Were you using a shim to take up for wear in the ball/retaining ring? Too much shim can lock up the ball joint and may cause this.

Opened that pretty Ford marked envelope with the shaft inside, slid the pedal on the shaft only to find a very loose fit. The new shaft is .62375. The old shaft is .62575. That 2 thousands sure messed up my day. I’d post a picture, but I’m not that smart.

I'll bet that ultimately, you'll want to go with an oversize shaft and ream the hog's head. If you are replacing a shaft, it is because it's worn...the hog's head will be, too. I just finished a job with an oversized shaft...I believe they are made from 16mm rod (.6299). I turned down the pedal area to fit the old pedal and turned down the...

Have been looking at a car which was born on August 12, 1926. From everything I am reading 1927 production was from August 1926 to May 26, 1927. Does that make this car an early 1927 model year. Owner says it's a 1926??

I spent 3 hours yesterday going over the car. The first thing I did was to pull the floorboards and looked at the frame to see if It was a matching numbers car and it was. According to Bruce's book it was born on August 12th 1926. So now I'm satisfied it's an early 1927. Thanks for the help.

The radiator badge on my 1924 Citroen is soldered in place and must be removed to nickel plate the shell. I'm afraid to re-solder the restored badge on the re-plated shell. Any suggestions? A badge restoration guy says to use silicone adhesive.

I’m in process of putting a new wood kit in a 24 Fordor body. Overall it’s coming along well. The old roof wood was in pretty bad shape and not really measurable the way the other parts were. I need the outside width dimensions of the roof. Front back and middle, as that will get me an idea if I’m in the ball park. Thanks!

Has anyone seen any motors with similar holes in the cylinder wall? The Ford Special race at The Henry Ford, as well as our motor, have holes in the side of the cylinder wall, on the non exhaust side. THF racer motor has heavy steel rails, and a sliding slide with four corresponding holes:

I spent the morning with my brother-in-law helping him to take the motor out of his 1925 tourer. This was necessary because he needed to do a valve grind and two head bolts had broken off, one being right at the back!

We got all the usual stuff out of the way ready to do the lift but there was no way the ears on the pan could slide forward along...

My primitive way of removing a rear wheel hub flange did the trick this morning.
Posted this problem several days back, with great suggestions.
Since I don't have a blow torch, I heated the assembly in a bucket with a fire for about 20 minutes. Next a nice cool down with the hose, followed by several whacks with the mallet.
Mission: accomplished.

Threaded rod will give you the same results as a puller. To help prevent bending of the flange use in all holes. best to use a hydraulic press. Heat will work if you are comfortable with it.

I would like to see replacement fuel bowls for Holley G & earlier carbs. I know some of the crafty people have done some very nice repairs to some of the cracked ones, but most of us do not have the talent, patience or equipment to make an effective repair. I have seen an older partially restored 1910 Canadian RHD, which had the tail light on the left, but the rear panel may have been replaced.

Thanks Guys, I did notice that when I took the (in this case) nuts loose, there was hardly any resistance. I did re-torque the head once but after this I will re-torque it a few more times. Does this odd looking bumper make the car look taller in front or is it just my eyes playing tricks on me? Look at the clearance between the tires and the front fenders. Or is it just the angle of the picture?

What Richard E says is quite true. And, there is one other thing. Looking closely at the front axle, that car has the tower spring shock absorbers on it. Some of those (including this set) hold the front spring about two inches higher than the standard issue Ford perches.

Well here in SUNNY California we were blessed to be advised by the weather man that we may a dusting of snow- well last night

First off I'm new to Model Ts. Totally ignorant. I have the remains of a roadster body that I was told is a 23. The firewall is missing and in trying to do some research I find two width firewalls. One 23 and three eights wide and one 28 wide. When I measure across the body opening I get 27 inches. How does this work? Thanks.

Even a tow truck with stinger would have no luck trying to secure
my slotted channel with chains ( either mine or theirs ) to try
and tow my trailer.

Anything is possible - being probable is an entirely separate matter.

Hi Folks,
This is my first forum post. My name is Brian and I just imported a beautiful 1913 model T into the UK.

The number on the engine plate is 261644 which fits in with the age for May 1913, but unfortunately when I tried to register the car in the UK, our highways department called DVLA, sent out an inspector to see if the car was real....

Found this today in an out of the way antique shop

This picture is from the 1912 Toronto Auto Show as found today in the Toronto archives. It's labelled as demonstrating the electric start! I'm not familiar with aftermarket starters from back then but that doesn't look to me like that's what it is. Anybody know?

I am planning on wrapping up my rear axle adventure tonight, but I have one last question (no guarantees on it being the last one :lol: ) . Is the steel washer that goes in between the outer hyatt bearing and the outer felt seals supposed to go inside the axle housing tube or rest on the outside edge? The new ones I ordered from Lang's don't quite...

One thing to note in the video - the washers for the radius rods go between the plain nuts and the back side of the driveshaft flange, not under the front castle nuts. :)

I am a new T owner and just purchased a 13 Touring car the person i bought it from used a 12 volt battery for cold weather starts. Should I use a 6 volt or 12 volt to fire the coils for cold starts? Would the 12 volt damage them?

just so you know...that's perfectly normal. The thermosyphon system will not tolerate a whole lot of stationary idling. So long as you can drive and climb hills without overheating, you're cooling system is operating as designed and is fine.

I have brought back one Model T from the dead and have three others that I am working on. Many in our club have done the same. What say you. With us doing that, does it make the values go down or go up ? I know that it made the value of mine to go up. To me it is more about the people I meet and to enjoy some of the usta life.

I picked up a bucket of old tools cheap at a garage sale, and this tool was in the bucket, does anybody know what it is?

Originally, I thought it was some kind of nut splitter, but the end of the plunger has a triangular cross section, not a wedge like a nut splitter would have.

I just found out about this. T thought I would share this with ya'll.
At the Grand Gulf Military Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi, is a one-man submarine that was powered by a Model T Ford Engine and used during the early prohibition period to bootleg whiskey and rum from Davis Island to Vicksburg, Mississippi.

At least one of our local dealers has the Motorcraft SP-405 spark plugs in stock that fit T's. I only know that because I have a part time job that counts dealer inventories for their record keeping and seen them there on the shelf.

The Cooke City Highway (Highway 212)provides a great Model T route from Billings to Yellowstone and you can proceed to Yellowstone or turn off of that and go toward Cody, WY on the Sunlight Basin Road (Highway 296). The Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody is a great stop. Both roads are very scenic but you can encounter rain and snow anytime of the year....

I need to replace the tires on my 1921 Coupe as they are a bit hard and at least 32 years old. My intention with this car is that it be a reasonable runner not a show car but if I'm fixing something to upgrade it along the way.

John, I have been sorting and studying. The previous owner found and shipped the missing pitman arm, BUT, the USPS lost it somewhere in California. I have four coils being rebuilt. When the weather gets warmer I will move it to my polebarn where I will have more room. I want to take the body back off the frame to tidy up a few items. Art
