This is not about restoring a car but some of the technology could be used.
If you haven't see one of these welders before you might be impressed.
Check out the laser welder! could that be used on a car part?

Great post, Thank you. I enjoyed it very much. He did a lot of work to that old rifle. I'm not sure if I would ever fire it though. I would guess that old barrel is very weak. Your right, That welding job was amazing. Way past what I could ever do.

Has anyone purchased the new top irons with the wood bows that the vendors sell? For $1040 ready for installation I was wondering about the quality. Doesnt seem like a bad price for the irons and the wood if they are decent.

I wish parts could be purchased. The front assembly irons always rust through on the curve just before where the wood is inserted.

He Bob,
My experience with this is that the rocky mountain brakes nearly not working when you go backwards.
I tighten the drumbrake bit by bit so it was just function in reserve, not more.
If you brake in forwards drive and you can still feel the rocky mountain brakes all seem to be correct.
Any way thats the way I did it, but maybe there is...

I have an early style brake lever on my 1910 T; it has a pin holding it in place as well as a key. I am trying to remove the brake lever from the assembly in order to have it brass plated but I cannot seem to get it off. I've fully removed the pin and drilled it out, I've heated it up and tried using a puller on it but nothing seems to work - it...

I watched a YouTube video on brass plating with a wire brush wheel. Very interesting, if you heat to a few hundred degrees, then use a powered brass wire wheel it transfers a brass coating to the steel.
Since the original brass plating on the early Ford's was very thin, this might be a great solution to an authentic looking job without having to...

It is clearly NOT a Ford, and it clearly has a custom body on a heavy truck type chassis
My guess is close to 1920 ? Location is Salida, Colorado, and the small narrow gauge
locomotive may skew one's sense of size of the vehicle in question....

Duncan and Fraser cured this problem on all the bodies they built using a twist bar. This is a piece of 2' X 1/8 flat mild steel screwed to the inside of the wooden door framework. I have several front wheel wire hubs, but do no know if they are original Ford 1926-27 hubs. Does anyone have a photo of these hubs?

Key detail is the raised ‘collar’ or rim around the backside of the hub. That provides locking system for the special Ford hub bolts. Also most have a small depression in the casting on the backside of the center with Ford script.

The answer is 23, at least in this case. After the car has run a few miles the grease may be spread around to make more space.

Agree that $1500-$2K would be reasonable. It's a restoration project. Aftermarket homeycomb radiator, spaghetti wiring job, rust thru at the bottom of the body (might be bad wood underneath that), missing top irons, etc. The tires could be worthless if old and dry-rotted. Terry

Does anyone know if these are like the one seen at Mount Pleasant at the Old Threshers reunion ? I think that one is a Blue Bird, No 1.

The bodies seem to have the same kind of opening side windows i.e. split horizontally with hinges on the outside as the one at Mount Pleasant.could well be from the same builder.

Not all correct, but interesting. Copied from the internet:
It was on this day in 1903 that the Ford Motor Company sold its first car, a two-cylinder Model A. It was sold to a Chicago dentist named Ernst Pfenning, who paid $850 for it. The Model A was painted red, with a seat that fit two people, and no roof. It reached 28 mph at top speed. The...

Looking for a right side door for 26 Model T Tudor, I understand a 28-29 Model A truck door is the same for 26-27 Tudor. I spoke with Snyder's and a new door is $1,350, not cheap but may be only option if I can't find a used one hat can be reworked.

Dwight,
I have a real nice one I was going to use on my 26 but sold the car and no longer need it. $300 takes it and I am not that far from you.

Can't answer about OCF - for Motor Muster, the military vehicle group I belong to is allowed to camp in our area down by the Cotswald Cottage. I don't remember seeing anyone camping elsewhere in the village except for some folks staying in RV's parked in the lot behind the Eagle Tavern where they park some of the trailers. The Ferrari dealership in the Chicago area is run by the son of one of my best friends. He took in trade a 1919 Model T roadster in nice condition, and is trying to determine a selling price. I've given him my thoughts on T values, which by today's old car standards are very reasonable. Any advice is welcome, if you email me I can send you...

You know, I don't normally do this, but will this time. Black T's just haven't moved in price in years, and given the slow decline in the dollar, may actually be a bit cheaper than years ago. That said, I don't even see a scuff on the pedals, and I do see an excellent paint job, interior and top. The wheels look to be in very good shape. If the...

