1925 fuel evaporation

First post
I have a 1925 ford 4 door with fuel tank under the front seat. I keep having to put fuel in it even though I don't run it that much. I put a rubber gasket between the fuel cap and the tank but that didn't help. The car has no outside leak. The only thing I can think of is the small hole on top of the fuel cap. It has no check valve. Don't see how...

Question on TT Truck spring and perch bushings for rear
Replies: 2
by
FATMAN » Fri Feb 28, 2020 10:30 am
First post
I always thought the bushings on the TT Truck were the same for the rear spring and perch, I know the perches are different
but the T-6 book shows two different bushings and part numbers and prices but no dimensions, does anyone have the dimensions?
the part numbers in the book are
TT-1087 Rear Spring bushing
TT-1100 Rear Perch bushing
Bob
Last post
My parts books make a jump from 1921 to 1928 with none in between. For at least 1921 it still shows the early perch bushing used with spacers. The later perch was made wider to eliminate the spacers. By 1928 the parts book was only showing the one type bushing for both spring and perch. You might look at some of the parts books between those dates...

Apparently the head gasket leak between #3 and #4 was not the whole story. I installed a new gasket but compression was still low. I thought maybe I hadn't used enough copper coat for a good seal, so I pulled the head again, cleaned everything up, and reinstalled it with lots of goo. This morning I tested my compression gauge to see if it's...

Steve,
I looked your other tread about that engine.
On the photo you posted, there is a change in color at the rear section of the engine.
Your problem is there.
If it should be mine, I should take the engine out, disassembled it, grind all the surfaces flat and do a valve job.
After grinding watch and look for cracks, sometimes they are the...

There was a “Tanner Bros.” Ford dealer in Granite, OK, about 90 miles west of Chickasha. It looks like they were a garage for a few years, then picked up a Ford dealership in 1921 or 22:

Thanks guys. Bill, not sure how property values and early car values equate today vs. “the day.” We know the Model K, as with most cars throughout time, get to a point where they are worth virtually nothing, while home values continue a steady increase over time. First post
The suppliers have two types of adjustable lifters, self-locking for 2 wrench adjustment and lifters with locknuts which require 3 wrenches for adjusting.
What are the pros and cons? Are the ones with lock nuts less prone to coming loose?
Last post
I used to use the self locking two wrench push rods till I broke a bolt on one during the readjustment of the valves after running in an engine.
To repair the engine needed to come out and taken apart to replace the push rod. That was 10 years ago.
Since than I use the three wrench push rods without any problem.
Just my experience

Yes the large brake drum '26-'27 rods are shorter and straight because the longer brake lever at the larger backing plate is farther forward than on the small drum ('25 and earlier) shorter lever backing plate.

You also have to pull the pulley forward so the front plate can be tilted out past the end of the cam shaft (at least with the large pulley, not sure about small one).

Carson, if you are doing OK at school, then a trip to OCF for a weekend will teach you more than a week at school sitting behind a desk. I was lucky enough to have parents that understood that. On hand experiences are the best education you can get. Just watch out for that guy named Dallas - he would probably make you take a test. :)

The 6-V halogens and the 50 cp. Bulbs are the one that eat up a lot of amperage and puts a strain on a generator. Yeh, I think you're on track keeping the so-called outer two straps attached at the top part of the boot. This will definitely prevent the ballooning you're concerned about. Because without them, it WILL balloon quite a bit. I'm sure that's why they were designed the way they were originally. The center strap, coming up from the bottom, does a...

I'm stuck in two times, the past and the future. While I own two model t's I work in Aerospace making high tech components. So naturally I like to apply my knowledge to the past. Last year we bought a 3D plastic printer at work to try out, at first I was skeptical that we could find a use for it. After a couple of months is came apparent it was...

ALL clutch disc drums should be a slight interference fit onto the main shaft.

Anyone use a Model A fuel shutoff on a T?

There have been lots of discussions about fuel shutoffs but I hadn't seen any reference to those used on a Model A. No idea of thread sizes but some look promising. Has anyone looked into using one of these? The top two don't leak! Not sure about the bottom one.

If you are thinking of using at the carb as a shut off, there would not be space as you would have to use reducing bushing to mate to carb that has 1/8 PT at inlet. Even if the inlet on the carb was the right size, don't think there would be room anyway. If I install any more shut offs at the carb they will be the inline ball type. I would be...

Put this one in a box and hauled it to the post office to go back home to its Hupmobile owner. Not many of these around. Most were taken off, thrown as far as the owner could throw it and replaced with something else. This one is one of the ones that survived, runs fine on the test engine.
It is a Breeze Carburetor.

Has anyone used the repo tail light with the stop light function that venders sell as just a tail light with out wiring for a stop light?
Last post
It easier to run all the wires up to the front of the car at the same time. If the plan includes turn signals later, do not daisy chain the stop light filaments (the short ones), run an individual wire from each short filament, to the front. In either case, be sure to leave plenty of extra wire up front to deal with connecting the stop/turn...

My '18 TT is parked at my sons place 45 miles away, so I can't go look at it right now. However, as soon as Rick correctly identified it I remembered them on my truck. I remembered at the time when I had it apart (nearly 20 years ago) wondering why Ford didn't just make the casting a little bigger, which apparently was done later.

Bendix bending the stake washers?

Hi all, by what method does a Model Ter bend the tabs of the stake-washers on the Bendix? I find it very awkward and difficult to get to.
-- IV
Last post
Normally a little starting bend with single slot screwdriver blade, levered against the spring loop.
Finish the flattened bend against the Bendix bolt with narrow width angle jaw 10 slip joint (Channel Lok) pliers, opposite jaw on backside of bolt.

I searched for a number of years for a closed car mirror or just the bracket that was available through Western Auto Parts & the like back in the day to utilize some of the open car mirrors available . I ended up fabricating my own to mount this oval mirror onto our '19 Centerdoor & being the Centerdoor body widens out, it actually is quite useful.

How do I shift a non running Model TT with the Ruckstal rear end in to neutral so I can roll it on and off a trailer?

Also, make sure the ruckstell shifter is fully forward in the direct drive position otherwise you will fighting against the additional gear reduction of the ruckstell under drive gearing.
