Thanks for the heads up, Dave. An example, very similar , was offered for sale about 20 minutes from my home. It took them a couple years to sell, but they only rolled it out on the occasional weekend. It would be nice to know where it ended up, and I hope it ends up on the road again. This local one was very similar, even having those small...

While working on the speedster engine, I ran into a part I do not remember seeing before. I found some brass magneto magnet spools that were mixed in with the aluminum spools. I do not remember seeing any brass spools before, so I curious what years they were used. I found enough NOS aluminum spools to use as oil slingers on the speedster...

Can someone shed some light on what this is? eBay item number:233121661169 Never seen anything like it and it appears to be a mfg thing. It sure does not appear to be a diesel with spark plugs, mag and carbs.
Last post
I had a 1965 2-cycle Sears Allstate motorcycle with two cylinders and one spark plug. It was a V-twin with the smaller rear cylinder used for intake and compression. The fuel charge moved through a passage to the larger front cylinder for power and exhaust strokes. The front had a spark plug and was connected to the exhaust pipe.

As we discussed on page twenty-four, the gyramic intofluxer inside your magneto was calibrated for 25.4 at the factory. If we simply move the factory 1 foot 3 inches to the South South West we will notice no extensive reaction. Per KD's notes on 7/23/32.

Maybe this has been discussed before, forgive me if it has. So I'm in need of 6 body brackets for a 1912. These are the brackets that mount to the body that in turn mount to the frame brackets to bolt the body to the frame. Langs sells the brackets but the holes are round and not square. What have you done to mate the bracket to the body? Have you...
Last post
The round hole brackets are correct for a 1912. The early bodies have an exposed stringer at the bottom of the body, that mounts sideways to the brackets in question. The carriage (or step) bolts mount from the outside of the stringer, thru the stringer, with the square shank under the head, buried into the wood. The round shank and threaded end...

There were several discussions ab out this in the past on the forum, if you get real bored Google MTFCA Valve Adjustment. One of the key tips I gathered from that in the past was from Frank Harris:
The adjustable lifter has a 1/4 28 thread and that gives you a thousandth of an inch travel for every 10 degrees wrench rotation. Take the vavle...

I just finished rebuilding my hog's head this evening. Looks nice.....new parts inside, auxiliary oiler fixture on and everything painted. I used the O ring trick on the pedal shafts also, so leaks should be minimal. Scott, the pedal cams are all correctly installed, although to be honest your comment about little to no slop in the cam surfaces has me wondering. I does take a bit of forward motion before the pedals cam outward....but that amount of slop is very uniform.

This post goes with the one on the exhaust nut wrench.
One reason the exhaust nut gets loose is because someone uses a clamp on the front end of the muffler where the pipe attaches. It is best to leave it without a clamp so that the pipe is free to rotate or move in and out of the muffler as the car vibrates and twists when driving. A clamp under...
Last post
The cast end mufflers were meant to be a sliding fit, however the pressed steel end type never was. The original pipe was one piece with the muffler and the mounting hanger on the rear of it was the flex part. You can install the pressed end muffler without a clamp as there should be enough exhaust pipe tube inserted to work without a lot of...

Okay, I would like to understand this or either something is wrong with my low speed band and its adjustment. The clutch should be disengaged just after you press the pedal down and the low band should be be tight on the low drum when the pedal is at 1 to 1-1/2 inches above the floor.

Its been awhile since I rebuilt a T engine. The current main bearing shims appeared to be made wrong to me. But when I looked in the original 1928 parts catalog, the shims are like the current repros. I remember the shims I used to use, had a small ear on the inside of the shim, that sat between the babbitt at the ends of the bearing. I thought...
Last post
You can cut the A rear main shim and use it in a T engine as well. It will be a little shorter than a T rear main shim as the A rear main is 3 long from thrust to thrust, but that won't hurt anything.

I agree with Bob on not turning them backwards, plus you want to keep them cutting while rotating. I've tried to determine what the last name on this parts book is for a few years. Maybe someone has an idea. It looks like O. J. Hos______? Below (if I can load them) are a few pics. Also included is a link to the Model K parts book, with the front cover and name.
Thank you for any suggestions,
Rob

Ted, you got it! Thank you.
Onon J. Hoshaw was born in 1890, and worked for a Ford dealer(s) in the Kansas City and Salina KS. area. He would have been 17 years old when the 1907 K (manual) came out. Now the question is, did he or his family own a Model K? Or did he pick up an old manual as a Ford employee at some point. The state of Kansas was...

