Stromberg passage plugs

Carb runs great on new engine start, but dribbling a little fuel from the passage screws. They were a little loose but don’t want to snug them in until I ask. Not tapered and nothing to seal on the lip. I am thinking a touch of pipe dope maybe. 91CEE119-B52D-4B5E-8127-80967E763A7D.jpeg 8417E65E-E303-416E-9FB9-80FA983AC312.jpeg

I understand that but the burr needs to knocked down also or it doesn’t have a flat surface for the edge of the small collar on the screw to seat against and seal. I deburred the threaded hole surface and snugged it down and all is fine. The burr was keeping it from seating 100%.

A friend just bought a Model T speedster with buffalo wheels. He feels the caps are in bad condition, so he would like to replace these with better ones. Does anyone repop these or do we need to advertise for originals? I don't see them in any of my catalogs. What is a fair price? Are there left and rights? I am not a speedster guy, so this is new...

Looks like the castings may have never been buffed and polished except for the face. Take them off the car and give them a good buff and polish job. They may need more than just Rouge and a polish though. Some emery and a sewn wheel might be in order 1st.

A Model F would be nice, say a 1904 with a rear seat unit.. A 2 cylinder auto with a strong engine over the Model A, similar to the AC engine, I assume. Not as many around as the NRS series. Eligible for the one and two cylinder tours. Anything 1904 or older are in a special class.

Henry Ford was fascinated with watches as a child. He learned to take them apart and reassemble them at an early age.
Georges Frederic Roskopf developed “La Prolétaire” (People's Watch) in 1867, intended to be affordable by the masses.
I suppose it's possible that young Henry would have known about him and his watch, n'est pas?

I used plywood for the 1919 on my car deck instead of using the wood slats as original. That was over 30 years ago as it was a piece of cabinet grade plywood. I’ll bet Ford would have used a single sheet of plywood if it was cheaper and readily available. Anyway it’s held up well.

Be sure to get a coil that is for points ignition, not for electronic ignition, as the Amperage of the coil for electronic ignition is too high and will fry the contact breaker points.
As you are using an old distributor i asume your car is still 6Volts, most 6Volt coils are not available for electronic ignitions.
If your car is 12 Volts be sure...

It’s just a larger package in the mail

Folks don’t realize that logistics dictate a full trailer goes down the road containing cargo that gets closer to the destination.

I think the higher clearance and narrower tires do help. Smooth tires with no tread would probably help, too.

So, what's up with Birdhaven? I see the Fun Projects website is down...only the Texas T site appears to be up and it doesn't list FP parts nor has it been updated for a long time. I know they had some supply issues and some parts were not available.... have things gotten worse? Is a telephone call the only way to find out what parts they do have?...

If all other vendors operated their business as a sideline, we'd hear and see complaints about them like we hear and see about Howell's, here in Texas.
Is Howell's a sideline?

are you planning on putting a top access cover where the battery goes? My speedster doesn't have one(I didn't build car), so the battery is a pain to get to from underneath.

Hay wagon to Speedster project is a 1926-27 frame with a 1915 theme. Also it's builder has limited knowledge. Questions:
1) Will a Lang's 3640C firewall bracket work ok on a old style wood firewall with a 1926-27 frame without drilling or modifying?

It aint that easy.
1) cutting the notches will allow one to slide a NON STARTER motor forward on the frame AFTER the F/W brackets are removed.
2) The drawing you provide does not accurately show the actual amount of firewall on the inside.
3) The F/W brackets dogleg inward over the top of the inner frame edge. The F/W mounting holes are in line...

It can be straightened with a press & lots of patience & thought.
A customer had a tire shop try to install new tires for him. They pretzelized one & gave up.
I didnt have an extra one to sell the guy. Nothing to loose. Straightening took over an hour to get right.
I started by getting the rim to lay flat, then tweeking it to round.

Nice picture, Herb. I have not seen this one before.
I have not seen any documentation on the individual fire cars (although the shipping invoices should be in the collections of the Benson Ford). However, the photo you posted is consistent with a red fire car. In 1911 the type of film used for photographs was monochromatic. Films of this type...

Hi!
I'm new to the Model T hobby, but I recently got a partially complete car with a coupe body and I'd like to restore it. I'm trying to figure out the year of the body. It looks like its slapped together as the serial number on the frame does not match the # on the engine. I'm thinking its either a '26 or '27 just because of the firewall, but I...

Thanks Les! I’ll definitely be in touch. I think I’m going to assume it matches the frame for now! One time you’re up this way and have some time, let me know and maybe you can stop by. The car is at my parents, just north of Tofield.

Ok.. thanks for the help.. ill put a short hub on and move the top back, maybe that will help a bit at the bottom as well.. even if the bottom doesn't move much it will look better..

Trent B,
Unfortunately, that has been a problem within the hobby for a very long time! Way too many details have been 'corrected' on model Ts because restorers wanted to make their car 'right'. Not many 1914 style open cars are left with their original early 1915 engines as they were installed while Ford resolved production difficulties that...

Adjusting Clutch fingers

So I've been doing some more reading about clutch fingers. When I put the transmission together I adjusted the clutch fingers so that the clutch spring (I used a new one) was 2 inches all the way around. Now I learn that there is also a 3/4 inch measurement taken under the clutch spring as well. Would this be 3/4 if the spring is at 2 inches?
Last post
I think that the clutch disengages adequately because it doesn't creep forward.when warm.

Looking at this photograph, you can see how the bracket on a 24 body is attached to the wood. At the point where the instrument panel and cowl and bracket meet, is where the rivet is located.

Do you have to twist and lock the reflector in place? It seems like the pressure between the spring and the headlight ring would hold it in place. It just seems very fragile to press against the spring and then trying to twist it in place. Thoughts? Thanks..Tommy
Last post
Yes, twist to lock the rectangular slots or notches against the flat flange of the headlamp bucket. The circular spring fingers provide tension to the reflector with its rope gasket to push against the rim and lens to prevent rattling or lost.
The reflector if left in the exit/entrance position will impede the rim rivets tabs from locking to the...

I posted on another of Ignatio's threads that a better process for treating rims with moving parts/clips is electro plated zinc. It is likely to be the original process used. Something in the electro plating process sees the interface between parts acting as a resistance to that plating, leaving the joint free of plating and still free to move....

Hi, I'm trying to get my great grandpa's 1926 Tudor running up to snuff and the Holley vaporizer has a lot of vacuum leaks so I ordered a rebuilt one from Blue Oval classics. Last post
Yes, it would be the air flap. Its between the choke butterfly and the throttle butterfly. In the original I have it is free floating, but in the rebuilt one I just received it is spring loaded at about 25-30 percent open. Should i go ahead and try it or call them and see if they have an explanation why they rebuilt it this way?

2) Would it be possible to modify the left hand shifting kit to move the shift handle further outboard?

Last post
In our RHD cars, the standard shifter is left handed anyway but it is still not much help because the throttle lever is also on the left of the steering quadrant. Rather than make up a RH shifter with all its complications, I added a foot throttle. Dead easy on a RHD car, but a little more complicated on a LHD.

Hello,

I just bought a 1914 Touring that was a neglected older restoration. The last few months have been spent working it up to be a tour car, there is still much left to do!
I recommend the Ruckstell & outside brakes even if you live in flatland. There are many times that I just drive in Ruckstell high rather than Ford high. Its perfect for quiet...
