I have orders from my better half for a particular project. It needs a head high stand, so down to the T scap pile I went.
Just two components and I was done. That's a non starter flywheel for the base and a late driveshaft housing for the column. Two magnet retaining bolts were used to bolt the two pieces together. The flange is a perfect fit in...

I don’t know how you could get a “title “ for a Model T from Alabama. They did not start issuing title until 1975.

What can be done is it registered and a tag issued in Alabama. Then you should be able to get a title in any state.

One advantage of a top with structure would be that you could use an evaporative auto cooler. They can be very effective in hot dry climates.

If you look closely on the outside there should be some register marks where wheel lugs held the rim to felloe. The number of marks, and the position of the valve stem in relation to them may help others to identify it. I have no idea.

Original Old Valve Stems

I wonder how many T guys are in the dark about using original valve stems. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of talking with a well know tire guy, and he was totally in the dark about how those early valve stems are mounted to the tubes!
The best information I've seen is from the Model A clubs. Those guys really get in there and do their research.
Last post
Schrader 777 is the stem that Ford used. But none of the repop covers are made to fit them. All the metal stem tubes currently available use the larger size (Schrader 724 & 725), so the available new hardware is made to fit those. I'm cheap enough to buy rubber-stem Hartford tubes and install my own metal stems.

Went to the local Fleet Farm today to get oil. Everything was synthetic or partial synthetic. I finally found 2 boxes of conventional 10w-30 oil and bought both. I do not like synthetic oil in my T. It seems to leak more. Is the conventional being discontinued? Thoughts?

I run synthetic oil in everything I own and never had an engine problem. I have a 17 year old Craftsman riding mower that I mow and blow snow with and even after 17 seasons it does not burn a drop of oil. My model A and Model T seem happy with synthetic oil also.

I have this mid-teens(?) Holley G on a spare engine that apparently powered a saw bench way back when.
My 98-year-old Model T friend was over the other day and opined that it was a desirable unit for my newly-rebuilt '26 Touring engine (Z head, bigger valves, advanced timing gear, TW timer, well-balanced, hi vol intake manifold).
I read up a bit...

RW - the Z is called a high compression head but it's only a slight increase. The chamber design should result in more efficiency and as you pointed out, increase the compression ratio to around 6. Here is info on the Z

Thing is, acetylene lamps (and oxy-acetylene welding) were fairly new technology, only something like 20 years old in 1915. After constructing WWI ambulance project to the Ford plans, my overall height was 81 and the top is permanently attached. Seems most standard enclosed trailers are not tall enought for most Model T's unless the top is lowered and the windshield is removed...

Someone also suggested the white plastic wall panels like in restrooms that will just glue or tack up in place and provide a nice, clean, bright, and washable surface. Its a little tight in there on either side with the ambulance loaded and having a surface to slide against kinda appeals to me.

The issue with the early heavy rods is that it takes a heap more babbitt to re-build, making the bearing thick compared to the better machining of the later rods.

It should be loose enough for the ball to rotate freely in the socket but tight enough that it will not move up and down. There should be some grease in the ball joint. It is quite common for the cap or the socket in the crankcase to be worn or the ball worn down. So be sure to check and correct these things.

When mounting a Jno Brown carbide generator to the running board (on a 1912), is there a bracket that is used (like the E&J bracket shown in the Lang's picture) or does the carbide generator bolt directly to the running board? If no bracket, is there a pad or something underneath the carbide generator or just bolt straight to the running board?
Last post
I installed a red rubber gasket sheet per the base, to protect running board finish. Three bolt Brown generator bosses otherwise contact the board outer raised edges. Im sure this is not original, but you have to go looking for it, so not so butt ugly.

Low speed band adjustment question

When adjusting the low speed band in order to achieve the desired 1 to 1 1/2” distance from the floorboards, should the emergency lever be fully back or fully forward or in the middle? I can never remember and the diagram that’s commonly used doesn’t state the position for adjusting the low band nut.

Tim, it might be time to do a couple of checks. If you have way more than 1 1/2 free play in the pedal it may be time to pay some attention to the pedal ramps. Otherwise, it may be beneficial to heat up the low pedal and drag it back a bit. it may well have been bent some in years of prior service. Both these conditions are sometimes worked around...

Does anyone know the secret of replacing a Garmin Battery?
I just found a battery on Amazon for my Garmin.
It came with instructions and everything, even a tool to remove the Torx Screws.
There was also a blank disk with it that I was supposed to insert and follow the directions for a download from someplace.
The disc appears to be blank and...

Frank, thanks for the lead!
I don't trust that company or the other one enough to use them.
I don't see why I was not sent the correct battery with the directions, as the Amazon ad said I would be buying either.

I learned something today. Among the assorted wheel bolts and loose lugs I have accumulated over the years, there have been a few longer bolts and a few U shaped loose lugs which were wider than the usual ones on our Canadian sourced Kelsey loose lug wheels. Parked next to me today at an old car event was a Dodge with 21 split rim wheels with the...

The other day, I tried to push some grease into the left rear Hyatt bearing on my 13, and it wouldn't take any. So, I pulled the grease cup to find a blockage. Thinking the old bearing sleeve slipped/rotated, I pulled the wheel only to find that a floating hub had been installed in the left rear - and only the left rear.
Now, I'm not a fan of...

Jerry, the wheel /spiggot is fitted first without the key. Then the grub screw is tightened to hold it in place, before removing the wheel to fit the key. Mine are floating hubs, not safety hubs.

Here’s a photo from the Waco, Texas centennial celebration (1849-1949) of a misidentified Model T. The caption says it’s a 1913 but it’s a 17 -19 Touring I think and looks to be about used up! Anyway you can tell if you can get past the watermelons! The melons came from just north of Waco from Gholson. It’s about 10 miles from Waco and had several...

Back in the 1970's when I was still working, we grew some watermelons in the yard. I had so many, I took a few to the office to give to anyone who wanted them. Can anyone tell me what rods these are?
I am sure top one is part # 6299, vaporizer pull rod , roadster, touring, coupe.
What is bottom one? Is it # 6300 for Fordor or
# 6298 for all cars 1925.
Almost the same except the turned 180 degree end.
Any ideas? Thanks Dan

It spent its entire life in East/Central, Pennsylvania and was owned by Carl Rustine of Stroudsburg, PA from 1953 until just a few years ago when he passed. I have a brass L-4 Kingston that needs new plates & shafts. The shafts where made from copper tubing & the plates made from body washers.
I see from the parts books that the throttle & choke are the same part #. This throttle plate is 1.060 but the choke plate is 1.125 . Are the NH
plates 1.125 ? I don't seem to have a NH in all of my carbs....
Last post
You can use an NH throttle shaft and plate in an L4. Brass one uses the long arms. The choke shaft is larger diameter and the lever part is different, choke plate is larger.

Most mirror mounts for closed cars of the era used what looks like a toilet paper roll holder & utilizing the common open car mirror - I fabricated this mount.

23 Coupe? Not taking it to dinner and a movie, i wanna know how old it is. The engine is stamped with 8077073 which makes it July 23? The other number is just inside the passenger door on the metal that is next to the wood floor. That one is 3890738.

Kerry (Frank v E) hits the main point. The style change made at that point is often debated about the year model of cars made in the latter part of 1923. And, the coupe is the worst of the lot because of its significant and early changes. Some areas of the assembly process began producing 1924 style cars earlier than others. And the new style...
