discussion into an argument, but when I see a water pump IMHO it's usually a Band-Aid for a cooling issue. Take a close look at the radiator - if it's a round-tube, (the vertical tubes are round) it probably needs a radiator. If it's a flat-tube (the vertical tubes are relatively flat) the radiator has probably been...

Lots of mods, deep sump pan, dash with electronics, think asking was upper 30’s , but hard to eavesdrop with a Stanley Steamer chugging by. ;)

1914 Crank Pulley Removal and Reinstallation Question

by
bpresslylsmo » Thu Oct 07, 2021 10:54 am
First post
I have a late 1913 engine (#369365) in my 1914 Depot Hack with what appears to be a correct narrow snout crankcase (oil pan w/ 3 dip inspection plate). I removed the radiator and fan to provide good access to the front cover. My original intent was to correct two problems: leaking crankshaft seal and off-center cam shaft to front cover alignment....
Last post
You should be able to get the camshaft cover off without pulling the engine unless someone installed a modern seal on the end of the crankshaft which would fit into the groove in both the cover and the crankcase.

I'm pretty sure the cast iron originals were not. I believe they did have some relief in the ring land area. Aluminum pistons required a lot of re-thinking to control expansion and dimensional changes.

Sounds like you need to set the float (fuel) level. You have two choices; with the carb held level in a vise, slowly pour fuel into the bowl through a small funnel until the level in the funnel stabilizes and then begin backing out the needle maybe 1/2 turn at a time until the carb floods (fuel will appear at the bottom of the throttle shaft in...

I started pulling apart the tap and the filter is stuffed. Can I buy a replacement?
I was also installing the rubbers on the door jam. Where do the square ones go?
I have a 1926 coupe.
Last post
Some radiator shops can hot dip the tank then apply ethanol resistant red coat to the inside of the tank. You will have to repaint the outside. Be sure to tape off the threaded reas before the shop red coats the inside. It is hard to get out of the threaded parts.

That’s why I submerse those old transmissions in some type of mixture of solvent when they get stuck up and soak them for a few days. They are like working on an old windup clock. You take your time and lube, lube and lube.

Working on the 27 Tudor and tackling a very insect damaged (rotted falling apart) rear wheel. Getting ready to put in the new spokes but was wondering what the thoughts were on finishing before or after pressing them in. I like the natural look of the hickory so I am not planning on staining them just using spar varnish. I have read around the net...

Hershey or bust was a BUST this year. I tightened up the engine last week and headed out for Hershey Thursday afternoon. I heard a knock start to develop about 50 miles in and 80 miles in I didn't want to drive on it anymore. I had it flatbedded to my friend Ralph and Margaret's in Toledo and they graciously let me work on it at there house for a...

Bummer...
I have used grease when assembling. Not necessarily assembly grease , just grease . Was very surprised when looking into the engine years later, that some of the grease that oozed out was still there! Grease that squeezes out into lube holes, essentially plugging them, could be a bad thing... :(

I will be going through some spare coils this next week and my books on the subject are in another location. My HCCT has a ammeter but no volt meter. Do I remember correctly that cranking at kinda sorta 1 rps will give me 6 volts to work with? As I get older I wish I could adapt this unit to some sort of electric motor to spin the HCCT. Need to...
Last post
I bought the HCCT so long ago I don’t remember the details but it was cobbled up from different testers and rebuilt by a club member. All I vaguely remember is that he moved from up North to near Corpus Christi, Texas many years ago. Now that I know I can use it ok without the volt meter I am not too worried. Would really like one of the smaller...

So I made a quick trip to MA this last week and I always try to stop and say hello to John and Michael at J&M Machine. They were instrumental in the work that went into the transmission of my T. I can't say enough about not only the workmanship but all the checking up on me as well. They are always giving me advice and extremely helpful. Hard to...

Hi,
I purchased these four rims at Hershey last year, thinking I could use it on my '24, but they are a size smaller. They are in excellent shape and measure about 21 inches. I am hoping to sell or exchange for a 30 by 3 1/2.
Thank you

The keys are all the same, they are more of a handle than a key. Easy to find original keys once you know what they look like. Some of the vendors have a repo key available.

In preparation for listing my 1926 Fordor, I have spent the last 30 minutes searching the MTFCA site for the classified ads where members can list items for sale, to no avail. Does the MTFCA have a classified ads section? If so how does one access it? Also, if so, it should not be so difficult to find, much less access. Someone please tell me...

As others have indicated, the Classifieds are a subsection of this forum, and not a part of the MTFCA site itself.

I am working on a rear drop bracket for my speedster and I need to know the outside diameter of the rear spring mount (the one at the end of the axle). I want to be sure that the bracket will clear the spring when the suspension flexes. I don’t have one of the original mounts here to measure.
Could someone measure an original bracket for me?
Last post
Apologies if I used the incorrect terminology. I am looking for the outside diameter of this part, where the shackle bolt bushing passes through. Based on the shackle and the spring, the part is 2” wide.

23" Hayes demountable wheels/rims
by
Allan » Sat Oct 02, 2021 11:19 pm
Unlike other fixed lug rims supplied for T models, 23 Hayes beaded edge rims have the foot on the lug which goes in over the outer edge of the felloe. This requires a relief in the outer edge of the felloe to allow the lug foot to go on over that edge. 23 Hayes wire wheels, and Hayes wooden spoked wheels fitted to Overlands and perhaps others,...

Model T jacks.

Most of the jacks which came with our Canadian produced cars were screw jacks. Two common brands were produced by Auto Specialties and Elite Manufacturing. The more desirable ones have a flip in top piece to accommodate the higher tear axle.
I bought a strikingly similar one at Chickasha, the only real difference being the little pawl which...

In plumbing terms, we describe that piece as nipple. The threads are a different kettle of fish. Most likely the end going into the mag post is 1/8 taper thread. The outside end will be different, and may well be that which has been posted before, but, it will depend on the end of the pipe. A flared pipe will take a different end than one which...

The improved Fords '26-'27 and the nearly improved Fords '23-'24-'25 were adorned with the bedazzling and staggeringly beautiful Radiator Apron part # 3977. Along with the added flair of the fenders and some other minor additions this made the old, ugly Model T Ford beautiful enough to out shine other competitors and save falling sales. Often we...
Last post
Henrietta, my 1925 Canadian car, has its original apron still in place. Not only is it held captive by the radiator studs, it has folded edges that are sandwiched between the frame and the fender iron. To get it off I imagine is a major operation. Radiator off first. Then the radiator studs would need to be removed to get access to the fender iron...