Today my 1912/13 Maxwell went to its new home in Wisconsin. It sat in my back yard for 25+ years waiting for me to retire and have time to restore it. Was never going to happen with me.
I listed it on the horseless carriage site last summer with a substantial price reduction and sold it to a fine young man who will restore it correctly. He is a...

I rebuilt the carburetor on the Jack Benny Maxwell a couple years ago. It had a very interesting idle fuel supply/adjustment that had been added in the 50's to get it to run better. I made a new system based on that design and have since made two more for similar carbs.
It was never actually owned by Benny, the TV station leased it from the owner...

Thanks for posting the link Rod. That's what I kinda feel like every time I get behind the wheel of the T, there is nothing to compare with that feeling. The more cars involved just enhance the feeling. Now if the weather would just behave maybe I could get a fix. Jim

Need help with a pin size.........

I'm faced with having to remove both the pedal and cam on my low speed shaft, then replace the shaft with a new one. I attacked the cam pin first, grinding down the head and attempted to heat, then drive the pin out......it won't budge, so it looks like drilling it out is the only solution. So, what size are these pins? 3/16 or some decimal size?...
Last post
George, that's why I go up in drill sizes in small increments. If you check each hole you can keep track of the drill opening up the side of the pin, and stop before damage is done. I learned this trick by doing as you did, except i was working on a handbrake lever and cross shaft.

I've enjoyed the great photos of the 09 tourings posted recently. But I've noticed that all of the touring cars appear to be painted dark green.
In fact when I did a Google search for original 1909 Model T Ford photos and wasn't able to find one photo that looked like the car was painted red. I understand the photos are black and white, but it...

No, not that kind of good time!
The Lady Michelle and I are in central Florida for a few days — she's off to Disney World on Wednesday and I'll be at loose ends.
I'm thinking of driving up to Ocala for the Don Garlits museum, but am looking for additional/alternate suggestions... other collections, tire-kicking with kindred souls, off-beat auto...

Chris : There is a fairly good flea market just North of Webster Florida starting next Friday (Google ; Sumter Extravaganza). Not Hershey or Charlotte, but I usually find some goodies there every year. A better on starts Feb 14th at Zephyrhills if you're here that long. Cheers : Bruce

I am looking for a MTFCA or MTFCI Magazine cover that depicts this 1913 Speedster. I don't know what year it was on, but the car was completed in 2004, probably some issue between then and 2012? I just purchased the car and am trying to build a file with as much history as possible.
I will compensate anyone with that magazine who is willing to...

Stop looking, I found a nearly new copy in my own collection. Who knew?
it seems that one of the cars I bought some time ago came with a large collection of T magazines, on the off chance that the one I was looking for might be inthe stack, I dug them out and EUREKA!! there it was.
Thank for looking guys

Interesting are the paint drips on the head and block.
I believe my T to have original paint and it has all sorts of drips in the old finish if you know where to look. However, seeing drips in engine paint is a first for me. (assuming this to be the original paint on the engine in this photo)

Bob Ore, owner of Qual Krom in Erie, PA, runs Qual Krom as part of his total restoration facility; so, as a restorer, he is particularly critical of details important to the restorer. He's done a lot of copper and nickel plating for me over the 30+ years that I've dealt with him. He's usually on the job at 3:00 AM 6 days a week!

I do NOT want to remove the hogshead on my 26 Coupe unless absolutely necessary to make a repair. I am trying to replace my clutch pedal shaft, the clutch pedal support cam, and the slow speed notch. I know I have to get the pin out of the slow speed notch to remove the shaft, but even though I haven't accomplished that yet or even tried, that is...

This was the original question:
“The QUESTION is: With the detachable ear off of the low speed band, obviously the spring and low band adjusting screw too, is there room enough for the bolt that holds the clutch pedal support cam onto the hogshead to clear the slow speed drum to get that bolt all the way out to then put it back in your new clutch...
