I need to replace the tires on my 1921 Coupe as they are a bit hard and at least 32 years old. My intention with this car is that it be a reasonable runner not a show car but if I'm fixing something to upgrade it along the way.
The demountable rims were painted silver when the car was restored in the mid 1980's. If I'm replacing the tires I should...

Are valve seals recommended when rebuilding the Model T engine?
Last post
My original post/question was in connection to a rebuild I'm having done on my 1921. Unfortunately the machinist I'm using has no experience with Model T's and was encouraging the use of valve seals. So I searched the older forum postings for a consensus on the topic and even visited the California Auto Museum in Sacramento hoping for an answer...

John, I have been sorting and studying. The previous owner found and shipped the missing pitman arm, BUT, the USPS lost it somewhere in California. I have four coils being rebuilt. When the weather gets warmer I will move it to my polebarn where I will have more room. I want to take the body back off the frame to tidy up a few items. Art

Robert, I checked the fitment on my gauge and found I used two modern fittings. How did they keep the forward-most rod bearings from dying due to lack of lubrication while they constantly drove around with the nose in the air like that?
And, for that matter, how did they keep fuel flowing?

What the timing rod rotates is the plate where the points are attached.
Since the duration of the burning of the optimal fuel mixture has a fixed length of time - if you want any engine performance at all - the spark timing must be readily adjustable to begin the fuel burning earlier or later depending on engine load and rpm. Under heavy...

As long as the sleeve is not spinning on the driveshaft it should be ok. BUT! One overlooked thing is the area is where the bushing rides on at the other end. The shaft can be turned down and polished and a custom undersized bushing installed. Chances are that with the condition of that bearing at the pinion end, it will need attention.

I have seen some restoration that were just too good I think the original plates were made to be adequate and not works of art. It is hard to make something less than perfect. I saw a restored T that had baked black enamel with brilliant chrome and it was just too good the builder also commented that it was somewhat over done. It may have been ok...

oK, I have discovered water/antifreeze in the oil and oil in the radiator, this on an engine with a Rajo head installed as well as a pressurized oil system.
I'm not real familiar with this Rajo head, is this the result of a head gasket leak or something worse? bummer!!!

I think I have fond the problem, :!: The previous owner speculated that an existing radiator leak might be traveling down the block and pan, thus ending up on the drain pipe and might be what I was seeing and concluding that it was a leaking drain plug. Made sense, so I started investigating. I cleaned down the whole engine, ran her up to...

It's the oilers on things like the spring shackles that have me wondering, in a quite ignorant newbie...

I'm with Steve on the brass or bronze bushings. If you have a brass T, be sure to install the shackles correctly. The upper oiler goes in the back so you can get oil in it easier.

IMO, better to have that ring to provide clamping action all around the center, instead of just at the 3 lug spots.
The wheel center hub fit does a lot, but the lock ring is there for a reason. Also the acorn nut with lock washer would cut into the wheel, with the ring, the lock washer on the ring.

I had a 1965 2-cycle Sears Allstate motorcycle with two cylinders and one spark plug. It was a V-twin with the smaller rear cylinder used for intake and compression. Nonpareil Horn identification
by
tntevans » Tue Feb 05, 2019 2:56 pm
My grandfather had this Nonpareil brass horn and said it was for a Model T. I don't know if it an original equipment item or an aftermarket part. In searching various places, I can't locate any mounting bracket that looks similar. I know some of these bulb horns mounted in the engine area, but this one appears to be a driver-side door mount? Would...

We have a 26 Babcock bodied T Estate Car and looking for more information. We know the car was built in late May and shipped to Babcock arriving in latter June. It was shipped with 5 other T chassis to be built on an as needed basis. We are looking for any reference materials, sales info, locations of more or drawings especially showing the rear...

Thanks Dan, I have combed through that site already. Looking for some more specific info like on production numbers at maybe if there are any documented Ford Estate Cars left.

I'm sure the information about dating Ruckstells based on the serial number has been published somewhere, but I was just wondering where to look. I have a Hall Scott Ruckstell I just finished installing in my 1915 and was curious about the year it was made. It's number A 15965 which I assume means it was the 15,965th one made, but I don't know...

I know this topic has been brought up many times before but it hasn't really been explained in its entirety. Here's a link to my Facebook post where I showed everything from start to finish. The charger was relatively inexpensive to build and took the magnets from almost nothing to comfortably holding the weight of a cast piston.

Bob, It works with the magneto assembled. Here is a pirture. THen to test the magnet we tipped the engine on it's side, via the engine stand and placed the 3# weight on it. Mike

Nice find Adrian. These things bounce around the internet and we often don't know where they came from.
We aren't all bikers. I bought this in 1973 for $75. I work on it from time to time and it is fun but I let Ts and other projects interrupt it. It has been enjoyable making the tanks, caps, shifter and pedals, but after 46 years I may not finish...

I’m replacing my old two piece valves with modern stainless valves. They are original standard .312 valves. I measured the guides at varying places and it’s a pretty consistent .317. Should I stick with the standard size, or ream .010 over and get the 10 over size valves?
The 1916 engine appears to Have very little wear. Standard size bore with...

Early Body Bracket to frame bracket

by
Tbird » Mon Feb 04, 2019 12:42 pm
First post
Maybe this has been discussed before, forgive me if it has. So I'm in need of 6 body brackets for a 1912. These are the brackets that mount to the body that in turn mount to the frame brackets to bolt the body to the frame. Langs sells the brackets but the holes are round and not square. What have you done to mate the bracket to the body? Have you...
Last post
The round hole brackets are correct for a 1912. The early bodies have an exposed stringer at the bottom of the body, that mounts sideways to the brackets in question. The carriage (or step) bolts mount from the outside of the stringer, thru the stringer, with the square shank under the head, buried into the wood. The round shank and threaded end...

I'm trying to find the height dimension from the top of the crank handle (where it goes into the motor in front) to the top of the radiator shell (not including the filler neck) for the 1915-16, 1917-23, and 1924-25 radiators.
I would appreciate it if those who have those year radiators could give me some actual measurements off of your cars....

I am looking to make some magnet shipping/storage boxes and was wondering if anyone might have any photos of ones that are purportedly original Ford pieces. I had found a post from a few years ago where James Golden had posted about an original Ford piece and he listed the dimensions (16 x 16 with a 3/8 bottom), but no picture. If anyone would...

Does anyone have a guess what equivalent SAE grade the bolts used in the Model T would have? I'm asking so I'll have an approximate idea of the proper torque to use. Yeah, I know, Don't need no stinkin' torque. Humor me if you can.

Serious PayPal scam

Just saw this on the news 5 minutes ago. Since many of us use PayPal to buy and sell I wanted to pass this along. We all know we get a confirmation from P.P..when we sell and get our money. Now the scammers have devised an extremely convincing email saying pmt was in your account but first the money isn't in your account and second they send this...

A lot of people probably already know about this but for those that don't there is a website where you can either upload a photo or paste a URL and it will tell you if it has come across the photo on the world wide web.
I'ts easy to use and is free.

Just recently Iv noticed a problem with my steering shaft. When I turn it, it clicks before catching the pitman arm. The pitman arm is tight and I see no moment when I turn the wheel back and forth before the shaft clicks like its got a sheared pin somewhere. Here is a short video of the sound.

Yep, if ya watch real close it is the Irwin 7CR Vise Grip doing the clicking.
On my Crappy 24 the column shifts at the dash a bit and clunks but that's different. :)
