Possibly already posted, but with a heavy heart I bring sad news of another patriarch passing. Gary Cooper, one of the last founders of the Southern Nevada Model T Club. He was instrumental in the restoration of the pie wagon. Screenshot_20260119-062125_YouTube.jpg

From ‘Ford Dealer and Service Field’ of November 1927.
I haven’t seen anything else quite like this. A useful accessory if it works. $65 in today’s money. However, The more I think about it, the more doubts I have. The actual bearing part must be shorter than normal, and that would have to be sized, bored, shimmed or scraped to suit the crank....

My gut is telling me it was a 26-27 coupe wood window frame body then chopped off right behind the quarter windows and reworked to make it into a truck.
The seam for the center rear upper panel is now bent to be sticking straight out the sides.

Yep. I wonder if it was store-bought, or home made from an old casing or boot top and wired-on or laced-on with cord of some kind..... . Bumpity bump, shimmy and shake! The tires look a little under-flated, so maybe he had just got a rim cut.

Well, it's not a TT frame, and interesting use of a mating plate to adapt a car torque tube, ya wonder what happened to the TT torque tube given it would have to use a TT drive shaft (shortened as well), not a car ds, to spline into the worm.
Use what ya got!

Another question for the team, when recharging the magnets on a magneto in the car, do you have to touch each magnet individually or just at the mag post? i’m working on a 1925. I have the hogs head off to inspect the coil rings. Everything looks good but the mags are weak. I was planning on doing the flash charge with a DC welder.
Thank you

That rim is indeed a Canadian rim. The give away is the pair of holes in the side of the rim each side of the split. These are there to accommodate a special tool used to split the rim. There are two similar pieces on each side of the split, like T model door hinges. A pin fites between the two pieces when the rim is properly, just like the hinge...

Finding a 55 210 2dr Chevrolet in good shape isn’t easy to find! Lot of those were hot rodded when I was in HS in the later 60’s. By now when you find one they are usually just a shell of a body at the end of the road. When you find one it definitely won’t be real cheap if it’s in decent shape.

Thinking outside of the box:
It's a tool for ease of removing and reinstalling the hogshead using your choice of hoist, gantry, cherry picker, rope, chain, etc. There is an eyelet or hook that bolts to the top of it.
The stub on the right is a handle. A stub is not required for the left side because you can use the pedals as a handle.

The time has come to pass the torch so to speak. I have taught my grandson the methods of babbitt pouring of model T main bearings and the procedure of boring and align reaming the bearings. I have been doing babbitt work for 40 years, but the time has come to share the knowledge with a younger person.

Hi Jack,
That is awesome! Always nice to hear one of the younger generation is interested.
There are times when I wish i would have had kids so I could pass down stuff too as my Dad did to me (he was a mechanic at a GMC dealership all the years I was growing up), but it was not in the cards.

I was in a local IKEA store and noticed they had cocoa floor mats for sale. The mats are perfect for the rear floor of 1910-1916 touring cars and are very reasonably priced. They are large enough so that they can be trimmed and fitted to the floor and look to be durable and nicely made. If you need a correct looking rear mat, this may be the...
Last post
The way they are made today allows for trimming. In the era of the T the mats were likely thicker and the fibre punched into a woven backing. That means the mat would fray to pieces if the backing was cut. They had to be made to size,
Thanks for the lead Russ. We have Ikea here too, so they should be available to us.

There are enough parts to build up some good chassis to be sure. If you’re a tinkerer this is Model T Heaven. Model T Haven sold all parts they had. Could this be some of those or someone else’s. I’ll bet there are good rear axle Hyatt bearings in those rear ends.
Some nice Model T’s have been built up from worse parts than these.

.0015-.002 is what I fit to in this part with babbit, same as for rods & mains.

Spindle with Wear Groove

This is a common 1917-25 style spindle, but apparently a bearing cage or something came loose and cut a groove about 3/16 deep. Yes I know they don't make 'em anymore, but there are still a lot of these around. I just hate to throw it out if there's a chance someone might need it. Is it worth saving?

