Wide track were made for southern roads where they grew cotton. The cotton hauling wagons were wider, so the road ruts were wider. Ford made Wide Track cars to accommodate southern roads.

The aftermarket brakes Norm recommends are a nice accessory you can add later if you want, but for now just get the transmission assembled so you have the transmission brake, and get the parking brakes working. With a runabout you may find that's all you need.

Very neat engine ! and interesting valve configuration, a kind of F-head but with the inlet valve on the opposite side of the exhaust, although actuated by the camshaft on the other side of the block, not like a T-head which usually has two camshafts...

As others have posted, the triangle form (Famous Ford 3-point :P ) inside the cover ....defects the oil to the bands or the screen plate.

Thanks, Scott. This Z head is supposedly 6:1 CR with stock spark plugs No anticipated psi readings were included in the instructions. I should hope the compression readings are higher than 55 psi after installing this new head! With the stock head, the best cylinder was just under 50psi. I was hoping the new Z head teamed up with re-lapped valves...

Regarding reproduction dashes for the brass cars, many seem to be made from plywoods faced with cherry (?) cabinet veneers. Not a problem in the short-haul, but as furniture grade sheet stock is not required to do much more than look good, soft-wood interior plies, often with multiple voids, are not up to taking the stress which the steering...

Hi Tom- Cal Cams was located in Oakland, CA for many years and Brad was the original owners son. They have been out of business quite some time. Their cams were always decent quality and performed well. Although the business is gone, I'm still using several of their old grinds on my cams.

Many years ago I had a Swan intake manifold, less the hot spot parts, the exhaust manifold, and the carb mount part shown in this post. The Swan intake had bigger passages, but mounted like a stock Model T intake, and a stock Model T exhaust worked with it. It was a way to use a bigger 1920's carburetor on a Model T speedster and still look Model...

If you got 2-6V batteries, you can hook them in series and charge with a higher amp 12V charger.

As I say, I am not an expert on these early early cars. I know that the the first rear housing did not have rivets near the differential. They were a single extruded piece of steel. The extrusion process left the thickness of the metal uneven, and the extrudable steel tends to be soft yet work hardens resulting in uneven strength and flexibility....

Well, as usual I'm the wierdo. I love 3 to 1 gears. Had them in the ice cream truck (car chassis) dead stock engine other than aluminum pistons, 2 spd Ruckstell. I love long drives in my cars/trucks, and don't like overworking the engine. For me the good outways the bad.

Royce Peterson has been posting some detailed carburetor rebuilding articles on his Model T Ford Fix site. The February 25, 2018 post has very detailed info on the Holley Model G, and its adjustment after rebuilding.

You might consider turning the gas off then running the car for a minute or two to burn the gas in the line and carburetor bowl. If your sediment bowl valve is indeed shutting everything off, that should solve your problem until the next time.

I have been using 90-140 synthetic gear oil from McMaster Carr. Been using it for over 20 yrs. and very happy with the results....it does not attack the Bronze thrust washer. The gear oil stay's clear and does not turn a Bronze color like I have found using conventional gear oil.

If the Allen tester in question has a brake drum spark indicator, then assembly is straight forward as Humblej said.
If it has the rotating spark indicator, then contact Ron Patterson for details about those.

While we're in the subject, are grease cups with a brass cap older than those with a steel cap ? My '13 has an assortment, no cauliflower caps (good name !) but that doesn't mean much. She was restored when I got her and I know nothing of the provenance .

I’ve recently tensioned mine to 40 Ft Lbs. That figure was specified in a Data Sheet I have and “felt” okay

Your stabilizer is missing the axle clamp pieces, and the base piece for the tie rod.

It's installed like any of the many stabilizers made, clamp the mechanism to the inside of the front axle, then attach clamps from the device to the tie rod. As you steer, the mechanism dampens the road bumps.

Most are spring loaded to provide some resistance...

IMHO, probably the major cause of broken cranks in a 'non-souped up' engine is a misaligned 4th main and then line boring of mains not properly done 'in line' (it is scary how many 'professionals' can't get that right!).
If all mains don't line up 'square' the crank flexes just a bit = stress fractures = broken crank. Balancing can help but won't...

I suggest checking the inlet manifold for leaks, easy way is start the car and while it is running spray some brake cleaner or WD40 or something around where the manifold meets the cylinderblock,

If you use brake cleaner, use the non-chlorinated version. When the chlorinated version hits a hot manifold, chlorine gas is released and will damn...

John, using that tool to remove grease cups makes good sense. Most I have seen appear to be cast iron, and as such will not take a heavy load without breaking. I have seen square nuts holding the wheels on horse drawn buggies, and thought that may be what the wrench was for.

Rig a step-down jig to hold a standard thin jamb nut in a drill press. Spin it. Use a grinding stone in a hand held drill to grind the angled edge. The price quoted seems awfully expensive until you look a a set of these gears. Reproducing them must have been absurdly expensive. I can’t imagine them being available but hats off to the people making it happen.
