What is the closes modern equivalent for DuPont Fabrikoid

I want to have some runningboard boxes made and cover them with black covers that snap on. I think the original ones were covered in Fabrokoid. This is that black faux leather stuff that you have all probably seen on trunks etc that is usually shrunken and cracked.
I suppose the closest modern material would just be long grain top material?
Last post
Here are some images of the material. By the way Fabrikoid was a nitrocellulose material which is highly flammable.

So I dove into an engine/transmission I recently brought home. I found cylinders 1, 3, and 4 have no Babbitt left at the rod caps, resulting in a lot of play. The inside if the block is glistening with silver flakes.... The caps are all cotter pinned, so i dont think someone slapped an engine together with unserviceable parts.
The mains are tight...

Don’t forget, the model T transmission is either in gear or not. It is not a slide transmission like on the modern cars. The pedal has to be either all the way out or all the way in. If you have the pedal partially down and act like with modern sincro transmissions too much you could do damage. It is a matter of habit that you acquire driving a T....

A good place to start on testing your mag is with a ohm meter. Check for connectivity between the mag post and the frame of the engine. You should have a small resistance. If you have connection then verify at the ignition switch as well

Hmmmm... I wonder why most tire manufacturers quit making all white tires in the 1920’s ??? Could it be because black tires were superior and white ones were inferior ??? Actually, I think that is a fact!

Has anyone ever seen or used a deflector for the oval exit end of the cast iron end cap type muffler? Pictures might help. I need to get the exhaust away from the juice brake line that runs over the top of the axle going to the rear disc brake caliper.
Thanks for any help!

You're welcome. You might/will have to manipulate the retaining band a bit to get all to fit just right - it does move the exhaust !

My worry with StopLeak type stuff is not whether or not it fixes radiator leaks, but what it's doing to the coolant passages inside the engine.
Seems like it's designed to work as a clotting agent of sorts. If so, why wouldn't it bunch up in places where you wouldn't want it to?

Book states 20 to 40 thousands., with more gap of 6 to 10 thousands on lower side due to weight of the transmission. When can the gap be to much. I put in a new field coil. The transmission is a non starter one from about 1917. The field coil is a single stack. The coil and trans are now in. The gap ended up at 48 thosands at top and close to 60...

Getting the mag gap is a trial and error adjustment when the engine is on the stand with the pan off. Add the shims then move the engine in the horizontal position to check if if the transmission weight changes the adjustment. If it does go back and add or remove shims accordingly. You can do it also by just installing the flywheel only and then...

Just too nice tonite to sit home. Too warm & muggy for the wife. Not for me. :D Told her gonna take Clara for a drive. (My '13, not another woman!) So I ended up down at the newly reworked combination city pier/dock/greenspace, complete with an ice cream wagon. Of course I just HAD to treat myself. Fantastic night. Clara purred like a kitten. I am installing a newly babbitted 4th main on a 1926 engine. It fits the shaft like a glove. The Ford manual and Chaffin book both say to adjust the alignment with shims between the hogshead and crankcase. Sure enough, with a little pressure on a prybar behind the hogshead it slides into alignment. My question: Is there any recommendation about...

What is preventing my wire wheel hub from being removed?

Mark Nunn » Mon Jun 22, 2020 8:41 am

One of my wheels has a little bit of in-out movement. This suggests that the nut is not on far enough to hold the outer bearing in place. My problem is that I cannot get the hub off the spindle because I can’t get the outer bearing off.
First, I tried to tighten the nut to adjust the bearing. But I could not budge the bearing even with a breaker...
Last post
Mark, the RH bearing should have a LEFT hand thread. Before you pull the hub, try adjusting the bearing first to get rid of the play you found. You will need to turn the bearing counter clockwise to screw it further in.
Setting the running clearance on the bearings taks a bit of trial and error adjustment. First, I like to wind the outer bearing...

To my knowledge, the only thing available right now in the “kits” is the cobra long grain material. I prefer the smooth material used on the open cars. As far as what’s supposed to be there, I have no idea. I haven’t seen a complete original truck with the original top still intact.

Setting up the pedals on my 27 hogshead with new cams and looking at pedal alignment. Have Rocky brakes with a homemade pedal (crafted looking at an original, using a wide pedal head). SO, I know I can heat and bend pedals where I want them, but this is bending against the main spine of the pedals. Also, since reverse is probably the least used...
Last post
Thanks to all, got things more evened up and aligned today. As an aside and a possible tip, I cut some conduit to use as a spacer to hold the pedals up solid against the cams. Made it a little easier to heat and bend the pedals to their final resting place.

Bill, you have done well. That kind of work fits well with doing the best you can with limited resources. Even if you are a bit off, it's going back on a worn shaft, so you couldn't have done much better.

Replacing Odometer Dials on a Stewart Model 160 Speedometer

The tie rod is about 1/8 to 1/4 at the most from the wishbone. I would think that over time it would bend or break.
The only solution I see is taking the steel steering shaft to my welder and having him extend the shaft about an inch.
Do any of you know what to do or think it is too dangerous to let go.
This is a 1912 torpedo restoration....

If the wishbone orientation is incorrect and not installed correctly then the answer to the tittle and question of this thread is absolutely YES!!
The gap between the drag link and wishbone is far less worrisome period!
Please be safe.

So, I patched a leaking tube on my TT rear tire and after I got it back together I found the metal valve stem was leaking. I tried to use some rubber cement and bike tire patch kit around the valve stem and it didn't help. So, I'm guessing I need either a new tube or new valve stem.
Langs has this stem that says it needs to be hot vulcanized,...
Last post
After preparing the rubber, if you're thinking of using them, pour in a packet of balancing beads. Way easier to do it before the stem is installed.

Dan, I made a key for a switch that looked like yours that was correct for a totally restored (about a 1935 Chris Craft) wood boat for a guy in Texas.
I never saw the boat, but the key was smaller than the Model T keys and other wise the same.
A few early cars also had a larger key and a similar Model T key shape with a lower number.