I contacted the Benson Ford Library looking for the 1915 Runabout Side Curtain drawings, and the librarian said they need the correct part numbers. The parts list they referred me to has many that seem to fit the bill. Could anyone tell me what part numbers I should request?
Last post
As per the Ford Parts Price List dated 1916.
Side Curtin Rear R.H. 6937X
Side Curtin Rear L.H. 6938X
Side Curtin Front R.H. 6935X
Side Curtin Front L.H. 6936X
You can see the Manuals, parts lists, etc. at Cimorelli Model T on line.
The issue with those numbers is those will only be Assembly Drawings. It likely will have the part numbers to...

Who else starts the new year with a drive?
Fellow club member, Sam Atkinson and I were talking when I first got my roadster. He told me that he always takes a New Year’s Day drive.
Who am I to argue?
So today it was a balmy 32 degrees here in the St. Louis area and I headed off to start the new year off in style. The car was a bit cantankerous at...

After more time than I care to admit I’m calling the Mercury done. Got the upholstery finished and that should be it beyond maintenance and the occasional tweak.

Happy New Year 2026,
Yesterday I started the year by rebuilding a few coils.
Now I am out of contact points and can't find any new points at the vendors.
I hope they will be available soon so we can go on rebuilding the coils.
Thanks

Interesting 4th from the bottom roadster. There’s something about that cowl that doesn’t look right and the hood looks newer. ‘15-‘16 ? due to flat LR fender ? And the windshield & brackets are unlike anything I’ve ever seen…..”Hub dust cover ? I don’t need no stinkin hubcap”

Nasty timer.... Clean it up, then try using Marvel Mystery Oil. Apply oil frequently as Ford recommended. One member suggested drilling a small hole in the lower part of the timer to allow oil and grunge to escape. That sounds like a good idea to me, since it would prevent an accumulation of gummy wear particles and fouled oil.

We have a 1916 Ford Touring we are restoring. We are replacing the original engine with a later model electric start engine. So I think I can use 1.0 wire from the 8 volt battery to started switch, and then on to the starter motor. Do I need a fuse? My hope is use the magneto for ignition. As to the generator, how do I wire it to charge the...

John is so right about the ampmeter.
I build mine in an empty coil.
Photos are from a 1912 Torpedo runabout.
The on-off-on switch is for the flasher, the push button is for the starter( I installed a starter relais to command the starter) the other switch is for the lights.
I use a 30Amp to secure the electrics.

I agree with you Mike, the MATCO and Coumbo units are out there and bolt right up. They are easy to set up and I run 3 of them on cars. If I saw a Fordson cross drive on a car I would wonder why somebody put tractor parts on a speedster when accessories were made for that and they tuck right in the front, not hang out the side. If I bought a car...

There has been various interpretations of the accident that killed Ken Meek. Blame was placed on a broken shock absorber perch but evidence suggests that it was broken in the accident and not the cause. Too much speculation has been placed on the broken parts after the accident and not how they may have failed during the accident. Not to mention a...

Early road work and fixing Model T flats

Here’s an interesting newspaper article about early road work in the Model T era close to Waco, Texas. It gives a clue about old car owners and the accepted nuisance of fixing flats. We can only imagine the hassle of going to town and being dressed then having to get out and fix a flat. Evidently road maintenance was still being done by mule power.

When my dad was eight years old his family moved from South Georgia to central Florida, a trip of about 350 miles. The car was a new 1924 T Model. What was surprising to everyone and almost unbelievable, they made the whole trip without a flat tire. Almost unheard of in those days.

I have a 26 Roadster pickup but my question is in 26 specifically did the back of a factory roadster pickup have a embossed back for a turtle deck or were they all smooth I do know you could have the dealer install the pickup bed on a Runabout when new and mine has had a pick up bed since at least 1961 but not sure what it started out as originally

This conversation comes up every few years. I’ve seen both types of back panels on supposedly factory pick ups.
I wonder if Ford would make two separate back panels, when one would work. Seems opposite of Henry’s way of thinking.

30x3-1/2” rims are 23” in diameter with a tread width of 3”.
What am I missing ?

I use to keep track of the grey circles to the left of a topic. This always let me know what was the last topic I read. I look at this forum every day and when I looked for the grey circle to see what I read last night it was way down by a topic I read on 12/27. Four days of stories are red and have not changed to grey. Is this common for others?
