My trusty 2003 Maroon Silverado Extended cab Z-71 Off Road with almost 200,000 miles failed NH inspection because of a little rust around the rear wheels, missing backing plates on the rear brakes, a check engine light, and a loose front ball joint.
Just a few little issues :o

Be careful with Carfax. Just because they don't say that a vehicle has been in an accident doesn't mean that it hasn't. I bought a car with a clean Carfax, but I soon discovered that the high-mount brake light didn't work. When I got into it, it was obvious that the car had been hit in the rear and repaired. The body work was fine, but the rear...

Mark those #'s are pretty good. I prefer to take the low compressionT engine comp test cold as it gives a better indication of cold starting conditions. Take the wet test and see if the #'s rise. It would indicate ring wear. As to a leak test: it might show leaking valves but the air would always leak past cold rings where as the wet test would...

FreighTer Jim » Wed Feb 06, 2019 10:29 am

Touring season is going to be here soon enough
If you trailer your Model T - here are some tips that minimize the risk of having it stolen .....
Coupler
The past few custom car hauler trailers I have had built
were equipped with 14K adjustable couplers.
0D7F6F3C-CC06-477C-A2B4-C07B08898914.jpeg
Bulldog adjustable couplers make it easier...
Last post
No .....
Bulldog hitch couplers are not readily available - not many trailers
utilize that type of coupler.
Even a tow truck with stinger would have no luck trying to secure
my slotted channel with chains ( either mine or theirs ) to try
and tow my trailer.
Anything is possible - being probable is an entirely separate matter.

Hi, I had a '24 TT with an iron Warford, I stopped driving about 3 years ago and my Son has it now. At first the Warford was extremely noisy in under. Robert, I checked the fitment on my gauge and found I used two modern fittings. They are both elbows with male threads, and female threads drilled into the side of the fitting, so there is no real bend to see. What the timing rod rotates is the plate where the points are attached.
Since the duration of the burning of the optimal fuel mixture has a fixed length of time - if you want any engine performance at all - the spark timing must be readily adjustable to begin the fuel burning earlier or later depending on engine load and rpm. Under heavy...

As long as the sleeve is not spinning on the driveshaft it should be ok. BUT! One overlooked thing is the area is where the bushing rides on at the other end. The shaft can be turned down and polished and a custom undersized bushing installed. Chances are that with the condition of that bearing at the pinion end, it will need attention.

A lot of my Model T thoughts center on trips I'd like to make. I imagine revisiting places I went decades ago, in a Model T this time, and driving a T to places I've never seen except in pictures. I intend to do as many of them as I can while I'm able to do it.

I removed the rear end and opened the housings to check to see if it had brass or Babbitt thrust washers.
It had brass, so now trying to reconnect the housings but I’ve a 1/4 gap between the housings. I’m thinking that the outside thrust washers have slipped down between the Hyatt bearing and were they are supposed to be. What is the proper...

I've spent the last two years, in my spare time, going through the mechanical systems on my beat up 24 Touring. After a long slog, I'm going to reinstall the rear end, torque tube combo that I've meticulously rebuilt with much time and effort.
It's the oilers on things like the spring shackles that have me wondering, in a quite ignorant newbie...
Last post
I'm with Steve on the brass or bronze bushings. If you have a brass T, be sure to install the shackles correctly. The upper oiler goes in the back so you can get oil in it easier.

What if we had a global calendar on this Forum that listed all the Model t events around the country in One place so anyone could see all events at a glance for the entire year?
Personally, I try and plan my year around events and it would be amazing if someone from each region could add and edit events in one place so everyone could see them....

I like it. Perhaps events could be listed in two columns, one in order by date and the other by state.

I found this Saturday Evening Post (Fall, 1971) cover while staying at the La Posada Hotel in Winslow, AZ, along Route 66. It might have been posted but before my time. It exhibits an interesting twist to our hobby.

Kurt, thanks for posting that. It makes for a very interesting point of view of the Model T saga as that illustration appeared over 47 years ago, when the 1923-ish (?) T in the magazine was about the same age. How many of us were the kids in the T, now looking like the old folks in the red convert ? (But still driving the T !!)

Ken,
I got a replacement motor for my 19 from Bill Thompson.
He should be able to help.
He lives in Sudbury and I believe he works at Clematis Machine shop in Waltham.
He last logged onto the old site on Dec 31 -
If you do a search on his name, town, and MTFCA you may be able to send him an email.

In getting ready for an upcoming rear axle/driveline rebuild I thought that I would take the time to fix a problem with the Stevens Drive Shaft Bushing Puller that I have. This is probably a problem that other that own this tool have as well. The pawls that actually pull the bushing do not work due to the broken/missing torsion spring....
Last post
DSC00478.JPG This is my bushing removing tool it weighs 3 pounds and when dropped from the length of the shaft exerts several hundred pounds of force and after about 6 drops the bushing was out.

Can someone who has 3 bolt Disteel wheels post a picture of the center? I have seen some with what looks like a riser or spacer under the acorn nuts and some with just the nuts. Also, does anyone have 1 (or 2) 23 Disteel 3 bolt clinchers that they will sell? Thank You
Last post
IMO, better to have that ring to provide clamping action all around the center, instead of just at the 3 lug spots.
The wheel center hub fit does a lot, but the lock ring is there for a reason. Also the acorn nut with lock washer would cut into the wheel, with the ring, the lock washer on the ring.

I sometimes ship long skinny parts in pvc pipe with threaded end caps. Very rigid packaging with no damage. Can be reused for the return shipment too.

Ok, I have no connection to this ad, it is on e-bay by Mark Fremiller from Model T Haven, but what the heck is this engine.
If it is a go fast engine someone surely has history on it as someone spent a lot of time engineering this thing,
So what is the story?????

This photo was taken near Baltic, SD at the 50th wedding anniversary of my great great grandfather's brother. Any thoughts on the make of the car that is sideways in the background? Leather license plate visible on a rear facing car indicates pre-1913 in South Dakota.
Thanks!!

Finally took the plunge and bought this TT. Owner said it was a '23 but engine and other features (I'm still in sponge mode on details) make it appear to be a '24. Any observations are welcome. Thanks for all the responses. I too noted that the frame mounts at the rear of the cab did not match up. Of course, on a 95 year old truck, its hard to tell what's original and what may be a 30-40 year old restoration. The truck is/was in West Texas which is kind to metal work with little rust occurring due to the dry climate so could explain the...

This is a RAJO I got some time ago and will use on a speedster. I think it is an early Model 30 but really do not know. It has just one intake port but no bump-out on the left side for the intake. The exhaust manifold connects to a normal Model T exhaust pipe.
Any ideas of the model or intended use (truck?).
