I am hoping for a HCCT guru to step up also. I though that the condenser had a different purpose in a situation like this, something to do with Back E.M.F. But the modern capacitor may work differently...

The current rear spring is missing the top frame and is a mix of coils as it is. I think someone cobbled it together many years ago. Looking at it more closely I think the top frame is missing and the previous owner flipped it upside down and wired the top of the coils to a board. It worked but there is no way I can justify covering it with new...

I have just received my paint from Craftmaster in the uk. They list Ford Model T black and the later colours. This is coach paint and can be applied by brush or spray. I have used it in the past. Please see the Morris Commercial and showman's wagon which were brush painted 10 years ago and still look good.

That’s great news. Just another instance when engine issues turn out to be something simple! There is the tendency to tare the engine apart and slowly check everything. That’s happened more than once.

It wouldn't be that difficult to shorten the shaft, don't mess with the ends just cut it in the middle remove the section, taper it well and reweld it back together. In the video above there is lots of oil flowing over the brake drum. If you watch carefully you will see oil dripping from the spring onto the drum, it just appears that the drum is not getting oil because it is being swept into the band lining but you can see it running out of the lining, and when the drum is stopped, plenty of oilcan be seen...

I had the same issue when I restored my '14. It turned out that there was an alignment problem with the springs, the hooks, and the holes in the repop hood boards and in the frame. As I recall, two of the hooks, though difficult to lift and turn, were usable and two were not. I don't remember exactly what the problem was or what I did to correct...

I have used an x-acto knife too, as well as a single edge razor blade. What I don't like is the shims are usually .003 which is too thick for close adjustments. I have to make my own .001 shims to get the adjustments I want.

I tried perry Kate suggestion on using a shop vise on another tire for breaking the bead and it worked great. Thanks perry

I tried the Permatex soaked felt on my 16 a few years ago and failed miserably. Then I followed Royce Peterson's advice and put a 1/4 bead of black Permatex on the block where it meets the hogshead instead of using the felt, worked perfect.

Don't wait till it's that hot! Warm yes, at 90 in bright sun light the material is going to stretch more then you want. Plus it's bloody hot standing over that black material. Do yourself a favor, nice warm day, work in the shade.

All three bolts for attaching the roadster rear fender iron to the sill go through the body/frame bracket, then the wooden sill, sheet metal and finally the fender iron. The body/frame bracket has three square holes to accommodate the corresponding bolt shoulders.

In other words, the body/frame bracket, not the wood sill, prevents the bolts from...

My uncle ran a stromberg 97 with a stock head when he first built his speedster. he used #41 jets and it worked perfect. I am going to put a 97 on my next speedster, I have the manifold for it already, and a either a Sherman head or a Z head which I have both of.

I would fill the hole with solder, unless it is now just out of site below the rim.

It's full of solder. The black is just some carbon powder around the cable. I pulled on it, and it seems tight. I now must figure how to install the other connector so the length is correct for the cable housing. It uses a set screw.

Do you have the low or high speed gears? Now is the time to put high speed gears in if you don’t have them. They have six teeth on the worm gear.

I found a nice set of 5:1 gears to replace the 7:1. It’s one of the things that made me split the axel. Good thing I did.

Once the flowable grease get inside the works, it's going to take a while for it to flow out. This rear end has been sitting up right for a couple of months and maybe in the 6 months I have had, turned the drives shaft less then two roatations. I wish I knew what type it was.

Being a former restorer of wooden boats I'm well versed in treating wood rot. With wooden members that are rotted but still in place I very successfully used a product called GIT-ROT . It's a 2 part epoxy of thin viscosity which soaks into the wood and then hardens in 4-5 hours. The rotten wood is like a sponge so the thin motor oil like...

The 25-27 pickups use the same mounting bracket as the electric lights.

Failed transmission clutch drum lug shoe failure has a long history and resulted from lug shoes being formed of metal with the grain structure running parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shoe as opposed to perpendicular.
That problem has since been resolved by the manufacturer.

Mark, if an axle breaks, you just need time to pull up before the wheel parts company. That can be achieved simply by using a centre punch to dump some of the spiggot into the machined rounded edge of the bearing centre. It only needs a little to be effective. It will then need to be pressed off if the occasion arises for any reason.

The car was previously owned for a long time by one of our club members Rodger Florio who sadly died just before the restoration was completed, so never saw it. I don't know if we have any history prior to Rodger.

I have a brand new radiator from Bergs. It is not brass. If you look inside the fluid level is only about a 1/2 inch above the metal plate that you can see inside. If I try to add more fluid it just boils out. My other T is about the same. They reach their own level.

I was thinking of this issue while working on my T this evening and I would consider something like JB weld or Liquid steel, rubbed on the area that is to low and then file and sand it flat. Then 10 years from now,if you pull it apart again,the jb weld will be there to reinstall the hog head without going thru a procedure to reinstall it.

I found the old muffler from my TT that califlowered on me a few years back. I beat and twisted and messed and sure enough, the parts fit right on. I put a longer bolt in the flat peice of metal,a carriage bolt just like was in it,and then installed the parts. That old muffler gives me the end cap I needed. I will order that shell kit next week...

Years of seeing and doing without, I had ideas for my dream shop to include an overhead system to assist me. Since I am by myself about 95% of the time, it sure does do the job. Will lift a ton easily.

What condition are the threads in the tie rod ends (axle for king pins for that matter)? The nuts in both locations acts like a jamb nut and cotter/split pin is there for safety. To lose the tie rod bolt, it would have had to have lost the nut then un-threaded from the end. That's a lot of un-threading esp being the fine threads that they are!...

I will check the book again as I didn't see one. Wasn't this book updated or are we talking about different books, I have the one put out by the club.

I soaked these in hot water over a period of several days. Then used a piece of wood and a finger nail to peal off lacquer coating.
It took awhile but the results was worth the effort.
