I finally got around to installing the Stromberg OF I bought from Bruce Compton at Hershey two years ago. It had been an older restoration by Stan and when he saw a picture of it, offered to update the plugs to how he does them now. So, it’s been around the block.
I did the preliminary adjustments over again since I wasn’t sure if they had been...

Hey Stan,
Don’t ask me questions ... get back to that U &J rebuild of mine. LOL .. Just kidding. Here’s the thing, I actually have a vintage copy of the Stromberg OF booklet but for the life of me I can’t find the damned thing. So, I’ll keep digging. I like to do my own adjustments so that I understand what’s up. So even though you sent it to me...

I am trying to help a friend who is looking at a 1909(?) touring. The car is an older restoration (50's?). The engine number is supposedly a 3000 number, but the photos he sent make it look like it could possibly be an 8000 number were the 8 was weakly stamped on the left side. The data plates on the front of the seat riser look like reproductions...

Tod W, A couple other things I think I know. You did mention the touring car's rear door handle position. Another thing is the data and serial number plates. They changed I think (something else I am not completely sure about?) a couple times during 1909 model year. The first few hundred cars had the pre-T (NRS) style serial number plate nailed to...

I am in the process of restoring the firewall on my 13 Touring and under the coil box it has Syverson Cabinet Company Des Plaines Ill. I went to the internet and it showed they moved but no date of when the move took place. I was just trying to get a idea of when this fire wall could have been made.

Over the years I have read a lot of posts talking about exhaust nut wrenches. How important is it to have one?
In the 8 to 10 years I have had my T, I have never had an issue with this nut. The previous owner started a frame off restoration. Rebuilt the engine, had it back on the chassis and the exhaust hooked up. That is where he quit. He never...

I got a large Harbor Freight (24 inch) adjustable wrench with a 20% off coupon a few years ago.
It is tight but fully open it fits the exhaust nut.
If the nut is rusty I use a flat file to clean it up before using the wrench.

The repro 'outer sleeves' for the TT rear axle are pretty good. However they do not come with the grease cup hole or the locating dimple in them.
What do you do?
Well, marking where the grease cup hole should go and drilling it to size is easy enough when you use an old sleeve to locate the hole correctly. You actually need that hole to use the...

My experience drilling the sleeves for the grease holes was difficult. I burned up over one bit per hole, and they were the hardened bits.
The dimples were easy, just build up a little stick weld, not enough to distort the inside of the sleeve, then file the weld down to a dimple.
Also, I had the sleeves held in a vice to drill and a couple of...

James, effectively that part extends the length of the throttle shaft. It also allows the linkage to be rotated on the shaft for a different orientation. On US made carburetors for model Ts that are fitted to RHD cars, the linkage has to be repositioned. This is usually easily accomplished, as the throttle arm is usually just clamped to the shaft...

Dan from my understanding the rails on the later frame are shorter due to the way the later crossmember is riveted to the rails. The earlier frame rails are longer. The riveted 3 piece gears are more problematical to balance. Not all pieces are perfectly centred before the gears are cut. Removal of old silicone used used a gasket
by
Dennis_Brown » Sat Feb 23, 2019 10:40 pm
When you separate parts that have silicone used as a gasket there is always a film left.Spray the surface with brake clean and it will loosen up and you can scrape it off. I am not a purist but really helps seal things, especially in an emergency but we all know Model T,s never brake down on the road away from home.

I have always used a piece of 3/8 pipe with a round steel rod that slips inside. Drilled a hole in the side of the pipe and welded a nut on the outside so I could lock the rod inside it when I expanded it between the front inside of the tires on the sidewall. Place it about 1/2 way up the tires, lock it in place and then place it inside the tires...

I would like to put Rocky Mountain Brakes on my 23 coupe. Who's should I buy?
Last post
I'm very biased on this subject. I prefer the genuine item made in the '20s, mainly because of the simplicity and the ease of operation. There are no holes to drill or special tools to install them, and they work backing up too. There are no rods, just a simple pulley/equalizer for braking with a cable.

Why did you take it down? Was the clutch mis-operating? If it was working OK you could just put it back together and leave it as is. If it was not working well, you must then find out why. normally the clutch disk which fits the inside of the brake drum is toward that plate and the plate turns with that last disk, so no moving parts except the...

