I know that IAT (Inorganic Acid Technology) coolants are best for our Model T's. Can anyone recommend a good brand that you've found to be readily available? I usually buy 50/50 mix for convenience but am not averse to mixing my own if need be.

If your coolant appears discolored and has crud in it that might be a good sign a flush is in order. My T is registered as a '24 most likely due to the rear of the head has being stamped 3 24. However, the engine number seems to fall with in May of 1925. My question is to the left of the water inlet is stamped M1 , does anyone know what this means?

Here's the rear seat box minus the rear board as I don't know the height of it yet.

Also, here's the driver's seat back rest and frame. I have to cut off the screw bolts and replace two of the nuts with square ones.

I’ve been to Chickasha several times and always on Friday and Saturday and the official fliers say that those are the days of the swap meet. But I see a lot of references to people saying they’re going to be there Thursday morning.

Another thing to consider, is the bell crank. The 1925's used the bell crank up until around April, and then switched to the 1926 style. However, the two holes for it are still there. For those who are unfamiliar with the installation of the patent plate, they use the same exact rivet used for the hood lacing.

I toured the River Rouge assembly and steel plants in about late 1965. They were building Mustangs, and the steel plant was hot! A great experience. I'm glad that I did it. I drove from Massachusetts to Detroit (Yup, I mean Dearborn) specifically for that purpose. A wonderful memory. BTW: Spel check wanted to change Dearborn to Airborne.

I drained my oil this evening and this part came out with the old oil. Had to wiggle it to get it through the hole. I've had a brass rivet and some small pieces of metal come out with the oil before but never seen anything like this. It looks like hardened steel, maybe a bushing? Bearing race? Good point on the magnetic plug. I have one, and this chunk was waiting at the drain without much sign that it's been grinding through the gears. I also have a magnet in the transmission screen. It found the tail of the zip tie I dropped while replacing the bands-- the little metal ratchet was enough metal to catch it.

I think there are some T people located in or around the MO. River flood plain. Another Major flood is going on, a dam on the Niobabra River in NE.upstream from the Gavins Point Dam at Yankton SD. failed, just one of many problems. Lots of damage all along the river. I hope everyone is safe. Dave

Gavins Point increased releases to 100,000 cfs for a time to evacuate the Niobrara flood waters. The Gavins Point reservoir was at records levels even with the next upstream dam, Ft Randall, reducing releases to zero. The engine is new, transmission rebuilt with watts clutch, rebuilt rear end, engine idles well on battery or magneto. First gear and reverse seem to work normally.

Going from low to 2d gear the entire engine shudders and refuses to smooth out in spite of feathering the clutch. Clutch fingers are adjusted correctly.

I have had my '14 Touring for over 10 years and when I got it the previous owner told me that he had completely redone the rear axle so other than checking periodically for play I have not done anything to it. It has Rocky Mtn. brakes but the previous owner did not put the Ford service brake drums back when they were added. I thought that was odd...

In the State of Virginia, if one is going to use a vehicle for daily driving , it has to be inspected. That is the law and I approve. If a vehicle is over 20 years old one can put antique tags on it and skip the inspection, but that vehicle can not be used as a daily driver.

Been doing this for some time of various set backs and outside relocation. By making the bell crank and removing the handle/ratchet at the original location anything is possible from there. Look for yourself.

One more thing. My 27 has the headlight bar. I really don't want to remove it because to do so will break the paint on the bolt heads and possibly the fenders. I can't see how I can remove the engine trans assembly without removing the bar. Am I correct on this??

Thanks for the help. The engine is out in the stand. I used an eye bolt in the second cylinder and a straight bar in place of the crank handle to tilt
the engine some to clear the pedals. It wasn't exactly an easy job but it is doable. Part of the difficulty was separating the Warford from the transmission. The light bar came out pretty easy...

I have been helping a mate to get his T running again after a five year lay-off. The car gave him lots of grief on a 5 day rally with gunk in the fuel system, so the tank was removed, thoroughly cleaned and given the three step POR 15 tank treatment. I spent some time looking for how much to cut off for installing without the coupler, best I could find was 12+ inches.
I know that some weld up the input shaft on the 3 cast iron 3 speed and mill it to size to fit the tail shaft on the transmission.

I'll disagree partially with Larry. While 777 and 888 are correct, 724 and 725 will work on a T even though they're larger and not correct. How do I know? Because my 1915 is currently wearing them. Nobody will know unless they take the covers off. :)

I rebuilt my Ruckstell and was careful to use sealant, but still have a small oil leak. It is really hard to find oil leaks because they are hard to see. I found mine by puffing colored chalk dust, the kind use for chalk lines, over suspected areas of the differential. The leaking oil washes away the chalk dust so that it is easy to see. I washed...

I built a rotisserie to assist in doing all the welding, painting, etc that I need to do on my various projects. I built it from 1/4'' wall steel pipe, 1200 lb capacity casters and my MIG. I purchased a magneto horn several months back. I was a able to test it this morning. It was making a noise, then went silent. I kind of figured it would have to be rebuilt when I got it.

Magneto horns need to be tested and adjusted with AC power, not DC. An old electric toy train transformer or door bell transformer works good.

I made an attachment for my old 9 South Bend lathe that looks remarkably like that. It was anchored in my milling attachment for adjustment and bolted to the cross slide with a boring bar placed between centers. It worked so well that I did the rods in a 1934 model B engine several times......by making mistakes. Finally got 'em though.

these large manhole oilers have 1/8 pipe thread any idea what it was used on also duel elbow either vacuum or fluid elbow kooks like would be for old windshield wipers but no idea, cleaning tons of items up that have been buried for years

I am in NW Florida, in Pensacola, looking for a quality shop to rebuild my '24 engine. It needs a valve job and I thought I'd get the hardened valve inserts. Why not go for a whole rebuild at this point?

In my estimation, at least 1/2 of all T engine rebuilds did not need to be done. The Model T is an incredibly forgiving machine which responds well to maintenance and repair. I purchased a mag ring that was shipped to me in a taped up pizza box. The ring arrived ok as well as some cheese and pepperoni stuck on the lid of the pizza box! I like Balance Beads. I don't know how they work, but a guy who works at a tire store told me they put them in truck tires regularly. I found on my speedster that they make a big difference when I drive over 35, the faster I go the smoother the ride right up to 60.

So I don't know if they would be recommended for a T that doesn't ride over 35....

I normally use a vibrating tooth brush but next time I'll try the air hose method. So I wonder why it wouldn't also work adding a bit of air to the bottle? Great...

My exhibition, Anatomy, opens the first week of April. These are photographs of model T Ford details that are metaphors for how our own bodies age and are rebuilt or replaced with donor parts. The original capture for these photographs was taken on wet collodion glass negatives.

I was recomended a company to weld a crack in my engine block. When he started welding he quickly found out that the steel was rusted thin. Apparently there was something sticky fluid inside the cooling channel that caused this. This is at the top of the engine block.

I have a question about my axle inner bearing sleeve; does it matter if the small button on the sleeve, that locks it into place, has been ground off? Otherwise, the sleeve is in great shape as are the other three but it just happens that someone ground off the locking button.

Run it you'll be OK these have a spring to them and inner sleeves are well lined
Little tack weld would be ok but over kill in my opinion
Outer sleeve I just get one with dimple lot more stress and pressure on it

I’ve seen ‘26/‘27 roadster bodies without the turtle and with 8” of the bottom of the body rusted away go for $800 at auction. I think a good cowl would probably sell on these classifieds for up to $500.