I have a question on running board step plates my Model T Coupe has had a pair on it at one time the hole spacing is 10 1/2 in across I have a couple pair of Original Ford ones they only measure 7 and 3/4 does anybody have a clue of what kind of Step plates may have been on this at one time that would have measured 10 and 1/2 in acrost
Last post
My Dec. 1921 touring I have had since the 1970s is all original and has holes in both running boards that look as if there were step plates at one time.
Thankfully they are not on the car as I find that Ts with shiny step plates draw my eye to the plates and not to the overall look of the car. I love unadorned and original cars.

Norman clearly has done this before. No car body is as rigid as we like to think it is, a little shimming is always required to get things to fit right. Some naturally fit better than others, and some require a ton of work. Read Norman’s post a few times and be patient

Ford put a built-in governor in all their sidevalve engines in the design of the inlet & exhaust. If you have a stock engine it will run out of breath before it can hurt itself, unless you let it get out of control down a hill, as has already been said.

I would not seal it. We have gone through several best things since canned beer products that eventually turned out to be the worst things since sliced bread . I always use non-ethanol gas and make sure I have a full tank when I won't be using the car for several months. I have never had a rust/other matter problem in forty years. Just my .02.

This looks like the axle gear retainer had worn enough to allow the axle shaft to pull out of the gear. Putting a side load (turning a corner) caused the axle, wheel, drum etc to pull outwards putting enough pressure on the housing rivets to cause them to shear. As soon as the axle housing tube pulled out beyond the length of factory insertion the...

Question on Oil Fill Timers...

My question is in regards to the spring strap that holds the time housing to the engine. Where does that bolt go? If it goes to the front plate lower hole is there a lock nut at the base of the threads on the bolt? It seems to me for the spring strap to work it has to bear down onto the cover, yet not so far as to pull it out of position, which...

Keith, I notice it was on the upper passenger side of the engine, they probably put it up high figuring the oil wouldn't find it's way out...boy were they wrong!

I have a couple of these that were wired to some engine splash pans. There is a stamped L on one. Note the dimple and I’m using my hand for size reference. Any idea if these are FORD ? Thanks for any help. Tmorsher@icloud.com 00904349-53E0-415C-8775-C4CB6F1D8858.jpeg

1922 Center Door "Makin' Measurements"

Making some measurements for wood I do not have. Some of the wood for the car was too far gone to save or make patterns from, so it was incinerated.
I placed the rear seat box and under seat metal floor in place and made some rough measurements.
Hopefully, I'm close. Nothing ever goes back the same when it's taken apart.

Of my two model T's, the pick-up truck is the one to experiment with as it does not have much history before 1963, where it was build out of a frontend of a 1919 non-starter touring and a 1921 rolling chassis.
On both my T's I have Holley NH carburators and they are generally working OK. However, even though I believe it is generally accepted that...

NH being the best Ford carb, that is the OP of nobs that don't know any better  ( I really don't care what the Tulsa test showed, I think they were bias anyway after reading the write up) There are any number of carb to play with, some more common then others. Hello,
Are the running board support bars standard?
I have only seen them in this borrowed picture from this forum, but I'd like to know if they should be on the touring car.
Thanks!

Thanks Wayne, good to know. I appreciate the info. I agree with leaving as original (possibly) but not necessary to add to a car without them.
I just realized that photo is from last years show at Fosterfields Farm in Morristown, NJ Good show of pre-32 cars. A few more pictures from this year here:
Cheers

Hello, I have a set of Watts clutch disks, but I understand that the Watts clutch uses a special, stiffer than stock spring.
Does anyone know the specs of that special spring? X pounds at an installed height of Y inches? or Z% stiffer than the stock Ford spring?
Thanks :)

Doing maintenance today and found that the rear wheels on my 1915 Touring are getting real loose. They have wood felloes with oval shaped spokes. I'm wondering if I should try to re-spoke them myself or, could anyone recommend a professional that could do the job and what a rough cost per wheel would be?
Last post
I have rebuilt wood wheels on both my steel and wood felloe wheels. It is not difficult to do either.
Whilst some feel they would not do wood felloe wheels themselves, if you know how to do them there is no reason not to go for it. The rebuilders are regular humans just like you and so if they can build a wheel, you can.
I won't explain how to...
