Need help with Stewart Speedo cable repair

One of the ends of the drive cable (Speedo side) is perfect and formed from the spring cable itself. The other end has a plastic ferrule that is attached to the spring cable and it has been deformed, twisted and has a groove that allows it to spin and is at the end of its useful life.
To fix it I cut a thin piece of shim stock and used that as a...
Last post
This is the part I need. Of the many of Speedo cables I've seen and disassembled from cars and motorcycles from the 60's thru the 70's, I've never seen one with a plastic end like mine has. Someone somewhere at some point in time thought this up and clearly it was not a good solution. This type of plastic is quite pliable and easily distorted, and...

The cross member that Steve J may show a picture of has the sharpest, clearest, stamping I have ever seen. I have had and seen many cross members with faint stampings that even scraped and cleaned a bit were barely visible.

Just got back from our fall vacation trip. Somehow Model T Haven was almost directly on our route. :) And parking for the RV in Iola Kansas was only 12.50 per night with full hookups. So what could I do, I just had to stop by and say hello to Mark and see his stuff again ...
Here is a link to the last time I went, earlier in the year. Just way...

Does Model T Haven still have the Aerocar? A friend nearby owned that car for a short time. It was a very interesting, original car. Alexander Malcomson formed Aerocar (competition to Ford) even while he was associated with Ford. He was ultimately forced out, selling his Ford stock for $175,000. Attached are a few more pictures.

Iwould like to do a clutch adjustment starting at the fingers - then move on to the linkage. Is there a specification for adjusting the clutch fingers?

I would suspect your link between the clutch lever and the low pedal needs adjustment. Maybe the low band is too tight. You should be able to move the pedal down to about 1 1/2 inch above the floorboard before the low band locks the drum and you move in low gear. If the low is too tight, it will begin to lock when you reach the neutral position,...

Does anyone have tips on restoring a two man top. where to buy it and any other information on the installation will be a great help.
Last post
2 man tops are used on the 14-early 22 Touring cars. A Roadster top in the 14-22 era isn’t called a 2 man top. It’s simpler to install than a Touring top as it has just 1 set of bows. ( 2 bows). Touring cars have 4 bows in there set.
Make sure your top bows are in good stable shape and the wood in them is good. Usually it need to be replaced....

I am looking for guidance on using 20 AA rims on TT wheels. I have been told it is OK to remove the center from an AA rear rim and use the rim for TT. Aside from the fact that it ruins an AA rim that someone may need,

Compare the width with a common later hogshead. If the early one is that one inch narrower around the flywheel area, it is '09 into late '10. If the early one is the same as the later one, it is later '10 into early '11. The engine pan/lower crankcase also is narrower on the earliest cars.

As for the lube/don't lube argument about the lube attracting grit, I've heard that same argument from back in the '60's from farmers regarding farm equipment. Trust me, ANY lube is far and away better than none, rust and dry parts will eat up components far faster than oily grit. Been there, done that. ;) Dave

What tool is used for installing seat cushions

Have watched the video by Classtique several times and can’t make out the tool they are using to crimp the channel for securing the seat cushion upholstery. Anyone have a picture? Is it just vise grips?
Last post
Mark-
I did not make a cool spring compressor like you did. I just put the cushion and spring upside down, put a piece of plywood on the spring, and sat down on it to crimp it in place. Start at the center of the front. Measure the perimeter of the spring where the channel is, and there the cord is on the bottom of the cushion. It should be the...

weight of a SHAW TRACTOR CONVERSION

Does anyone have any idea what a SHAW Model T conversion with steel wheels on all 4 might weigh?
The frame has been shortened considerable with little to no sheet metal or body.
Thanks
Last post
Tom,
All Tractor Data has no records.
Google search turns up ads but no shipping weight.
My guess is 2500 pounds.
It shouldn’t be a problem - I hauled a pair of CAT Crawlers on steel tracks a few weeks ago.
Good to talk with you again.

My 1911 Torpedo has a knock, #4 Rod, What's the conventional wisdom, pull the engine so that it's easy to access or do it with the engine in the car? It looks like a real bear to do in the car!
Thanks,
Last post
Oh, nasty!
Do you know where that rod came from? Looks like a bad pour to me. I can't tell from the pictures if the rod wasn't properly tinned? Or bad Babbitt? It could be a loss of oil at some point, but it really doesn't look like it. Regardless, it makes all the bearings suspect.
I always worry about that on my engines. Being forced to do the...

Apparently these are no longer available.
Personally I really like them as I found them to be extremely “forgiving “.
So I’m thinking about making some. The formed leather part is pretty simple. The round disc of spring steel is also simple. The formed spring washer is slightly trickier, but with Laser cutting shouldn’t be too hard.
Any...

I don't call making parts that dig into your axles rude! I call it dumb! I have a number of original script leather seals like Tim posted. As I recall, they started using them in 1925, but I can be off on that.

This single bow was mixed in with the set of four that came with my 1913 Touring.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

Funny, I never saw this on the front crossmember of my ‘23 runabout until yesterday when the light happened to rake across it in a parking lot. Any ideas of when this stamping was common on frames.

...isn’t that the near NOS cross member you found?
I believe it was NOS. I didn't detect any marks suggesting it had ever been used.

The bendix assembly/spring is newer (about a year old but only used for about a month) w/no issues and worked flawlessly before the starter rebuild. I installed the rebuilt starter and it would spin w/o the bendix engaging. I took the bendix cover off, took the bendix off and...

They are less than a hundred bucks more than the set of hubs without the brake drum setup.

Just looked those over on-line, design is for wood wheel. The new emergency brake drum is machined steel with a thick outer, uses just the normal 8 emergency brake shoes , the lined version, inside that drum.
Notes you can add an equalizer and hook up the trans. foot brake to make the emergency brakes a service brake with the foot pedal.

Any connector is a possible source of failure. It is easy to extend wires by splicing the two ends together and soldering the joint. Heat shrink is your friend to insulate the joint. Sometimes I have even cut the existing wire shorter to make the joint where it cannot be seen.

I've watched the videos of past OCFs several times and one shows somebody with a T tow-truck towing a T around. That makes me wonder. How is the correct way to tow a T with the rear wheels on the ground? Remove the driveshaft? :?:
Last post
Until the ignition switch jostles over to mag ...
It just makes it easier to tow, subjects the drive train to less reverse stress without having to pull it over on compression, and reduces the heat generated from said compression...
I'm still trying to figure out how leaving the plugs out when towing it would create a huge oily mess......