The transmission book states to replace the triple gear pins if they have 0.005 wear. The pins measured 0.677, 0.677, and 0.675.
What is your thought on the 0.675 pin. Replace or keep? If I replace should all 3 be replaced to have the same OD for new bushing reaming .

Hi Rob, Wow it just keeps getting more and more exciting. Drop box doesn't work on my old computer, so I'll have to imagine for now. I can't wait to see it in Nebraska. Also hearing about the 999 racer going 104 oooeee, Henry had some big ones. The numbering of the prints or racers is also interesting in that ,that is how the Lincolns are numbered...

Venting rear diff

I am wondering if you need to add a vent to the rear axle tube when going to a modern pinion bearing setup, they say that one or more of the bearings are sealed and I am thinking that I need to add a vent. This could be a dangerous move but what do you think?

I had a similar experience as Roy Stone. I saw a small bubble as I was removing the plug. Drilled the plug and installed a vent line that runs up to the frame.
I also had thought of a vacum line when a rear axle seal started to leak but redoing the seal and lowering the fluid level has resolved that problem.

You guys have been awfully quiet on this subject which means, in highly technical speak, it must be working.

I'm replacing the shaft and slow speed pedal notch in my 26 hogshead. Can I get some input on the best way to install the notch pin and pedal pin. There isn't much real estate to work with in there and I don't want to break anything.

I'll likely install my spare '25 engine when I get back from Chickasha and am starting to realize that installing it with the rearend/torque tube in place might not be the easiest thing to do. And by that, I mean making the u-joint slide into place while manhandling the engine into its proper location.
After all the hassle I went through getting...

I've done it without help in a similar way of that described by Steve Jelf, however, I used a ratchet strap to support the drive shaft tube. The ratchet gives you an easy way to adjust height, and enough flexibility in case you need to sort of wiggle things into place.

Way back works good! I just hunted down and saved the bits from the classifieds when I got my 3 T's and parts on Aug 02 2016!
That was pretty fun to see again!
BUT. Who's been saving the internet everything since 1996 to the internet archive? ALEXA Internet and ALEXA Crawls. Yikes.

Wonderful photo! It is hard to tell for certain without computer capabilities I do not have, but it looks to me like that car has 30X3.5 front tires and wheels. So, I wondered, if it could be a Canadian T? Zooming in closely (thank you Chris and Jeff, et al for a good new format!), I can clearly see that there are no hinges on the front driver's...

This is the time of year when movies that have finished their first run return to the theaters because they've been nominated and people who missed them before want to see them. It’s to bad the Oscars and Emmys have gotten so politicized and out right crude. We quit watching them a few years ago. A few really good movies do come out but the majority are not even close.
If you wait a year or so or sooner you see some of the lesser known or not nomited movies show up on cable or sattilite. Some are really good but you...

Concerned About U-Joint Pin

I installed a new u-joint as part of my axle/torque tube rebuild and with it, a new pin to secure it to the driveshaft.
I used a punch and hammer to peen the pin on both sides but I never really got it peened the way I wanted it to be. It's good mind you, but not perfect.
I'm wondering how much damage this will do if it comes undone and slings...
Last post
I've read other posts on this forum that you should lay the pin over an open vice with pin ends supported. Then strike the center of the pin to give it a slight bend. That helps hold the joint rigidly. I have not don't that yet but I will when weather permits.

My 15 runabout has a steel hood.
Would the 15/16 steel hoods have these plates?
They don't seem to be needed.
I can see them on an aluminum hood because it is softer and could wear.

This comes from a non-starter hogs head I am using on a '17 restoration. I am wondering if anyone has seen this type of clutch shaft arrangement. I have 6 hogs heads in the collection and they are all riveted. Anyone know if it's factory or maybe a clever mod? IMG_0017 .JPG.png
Last post
I think this was changed to the riveted style somewhere around the same time the reinforcing ribs were added to the aluminum hogsheads. There might be a length difference in the clutch arm and the clevis loop on the low pedal between this early of a transmission cover and ‘17. Double check you have appropriate travel and the linkage doesn’t...

I've found that the cap with removal tool makes the stem too tall for the big cap. So, I have one only on my spare tire.
By the way, this reminds me of a good little Trivia question - which I got from CarTalk:
There is a part of your car that is exactly the same as it was when it was first made, which was well before there were automobiles. It...
