Randy, I use a tick I learned when building fixed wooden tops having thin laths to support the canvas covering. I use the same laths to hold the bows in position while the straps and pads are fitted. I clamp them to the bows while adjusting their position, and once set, you can nail them to the underside of the bows and continue to work with the...

Scott, you might check that there is just one gasket in the ball joint assembly. It goes between the back of the hogs head and the ball cap. Some mistakenly fit a gasket on both sides of the ball cap, thus opening up the gap between the ball and the retaining cap holding it in place. This will exaggerate the same problem that a worn ball will...

Does anyone sell or has anyone made silicone valve cover gaskets? You can get them for aircraft and they are nice when you want to be able to remove and reinstall the cover without a lot of hassle. Mine were taken off to get at the valves on a tour a couple of weeks back and I need to install new ones (oil leak.)
Last post
Dick-I've had them on my C85 for over 20 years. Also used them on a big 0-470 and LYC 0-320. No leaks-reused over and over. I think you could get away with gluing one side to the valve cover of a T- I'd just leave the mating surface clean.
I'm going to have to think about this one before proceeding...lots of good suggestions.

I know all the issues that studs bring. Had them on a few Model A engines and all of my V8 Flatheads. Repairs become a huge hassle.
I glue them in to give the coarse threads more purchase. The gasket shellac works well for that, and is easier to get free than Loctite.

Pete, I think someone has altered the distributor you have. The logo on the condenser is MC not the AB devil's head. The second major difference is the points are set up to rotate counter clockwise and the tip on the came shaft is 100% different. Not sure which picture Hank was referring to.

Yes there is Paul! BJ Miller and a few other folks picked it at the last moment. I believe it's in Heath, OH. I guess I better make sure for certain, since I plan to be there!

I’m not sure what year this head is from but I put it on my 14 since it had a high head when I got it. I don’t know how to look up old threads but it seems like the 1913 heads have Made in USA and square marks, something about the way the metal was poured into the mold and later heads had the round raised areas. I have had a very spiffy vintage Rochester, NY auto club insignia on the lower front of my Berg radiator since I installed it in 2017. To attach my Ford insignia I took two of the long skinny bolts (machine screws) that Langs sells, wired the Ford to the heads, covered them with thin shrink tubing and slid them between the fins of my new Bergs radiator. Since you posted your mag ring it does look like the insulation is hard and brittle which means age and heat has caught up with it.

If it’s actually brass .. polish the brass first. Then make a paste of silver nitrate, calcium carbonate and either potassium cyanide or sodium thiosulfate. Rub this onto the brass and it will deposit pure silver.

The fan pulley has about 3/16th in and out play on it. I just rebuilt it last winter with all new and fitted parts. I would like to remove it to find out what’s going on. Can I sneak the pulley by the radiator without removing the return neck? Or do I have to drain the antifreeze and remove everything?
Thanks

I checked the adjusting bolt and it’s tight. So tomorrow’s job it’s off with the fan :D

I am enjoying the U&J carburetor recently rebuilt by Stan. Love the 0-30 mph range. The only fault I have experienced is in the upper end. Seems to sputter when I’m in the 35-40 mph range. Took a drive out in the country for extended periods today and never felt like the car was ever able to run smoothly while cruising at 35-40. Is there some...

I was rebuilding some coils for a friend the other day and found this inside one of them. I thought it was really neat. I put it right back where I found it when I got done. I left the nails out so I could show it to him when I give them back.

One of my favorite photos is this Indian motorcycle conversion for track use. It shows the ingenuity and genius of tinkerers of that era.

I can't help thinking what a waste of an Indian motorcycle . But then that's what I think every time I see a cut down T, or tractor conversion, or speedster. ;)
If all were kept then they wouldn’t be special today.

This one was free. It matches my Son's roadster and my Tudor perfectly.
I'd like to find one that looks just like that for my weathered 24. I see them like that on eBay but those folks must think they have something personally used by Abraham Lincoln based on the prices they're asking. I'm more interested in something that someone...

Had a great morning with the 1920 Roadster. I had the top up, then folded it down so that I could roll the T under the carport.
All was going well when I couldn't figure out why the T wasn't rolling any more.
Looked up and realized I hadn't folded the windshield, either.
The carport doesn't have much give.
Off to the glass guy this morning...

This is not about restoring a car but some of the technology could be used.
If you haven't see one of these welders before you might be impressed.
Check out the laser welder! could that be used on a car part?

Great post, Thank you. I enjoyed it very much. He did a lot of work to that old rifle. I'm not sure if I would ever fire it though. I would guess that old barrel is very weak. Your right, That welding job was amazing. Way past what I could ever do.

Has anyone purchased the new top irons with the wood bows that the vendors sell? For $1040 ready for installation I was wondering about the quality. Doesnt seem like a bad price for the irons and the wood if they are decent.

I wish parts could be purchased. The front assembly irons always rust through on the curve just before where the wood is inserted.

He Bob,
My experience with this is that the rocky mountain brakes nearly not working when you go backwards.
I tighten the drumbrake bit by bit so it was just function in reserve, not more.
If you brake in forwards drive and you can still feel the rocky mountain brakes all seem to be correct.
Any way thats the way I did it, but maybe there is...

I have an early style brake lever on my 1910 T; it has a pin holding it in place as well as a key. I am trying to remove the brake lever from the assembly in order to have it brass plated but I cannot seem to get it off. I've fully removed the pin and drilled it out, I've heated it up and tried using a puller on it but nothing seems to work - it...

I watched a YouTube video on brass plating with a wire brush wheel. Very interesting, if you heat to a few hundred degrees, then use a powered brass wire wheel it transfers a brass coating to the steel.
Since the original brass plating on the early Ford's was very thin, this might be a great solution to an authentic looking job without having to...

An acquaintence has asked me for help identifying the vehicle in the above photo.
It is clearly NOT a Ford, and it clearly has a custom body on a heavy truck type chassis
My guess is close to 1920 ? Location is Salida, Colorado, and the small narrow gauge
locomotive may skew one's sense of size of the vehicle in question....

Duncan and Fraser cured this problem on all the bodies they built using a twist bar. This is a piece of 2' X 1/8 flat mild steel screwed to the inside of the wooden door framework. To pull the bottom of the door inwards, the front end of the bar was screwed down and the bar was twisted so that the top edge at the back end touched the timber, but...

Much appreciated!

I could spend the next year searching for specific details on specific tools that were offered in 1913 or 1914.
