There were at least 2 versions of increased traction differentials made in the era.
The “Scurlok” was a form of “limited slip” using spiral bevel gears for the actual differential.
The “Bailey” was a true locking style of a “ratcheting” type.
I have both!

A Rajo head will not make a T engine more reliable, but it will expose the engine's weaknesses, if any exist. Can be kinda like asking a middle aged couch potato to run a marathon.

My car was fully restored in the 60s and has been garage kept ever since, however much of the paint on the chassis and engine is starting to flake off exposing the bare metal. I went to 16 inch tires a few years ago.
I get “ all steel “ (14) ply trailer tires.
Usually “ Hercules “ or “ Gladiator “.
An all steel trailer tire is less likely
to blow out from a side impact from
debris - kinds like a “ run flat “ tire.
This curb side tire had no air
but did not separate or damage
the rim....

It appears that the contacts that the harness connect to are tilted, and may be touching the socket housing, which I think is grounding out the harness, and causing the fuse to blow. Are you talking about the connector on the end of the harness or the part in the headlight itself? In either case both are replaceable. and If the sleeve in the headlight is bent, you should be able to straighten it.

John, the photo is most helpful. Had it come earlier, I would not have suggested Quick Metal as a fix. The damage is down to the wheel being loose on the taper, so the keyway, key and hub will all be worn.
When everything is in order, the key does nothing. The axle is held on the taper and it is this taper which transmits the driving/braking...

I’m almost ready to finish my field coil. Just need to trim the ends, connect and solder, then seal with glyptal. I bought a fairly expensive two-part epoxy for use in electrical applications. Ryan: You do not need epoxy unless the coil is loose on the post. If snug as it should be, liberally/brush coat the back side of the winding and coat the shank of the post w/glyptal and slip the coil on. I made a 'washer' out of 1/8 thick plywood a little larger than the post and laid a block over the washer and used a hand ratchet wood clamp to...

I think I know, but I've been asked the following questions and would like to get some confirmations or corrections of what I think:
What is the correct compression range for a good running engine?
What is the compression range for an engine that will need a rebuild?

Thanks, Norm and Scott! Yup. My motor seems strong and happy indeed. A 1913, she has a low head. I see now my misconception of air , the difference pressures at altitude make. :D

So I was looking at the U Joint connection and noticed the grease cup when turned would hit the edge of the ball cap. Shouldn't the grease cup have clearance to be screwed all the way down. It didn't look bent.
I moved the ball cap to the side to take the picture.

Ed, an old time repair is to drill and tap for a couple good size bolts, maybe 1/4-20 or maybe even 5/16. Do a couple side by side where the tooth is missing, and get them as deep as you can. After tightening the bolts, cut them off and grind away the sides a bit. Now braze the tooth profile, and file to shape where it works like a tooth. You want...

Wheel size Model TT

First post
On our 1923 TT, on the front axle it has model T wheels and rims with 4 bolts, on the rear axle it has the usual demountable rims. (6 bolts)
Is that correct? What is the correct tyre size for the front axle of a TT? Should it be 30x3,5 or heavier? Now it has tyres 820x120 (millimeters) which is the same as 32,3x4,73. 2021-03-07.JPG
Last post
A 1923 TT would have had 30 x 3.5 tires on the front with 32 x 4.5 on the rears from the factory - rears could have been changed out or replaced with a 6.00 x 20 - please post a photo for positive ID.

Years ago, one of the 4X4 magazines did a story on an F250 Ford. The guy lifted it way up and put big tires on it, and then he rolled it over and crushed it. He got a deal on a Dodge truck and swapped the cab and box onto the F250 chassis. Later he blew the engine and swapped in a big block Chevy. Then he decided to go full blown monster truck,...

Is anybody running a Winfield 5H carburetor?

Is anyone running a Winfield 5H sidedraft carb? I have one and wonder if it'd be too much for a slightly warmed up T motor?
Last post
A friend of mine is running a 5H on a basically stock motor with a T Fronty head. It’s a sweet running combination. It wouldn’t take much to get a flat head to run with similar results. A little compression... a bit of cam... and a much larger intake manifold will liven up an otherwise stock motor considerably.
The barrel valve carbs are known...

The chief difference I can see between Cartouche kits and Classtique's is that Classtique kit uses power coated buttons (which are nice) and the Cartouche doesn't, theirs are seat fabric covered. The other difference is that the Classtique kit comes with everything and installs as a unit (upholstery cover, padding, muslin sewn to the cover, the...

evening all.
I'm looking to invest in a quality hammer and dolly set (either new, or well maintained used). Whats a good set off hammers and dollys that would be great for T body use?
I'm also looking into investing in an English wheel and a nice bead roller too. Nothing way pricey, but what would be suitable for repairing and making new patch...

Benji,
I have been watching a lot of videos on you tube and this guy is one of the best at teaching how to do just what you need to know. He even shows how he does it on a Harbor Freight English wheel as well the real good wheels in his shop. Check him out and watch his videos. I find it better to set the speed to around 1.25 since he is kind of...

My Simmons Super Power carburetor has given me a great deal of grief and I gave up trying to rebuild it.
When I bought my 1925 T Touring it came with the Simmons and it seemed okay, but I suspect that it has been the source of much of my problems over the past two years or so. I am not interested in yet another summer in the garage or getting...

My original pan was unuseable so I bought another one. It has straight side rails and good threads and is in good shape.
It does not fit the rear bearing.
Murray Fahnestock says to straighten the pan by attaching to the block and using wood block and large hammer.
My concern is will that damage the block. I need to move it a little over 1/16”
Last post
I resorted to a similar process to Mark. On my 1915 pan, which I first set up on a pan jig to check for straighteners, it was perfect when I had finished with it. On assembly, the fourth.main was 1/16+ out. Before tearing it off and having another try, I let it sit for a day or two while I considered the problem, and came to the conclusion there...

Spool is post 1910 because it is 191B not 191. It fits the 13/32 inch studs. The ball is later than 10 as well because the flanges for the bolt holes are thick. But not as late as 13 because the ball has the half moon cut outs for the ujoint pin retaining bolts.

For many years the parts dealers have supplied two kinds of brass magnet screws: 14-24 thread for original flywheels and ring gears, and 1/4-24 for new ring gears. I think most of us know about this, and I expect the folks who make the ring gears soon found out they had the wrong threads if they didn't already know. I could understand using the...

George Mills -- Your suggestion that the error occurred on this side of the water sounds plausible. That may be the reason the buyers didn't return the incorrect new parts and instead ordered incorrect screws to work with them.

Hello fellow Model T-ers,
My new to me 1912 Warren Speedster has a Model A manifold and carburator. Would any of you have a suggestion on where I might find an air cleaner that would fit in these tight quarters?
Thank you for any ideas you may offer.
Steven
Last post
If you end up needing more room between your carburetor and exhaust pipe you could get a Model B exhaust manifold. They are sloped back like a Model T exhaust and you could move your exhaust pipe to Model A muffler connection back some. For more speedster fun you can get a Model B intake and carburetor for more speed.
