Removal of old silicone used used a gasket
by
Dennis_Brown » Sat Feb 23, 2019 10:40 pm
When you separate parts that have silicone used as a gasket there is always a film left.Spray the surface with brake clean and it will loosen up and you can scrape it off. I am not a purist but really helps seal things, especially in an emergency but we all know Model T,s never brake down on the road away from home.

I have always used a piece of 3/8 pipe with a round steel rod that slips inside. Drilled a hole in the side of the pipe and welded a nut on the outside so I could lock the rod inside it when I expanded it between the front inside of the tires on the sidewall. Place it about 1/2 way up the tires, lock it in place and then place it inside the tires...

I would like to put Rocky Mountain Brakes on my 23 coupe. Who's should I buy?
Last post
I'm very biased on this subject. I prefer the genuine item made in the '20s, mainly because of the simplicity and the ease of operation. There are no holes to drill or special tools to install them, and they work backing up too. There are no rods, just a simple pulley/equalizer for braking with a cable.

Why did you take it down? Was the clutch mis-operating? If it was working OK you could just put it back together and leave it as is. If it was not working well, you must then find out why. normally the clutch disk which fits the inside of the brake drum is toward that plate and the plate turns with that last disk, so no moving parts except the...

The transmission book states to replace the triple gear pins if they have 0.005 wear. The pins measured 0.677, 0.677, and 0.675.
What is your thought on the 0.675 pin. Replace or keep? If I replace should all 3 be replaced to have the same OD for new bushing reaming .

The slide hammer with the hook attachment works the best. After straightening the spokes, check alignment and then do what Norm has said. If the wheels need to be refinished, you can use heat to shrink the spokes needing tightened. The best way to learn how to straighten a wheel is to practice on a bicycle wheel using a spoke wrench to true it....

After going to a couple of upholstery shops yesterday with my 26 Coupe bench seat to get recovered, I was shocked by the estimates they were giving me, so after unsuccessful internet searching this morning, I have come to the experts that hopefully can inform me of possibly where to buy a quality slip cover for my car? Mr. Myers,
MUCH Thanks for your reply post!!! Although I am sure Classtique makes beautiful seat covers, here again $500 plus is NOT in my budget for a seat cover! Peter and the folks at Fawcett Restoration get the racer going. The cylinder side ports are open, and that makes cranking a little easier. Peter also drove the car a bit, and said it's fast. Click on the link below to see the start:

I am wondering if you need to add a vent to the rear axle tube when going to a modern pinion bearing setup, they say that one or more of the bearings are sealed and I am thinking that I need to add a vent. This could be a dangerous move but what do you think?

Last post
I had a similar experience as Roy Stone. I saw a small bubble as I was removing the plug. Drilled the plug and installed a vent line that runs up to the frame.
I also had thought of a vacum line when a rear axle seal started to leak but redoing the seal and lowering the fluid level has resolved that problem.

I've done it without help in a similar way of that described by Steve Jelf, however, I used a ratchet strap to support the drive shaft tube. The ratchet gives you an easy way to adjust height, and enough flexibility in case you need to sort of wiggle things into place.

I've read other posts on this forum that you should lay the pin over an open vice with pin ends supported. Then strike the center of the pin to give it a slight bend. That helps hold the joint rigidly. I have not don't that yet but I will when weather permits.

Allan, The rod and cap mate up perfectly . I set my jig for 1.490 because if the rod bolt is not perfectly perpendicular to the mating surface of the rod and cap it changes the thrust thickness. Ford specks are 1.480-1.490

Is that a spittoon or ashtray on the dash

The Model T Touring/Pickup in the movie Giant has some sort of receptacle on the dash.
It looks like a spittoon. Or it could be an ashtray. Looks like it swivels to empty it over the side. You can see the top half of it in the closeup, and it looks like it's tilted over in the wide shot.
Does anyone know what it is?

I wonder what the percentage of 1926's were that had 30X3 1/2's? There are a lot of them around. I guess a lot of people chose not to go to the new style 21 wheels?

Hello:
I am working on a 1927 coupe and have the windshield and closed body glass specifications & sizes manual but it does not say anything about the glass thickness. I was wondering if anyone could provide the thickness.
Thanks Steve

I was careless in storing my windshield glass when I bought my 25 from Kim Dobbins in California
and hauled it back to Tucson. The lower panel was broken when I arrived home.
I took the broken piece to a glass shop and they made a replacement using safety glass.
It has developed a crack and is either to large or to thick. when it warms up a...

There was a fellow here in the Twin Cities that had a 1923 touring disguised as a 1915.
It was a very sharp looking car:
- brass radiator
- 1915-16 hood and hood former
- 1914 front fenders (no bills on the front)
- 1914 rear fenders (the 1914 front and rear fenders along with the 1923 body, slant windshield and one-man top in the down position...

There was some questions last year about what spare parts should be carried in your T.
I recently bought a Model T owned by the same man since 1947, so he was experienced.
This inventory sheet was found in the car, along with all these spare parts that he considered essential.

Rainwise Weather center display

OT - Rainwise weather center. Does anyone out there in Model T land (that makes it Model T related) happen to own a Rainwise MK III weather center? Mine recently bellied up and I’ve bought a new one. Since the new array on the roof is not compatible with my old display I've ended up with an extra display that I’m pretty sure was not part of the...

I believe the car next to the m/c and the car facing it are 1912 Cadillacs. Both have flat wood dash and electric side lamps.

The more I drive My 21 Touring after installing the Apco brace I can imagine back in the day the column would get looser after a fairly short time. I installed a new wood firewall when I restored the car and the column was pretty rigid but after I installed the Apco brace it just seemed better with the extra support.

We have a problem of starting the engine, when the engine is cold. With a warm engine, there is no starting problem. The ambient temperature on our Indian city is around 30 degrees Celsius (about 85 degrees Fahrenheit). Can anyone advised where the problem is.

I've had success cold starting by simply giving it about 2 priming revolutions. With the ignition switch off, pull the choke and turn it over twice. Then release the choke, turn on the ignition switch and see if it will start easier.

Firewall to windshield brackets

Good morning, I have a 1911 touring that has firewall to windshield brackets that are steel. There is light surface rust, and the firewall is weathered so it looks original.
Is this correct? From photos of restored cars, they all look brass. Were they originally brass plated?
Any info appreciated, Mike
